She spat out in a raspy voice.
Through her long years as a journalist, she had grown adept at controlling her facial expressions.
However, right now, she lacked the confidence to hide what she was feeling.
“I’ve had all sorts of thoughts during this time.”
For someone as proud as her, who cared even about the gazes of her adoptive father Cyrus Hale or her old friends, showing her true feelings like this was an exceptionally rare occurrence.
“Whether you confessed to me to get revenge, whether you’re planning to quit the Special Bureau, or if this too is all just part of some operation.”
“Sena.”
“Why on earth does it have to be me?”
Though she had written articles criticizing him for a long time, it couldn’t be compared to the pressure applied by anti-war advocates or the Republican faction.
Hair fell over Sena’s lowered face, completely concealing her expression.
Adrian reached out his hand, combing through her fine, black hair as he spoke.
“I’ve already answered that.”
A moment of silence was needed before hearing his next words.
“I told you that I love you, didn’t I?”
“Lies. That makes no sense.”
Sena severed Adrian’s answer without a second thought.
The smile that had been lingering on his face vanished.
“I cannot lie, Sena.”
Though you probably won’t believe my words.
Adrian whispered like that and raised his body from above her.
Whether it was just her imagination, his back as he stepped through the doorway looked lonely, and his slowly moving steps looked pouting as if asking her to hold him back; nevertheless, Sena shook her head to erase the untimely sentimentality.
It had to be an illusion.
There was no way a planet destroyer, a war weapon created by the Federation, Adrian Blake, would act so childishly.
She must have been sentimental because she hadn’t completely woken up yet.
Sena staggered into the bathroom, intending to splash cold water on her face.
And then, she froze in horror.
“My goodness, he said those words even after seeing this face?”
Her face was covered in the dried tracks of tears and snot.
It was because of the nightmare she had had during the night.
It wasn’t an ugly face, but because it was so thoroughly messy, any normal person would have handed over a handkerchief before bursting into a declaration of love.
No, even before that, their rose-colored glasses would have been shattered.
Sena hurriedly turned on the water at the sink.
And right alongside the flowing water, she washed away even the tiny sliver of possibility she had left open for his confession.
Rather than believing that the Adrian Blake loved her, it was far more realistic to think he was acting for the sake of an operation.
Even if, by some one-in-a-million chance, Adrian Blake’s confession were real, there had to be a fatal flaw in his sense of aesthetics.
Thinking of it that way made her feel a whole lot lighter inside.
Just as Special Bureau Deputy Director Sandria Oslo had said, she was merely caught in the middle of a typhoon.
To her, Adrian was like a natural disaster.
And a mere human could do nothing but lie flat on the ground and pray for the natural disaster to pass.
What did it matter whether that crazy confession was acting or sincere?
‘If I play along with him a few times, he’ll get bored soon enough.’
Sena genuinely thought so.
In some ways, she mistrusted Adrian even more than the villains did.
Her experience of following him around at the risk of her life back in her naive days had made her this way.
“I was out of my mind back then. Truly.”
It wasn’t like Adrian Blake would know anyway.
The cool stream of water pouring forcefully from the sink swallowed her whisper.
To think that knowing spilled water couldn’t be gathered back up could bring such relief.
Sena turned off the violently pouring water and raised her head.
In the mirror, a pale-faced woman was glaring back at her.
Perhaps because of her gloomy face, the heavy moisture on her skin sparkled just like tears.
Now, she couldn’t tell whether the suffocating feeling in her chest was due to being trapped in this mansion with Adrian, or because that trophy brought back memories of the old days.
However, neither side mattered.
Just like whether his confession was the truth or not.
Sena held the dress prepared in her room against her body.
Not only was the length just right, but the neat design was also very much to her taste.
Even so, it didn’t improve her mood.
Just as Sena Han knew Adrian Blake well, he undoubtedly knew her just as well.
Surprisingly, the cosmetics she used were also prepared in this room.
Even though they were brand new with the packaging still intact, Sena didn’t even touch the cosmetics.
There were only two people here anyway.
