Chapter 14: The Hero’s Bureau and Shadowed Secret

Adrian Blake looked the same as usual.

On the outside, he was still gentle and affectionate.

The slightly opened collar of his suffocatingly neat uniform was the only part unbuttoned.

However, Sena could tell.

That he was holding something back.

In any case, between partners sharing a bed, whether they liked it or not, they came to know the other person.

Sena noticed the veins standing out on his neck.

His reddened neck and faintly furrowed face resembled the expression of holding back an ejaculation.

Was he very angry?

Sena thought so, then bit her lip tightly and averted her eyes.

I did nothing wrong.

No, actually, if it was wrong, there were quite a few points that came to mind…

Sena gnawed on her lips anxiously.

Then, when only silence continued even after a long while, she raised her head stealthily.

Adrian Blake was faintly smiling.

The late afternoon sunlight broke into pieces over his faded hair.

He folded his picture-perfect long eyes and smiled.

Over his shoulder, Colt was seen shaking his head side to side as if fed up.

“Sena, you are looking at me only now.”

Adrian just said that.

It was an attitude hard to see as someone who had mobilized all his colleagues to catch a runaway woman.

There was not a single question asking why she ran away.

Adrian did not say things like how much he had worried about her, or how angry he was because of her.

He merely leaned his upper body down and brought his forehead against Sena’s.

“Sena, are you all done resting?”

Resting.

Sena bit her lip.

Her escape drama, though it ended in merely five or six hours of course, was not an incident that could be settled so easily.

Seeing him reach out his hand with a tone that it was nothing special, a deep sense of helplessness wrapped around her entire body.

Would it be possible to escape from the grasp of Adrian Blake?

“If you are all done resting, let’s go back now. Because I wasn’t having fun.”

Adrian smiled.

It was an unreserved attitude.

It was to the extent that it seemed as if she had never run away.

However, Sena felt that he was not smiling sincerely.

So she felt frightened all of a sudden.

Sena shrank back step by step.

However, every time she took one step backward, Adrian came two steps closer.

Striding closer, Adrian stroked the face of Sena who was looking away from him once.

“Why are you so frozen, making my heart ache.”

He stared blankly at her ankle exposed beneath the folded slacks.

Her right ankle, which had not received any treatment, was swollen messily.

The next moment, Sena gasped in surprise.

“Aah!”

As her center of gravity was not maintained, a scream popped out on its own.

Adrian was holding her up in his arms.

What kind of posture is this for a fully grown adult?

Sena covered her face, which had turned bright red from embarrassment, with both hands.

The investigators spread out all over the port lounge were looking this way.

Rather, if she were piggybacked, or carried like a princess, it might have been less embarrassing.

However, Adrian was carrying Sena over his shoulder like he was transporting a sack of grain rather than a person.

“Senior! You found her.”

Just in time, Colt approached toward them.

He raised one hand to Adrian and greeted him warmly.

“Did your conversation with the Deputy Director finish well?”

“Yes, it finished well.”

Adrian Blake passed Colt while answering half-heartedly for anyone to see.

He lightly pushed away Colt who was clinging to him and adjusted his hold on Sena.

“Senior, can’t you see me?”

Adrian cleanly ignored Colt, who was circling around like a puppy, and spoke to Sena.

“Sena.”

“……”

“Sena?”

“Yes.”

Sena answered reluctantly.

This crafty and quick-witted husband seemed to have already learned the fact that Sena did not treat him recklessly in places where there were eyes watching.

It was then that an unexpected question flew in.

“Does it make you feel a bit better since you aren’t looking at my face?”

If you know that, don’t do things like this.

Sena scraped together what little patience remained like crumbs and held back her talking back.

Colt and other investigators were still watching this way.

In the midst of that, if she showed herself grumbling to Adrian Blake, it would be really troublesome.

Selena Han had to be the victim of a sudden confession to the very end.

“Senior, is this woman really that woman?”

Although the first impression already seemed to be ruined…

Colt did not seem to like Selena Han as the partner of his respected senior.

Exposing what that senior had done was Sena’s honest wish, but…

Actually, Colt seemed to know what had happened between the two people.

“Hey, Senior.”

Colt persistently followed beside Adrian, who was walking squarely across the port.

The two investigators and one woman being carried were extremely eye-catching, so Sena desperately covered her face to avoid the gazes focusing this way again.

