Chapter 11: Peace Treaty on the Bed (10)

Euclid.

As soon as that word was mentioned, the shadows in the interrogation room deepened, the sunlight streaming through the doorway grew hazy, and the wind lost its warm temperature, turning cold.

The shadow cast behind Adrian seemed to open a pitch-black mouth and grin.

Colt swallowed hard, trying his best not to look at Adrian’s face.

The Special Bureau classified villains into three major categories: [Safe], [Protected], and [Observed].

[Safe] and [Protected] were literally secure levels under the Bureau’s surveillance and management.

However, [Observed] was different.

[Observed] was the precise hazard classification that proved the Special Bureau’s very reason for existing.

Observing entities capable of inflicting harm on human society to maintain world peace.

That was precisely the real purpose behind the establishment of the Special Bureau.

The [Observed] level was further divided into three tiers: [Euclid], [Keter], and the unnamed [□□□□].

And Adrian belonged to the first tier of [Observed], where the vast majority of villains resided: [Euclid].

‘A villain who could not be completely and safely isolated from human society.’

Countless villains worked for or received protection from the Special Bureau through plea bargains.

While it was shocking that the Adrian Blake belonged to such a class, it was not impossible.

The cause of his classification as a [Euclid]-class entity.

Colt vaguely conjectured that it was likely Adrian Blake’s hidden past.

Meanwhile, Adrian remained just as he was at the start, making it hard to believe his hidden identity had been exposed within the Bureau.

He still looked idle, languid.

He even appeared bored.

“I am indeed a [Euclid].”

Adrian Blake spoke while looking toward the mirror of the interrogation room.

Colt froze stiff, failing to notice the subtle incongruity in Adrian’s tone.

The Deputy Director opened the mirror door and stepped into the interrogation room.

Yet Adrian didn’t shrink back in the slightest, offering a beautiful smile instead.

“But is that a problem?”

The look on Deputy Director Sandria’s face as she confronted him was hard to describe.

Her complexion turned pale like Colt’s, then blue, and finally settled into a grimace.

“Adrian Blake.”

Like Colt, she did not address Adrian with an honorific.

Her reason was slightly different, however: the biggest factor was that Adrian Blake simply did not deserve to be addressed with respect.

Deputy Director Sandria spoke after taking a deep breath.

“Do you truly not understand why we are interrogating you like this?”

“Isn’t treating a colleague like a top-tier criminal just for making a confession a bit excessive?”

“Did you forget your true nature while pretending to be human?”

The Deputy Director looked up at the sky for a moment and vented as if lamenting.

She then raised her right hand.

Clack.

A heavy metallic click sounded as a pistol was cocked.

“You are far too dangerous.”

Deputy Director Sandria aimed the pistol at Adrian.

However, Adrian raised both hands with an unbothered expression.

Even that gesture seemed like he was just fooling around, so Colt and the other investigators were about to relax and let out hollow laughs when a sharp voice pierced their ears.

“Are you demonstrating that gunfire won’t even work against you?”

Cold sweat trickled down Sandria Oslo’s forehead as she said those words.

The Deputy Director was in a state of high tension all by herself.

She slowly aimed the pistol at Adrian’s temple and bared her teeth.

“Keep this in mind. You are not an innocent, good Federal citizen—you are an observed subject of the Special Bureau.”

“…….”

“Unless you want to be isolated again, there shouldn’t be any more of these unpredictable incidents.”

A sudden smile formed on Adrian’s face.

“Isolated?”

His grey eyes were not laughing.

He stared past the mirror Sandria had emerged from for a long moment, then slowly pushed the gun away with the edge of his hand.

“A threat is only meaningful if you have the capability to carry it out.”

Deputy Director Sandria’s pupils dilated before shrinking sharply in sheer terror.

Gritting her teeth, the Deputy Director readjusted her trembling grip on the pistol.

She then barked back in a far harsher tone than before.

“Where is Selena Han? Tell me right now!”

She grabbed Adrian by the collar with her free hand and yelled in a high-pitched voice.

“She’s still alive, isn’t she?!”

“…….”

“Adrian Blake! Answer me!”

The other investigators watched them in bewilderment.

It was their first time seeing Adrian Blake, their proud colleague, clash so fiercely with the Deputy Director they respected.

“Did you get what those two are talking about?”

“Nope.”

Colt exchanged a clueless brief dialogue with a colleague before shaking his head.

Damn it, if he’s a [Euclid], he’s a [Euclid]—what else is there?