What was the point of trying to look good for Adrian Blake?
Thinking that, Sena stroked her wrist.
Whether it was lost during all the chaos, the communication device she had been wearing on her left wrist was gone.
The possibility that Adrian had taken it couldn’t be ruled out either.
A sigh escaped her lips naturally.
It seemed she had to count the database she had accumulated inside the communication device as lost.
If not that, she would have to negotiate with Adrian.
After much deliberation, Sena turned back toward the vanity mirror.
Could her appearance serve as a bargaining chip?
Sena knew she was fairly good-looking, but the problem was Adrian.
Whether he lacked an aesthetic eye or not, he had casually blabbered about love even after seeing a face stained with tears and snot.
While Sena was deep in thought for a long time, the sound of knocking on the door rang out with precise rhythm.
“Blake?”
Adrian was standing outside the door.
Sena let out a hollow laugh.
It was ridiculous how he observed such minor politeness while pushing forward with things while ignoring her will.
“What is it?”
Sena asked, crossing her arms and leaning against the doorway.
The fact that she only opened the door just enough for her to be seen clearly displayed her determination not to let Adrian inside.
Adrian lowered his head to match her eye level.
“Is there anything uncomfortable?”
“Having the things I used to use prepared here makes me uncomfortable.”
“…Is it not comfortable?”
Adrian asked after a brief pause.
His puzzled face really seemed like he didn’t know which part was wrong, causing Sena to snort in contempt.
“No, it gives me goosebumps because it feels like you were stalking me.”
“I see. I will rectify it.”
Adrian answered instantly.
For some reason, the current Adrian looked ready to grant all of Sena’s demands.
Sena immediately listed out her requirements.
“I need a purple bath robe, the thick notepad I used to use, writing utensils, strong alcohol, a typewriter, and the communication device I lost. Ah, and I’d like the paper to put in the typewriter to be high-quality cream-colored paper.”
“I will give you the communication device once we leave the mansion. I will prepare all the rest.”
Sena bit her lip.
She thought that if she mixed it into a variety of requests, he might grant it offhandedly, but as expected, it didn’t work.
Still, there was one thing she couldn’t give up.
She added as an afterthought, as if passing by.
“And I also need birth control pills.”
“Hmm…”
After contemplating for a moment, Adrian smiled brightly.
“I don’t think that will be necessary.”
It was an utterly irresponsible thing to say.
Males, honestly.
Sena calmly picked up the vase next to her.
The logical thought that a mere vase wouldn’t work on him had completely vanished.
Adrian raised both hands like a civilian encountering a wild beast and said,
“Wait, Sena, calm down. What you’re worrying about won’t happen.”
“Did you get snipped? Did you get vasectomized?”
“That’s not it, but…”
Sena raised the vase once more.
And she struck it down at Adrian without an ounce of mercy.
Crash.
The vase that collided with Adrian broke helplessly into pieces.
Without showing even the slightest hint of pain, he asked Sena carefully,
“Sena, have you ever seen the offspring of a lion and a tiger, or a donkey and a horse, reproduce?”
“No.”
“It’s similar to that.”
It was a neat explanation.
Since he had essentially confessed that he lacked reproductive capabilities himself.
It was a huge relief, but why didn’t it feel particularly good?
Sena scanned Adrian from top to bottom with an inscrutable face.
“Then what was it that you did to me?”
“Hmm.”
Adrian murmured, avoiding Sena’s gaze.
“Sena clearly said it felt good…”
Looking closely, his eyebrows were slightly drooped, making him look somewhat wronged.
Sena held her head in utter disbelief.
Seeing that, Adrian read her expression and said,
“Sena, do you want to touch my chest?”
Where on earth did this conversation go wrong?
Sena crossed her arms with a troubled heart and glared at Adrian.
It felt like she was paying the price right now for writing articles defaming him in the past.
Previously, she had thought that Adrian Blake possessed an overly mystical concept.
However, looking at it now, it was undoubtedly the result of the Special Bureau working tirelessly to manage his reputation.