It felt as though portrait rights had already vanished, but she wanted to protect human dignity.

“Senior, hey, well.”

Colt, who had followed flippantly, hesitated uncharacteristically.

He had an anxious face.

Adrian softly cut him off.

“Didn’t you learn how to speak at the Academy?”

It was a calm but low voice with a locked end.

Sena somehow came to feel on edge.

Veins were still standing out on the neck of Adrian, whose back of the head was the only thing visible as he carried her over his shoulder.

As if holding something down tightly, as if it would burst if things went wrong.

However, Colt only wore a tearful face even when Adrian snapped at him.

“No, well, that is…”

“That is?”

“How do I ask indirectly what happened while contact was lost!”

Colt blurted out rapidly without even taking a breath, then realized the answer to his question and his entire face turned bright red.

Soon his face was stained dark reddish-black.

Sena realized the fact that Adrian had stopped his steps.

Barely half a day ago, they were a pair who had been rolling around in bed.

There was no adult here who failed to understand the intent of the question.

A suffocating silence settled between the three people.

Adrian let out a hollow laugh as if baffled, then said flatly.

“Didn’t you say that a woman’s anger is resolved if you do well?”

“No, you…!”

It was an answer without a single object, but Colt amazingly understood Adrian’s response.

Colt, whose face had flared up bright red, massaged the back of his neck.

Slowly understanding the situation and avoiding Sena’s gaze, which was glaring at him fiercely.

“Was that a joke, or would I have said it seriously?”

Adrian Blake tilted his head sideways at Colt’s frustration-laden words.

“A joke?”

“So, um, yes, that’s right.”

“Why do you make such a joke?”

“You might not care, Senior… but originally, the creature called a man sometimes… yes…”

At a loss for words, Colt tore at his hair for no reason, then wiped his dry face, and with a despairing face looked back and forth between Selena Han, whom he disliked, despised, and was jealous of, and Adrian Blake, whom he liked, considered a role model, and trusted.

So those people…

The two of them?

The b*tch of Oscar Tribune, Selena Han, and the hero of the Federation, Adrian Blake?

They hit it off?

Really?

Colt suffered inside cognitive dissonance.

He slowly backstepped away from the two people while shuffling his feet as if tap dancing, then barely recalled one fact he had forgotten.

“Anyway, by the way, that… what is it, hey, but isn’t your wife caught while running away?”

Adrian’s face grew noticeably frosty.

Colt, who was blabbering something, quickly fled the spot.

The next moment, a small lightning bolt struck down on the spot where he had been standing.

Kagagagak!

The lightning bolt flashed in the blink of an eye and scraped up the marble floor of the port.

Colt froze completely and only blinked his eyes.

If he had been slightly slower in dodging by a hair’s breadth, he would have become a roasted investigator.

Even if Adrian Blake wasn’t going to kill him, he intended to make him retire.

Colt raised both hands with an expression as if he had chewed an astringent persimmon.

It was a virtual declaration of surrender.

“…Ah, as a fan myself, I don’t really want to know the hero’s private life.”

Please shut up.

Sena prayed in her heart like that.

That investigator named Colt was ruthlessly poking at Adrian Blake, who did not know when he might burst.

And Adrian granted Sena’s wish.

“Return to the Special Bureau on your own.”

“Pardon? No, Senior, wait a moment. How far is it from there to here, this is too much—”

The sorrowful cry was cut off abruptly.

And the next moment, warm air rushed against Sena’s cheek.

Sena opened her two eyes wide upon seeing the scenery unfolding before her eyes.

The place Adrian had brought Sena to was a room decorated mainly with neat white and light solid wood.

Daily necessities or small household goods were barely visible.

The only part in the desolate room that gave off a human smell was a single wall where newspapers were messily scrapped.

The wall was covered by a translucent curtain.

Sena suppressed the desire to pick it apart thoroughly.

The few small glass windows were completely blocked with pure white copy paper.

Seeing that, Sena recognized where this place was.

“It’s my office, Sena.”

This place was Adrian Blake’s office located in the main building of the Special Bureau.

The reason why copy paper was attached to all the windows was simple.

Because after Sena had camped out for several days to take photos of Adrian Blake and the Director meeting in secret, a directive was created in the Special Bureau to block the windows.

Feeling guilty on her own, Sena avoided Adrian’s gaze.