But if left unchecked, his superiors might be reduced from two to one.

Colt jumped in to break the two apart.

Soon, starting with Colt, the investigators grabbed onto both of them.

“Deputy Director!”

Colt barely managed to separate Deputy Director Sandria from Adrian, catching his breath.

He then brought up a fact the Deputy Director had been forgetting since earlier.

“Deputy Director, please calm down. No matter if he’s a [Euclid]-class villain, there’s no way that Adrian Blake would harm an innocent Federal citizen.”

Hearing those words, Deputy Director Sandria swept her sweat-soaked red hair back nervously.

“No way he’d harm her? If you all had read Adrian Blake’s impulses as well……”

The Deputy Director realized her slip of the tongue and let out a dry laugh.

“Ha.”

But the words were already out of her mouth.

Colt peered into the sweat-soaked face of Deputy Director Sandria with concern.

“Deputy Director, what did you see from him? Did cold reading work?”

Cold reading.

A non-verbal technique used to read the inner mind of an opponent.

At his words, all eyes shifted toward Adrian and the Deputy Director.

While Adrian Blake was classified as an Electro-mage, Deputy Director Sandria Oslo possessed the psychic ability to read a person’s inner imagery.

In most cases, reading imagery yielded abstract, useless results, but Deputy Director Sandria had just read the fundamental mindscape underlying Adrian Blake.

A golden kaleidoscope of skin tones and bright crimson repeating in incomprehensible patterns.

And an overwhelmingly intense void originating from within…

It was a bizarre, dizzying sight that she, as a human, could not comprehend.

Nausea surged inside her.

Deputy Director Sandria held her forehead in disgust and spoke weakly.

“Blake, everyone leave except you.”

Even if the Special Bureau’s discipline was looser than the Federal Peacekeeping Force, a superior’s order was absolute.

The watchful investigators left the interrogation room one by one.

Colt patted Adrian’s shoulder, offering a word of encouragement before stepping out.

“That kid seems to be misunderstanding something. It wasn’t such a cute desire.”

Deputy Director Sandria flopped down onto the chair opposite the interrogation table, completely exhausted.

She avoided eyeing Adrian’s ungloved hand.

“It seems we need to have an in-depth conversation.”

“In that case, shouldn’t you send away the uninvolved people as well?”

Deputy Director Sandria frowned slightly as Adrian gestured toward the mirror.

“That won’t do. The ones over there are Federal Senators.”

“Then we won’t be able to have a candid conversation, will we?”

“…….”

“The reason I was demoted to a [Euclid] class and became a dog of the Special Bureau is top secret, after all.”

Deputy Director Sandria snapped her head up.

Adrian Blake—a [Euclid]-class observation subject of the Special Bureau and the absolute calamity that had driven an entire world to destruction—was smiling brightly.

The interior of the interrogation room flashed with the electricity Adrian emitted.

Her chin trembled, and a chill washed over her neck as if an invisible hand were gripping her heart.

Deputy Director Sandria gritted her teeth so as not to lose to his overwhelming aura.

Leaving the sweating Deputy Director behind, he stood up from his seat.

He then walked toward the mirror spanning one wall of the interrogation room.

Tread, tread.

The heavy thuds of military boots drew closer.

To those behind the mirror, Adrian Blake approaching looked like the Grim Reaper.

The three senators, two journalists, and nine bodyguards watching the confrontation panicked, scrambling for the exit.

But Adrian was faster.

He knocked on the mirror.

Knock, knock.

Along with a sound akin to knocking on a door, a gentle, kind voice echoed out.

“It would be best for you to come out of there.”

Because from here on, we’ll be discussing things you shouldn’t listen to from a hiding spot.

The gazes of those behind the mirror flickered wildly.

All records containing the name Adrian Blake carried high security clearances.

To think he was a [Euclid]-class observation subject!

Furthermore, certain secrets threatened one’s life simply by being known.

None of the visitors who had come to watch the troubled young war hero of the Federation wanted to risk their lives.

The group rushed out of the interrogation room in a frenzy.

Meanwhile, Adrian stood with arms crossed, leisurely watching the people fleeing ahead and behind.

“To get straight to the point, Selena Han is safe.”

Deputy Director Sandria remained seated with an expressionless face until then.

She was thoroughly drained from enduring Adrian’s implicit threat.

Adrian asked the Deputy Director out of genuine curiosity.

“Why on earth do you think I would harm Sena?”
