Chapter 50: The Tao Family’s Old Residence

Tang Shu turned to Liu Sao beside her and pleaded quietly,

“Liu Sao, could you please keep what happened today a secret?”

Liu Sao immediately understood, a knowing smile flashing across her eyes.

“Of course, of course! Young Madam, don’t worry. I’m very good at keeping secrets. I absolutely won’t say a word. I understand young people’s little romantic moments.”

Tang Shu nearly choked at the phrase “little romantic moments.”

Her cheeks turned even redder.

Embarrassed, she quickly looked away and didn’t dare respond, hurriedly changing the subject.

“Then could you please look after Little Shu for me? I’ll go back across the hall to change.”

“Go ahead, Young Madam. I’ll definitely take good care of the kitten. I’ll have breakfast ready soon too. Remember to come over and eat,” Liu Sao said with a warm smile.

Tang Shu practically fled from 1801, quickly walking into her own apartment, 1802, across the hall.

The moment she entered, she saw that Zhang Ma had already begun cleaning, organizing her clothes, and tidying up the apartment with practiced ease.

Tang Shu walked over, looking slightly embarrassed.

“Zhang Ma, about what just happened…”

Before she could finish, Zhang Ma immediately smiled and interrupted, understanding everything at once.

“Miss, don’t worry. I won’t say anything. I’ll definitely keep it a secret for you. Once you and Mr. Shi officially make your relationship public, I’ll be happy for you.”

Having her thoughts exposed so directly, Tang Shu’s ears turned slightly red.

“Thank you, Zhang Ma. You’re the best.”

As she wiped down the table, Zhang Ma smiled warmly and continued chatting.

“If the Old Master and Old Madam knew that you’ve been staying over here so often, they’d definitely be very happy.”

“They’ve always been hoping you’d come back more often and spend some time chatting with them whenever you’re free.”

Tang Shu’s eyes curved into a gentle smile as she obediently replied,

“I know. I’ll come back and spend more time with Grandma and Grandpa whenever I have the chance.”

After saying that, she quickly went into the bedroom to change into clean clothes and freshen up.

Then she hurried back to the apartment next door, 1801.

By then, Liu Sao had already prepared a steaming breakfast, filling the entire table with food.

Tang Shu had a simple breakfast, then crouched down and spent some time playing with Little Shu before saying goodbye.

“Little Shu, be good and stay home. I’ll come back to see you as soon as class is over.”

After soothing the kitten, Tang Shu said goodbye to Liu Sao, turned around, and left for school.

…

Saturday morning.

Tang Shu slowly opened her eyes in the soft bed at Qingyun Apartments, 1802.

Her gaze instinctively fell upon the fluffy orange kitten, Little Shu, sleeping soundly on the soft cushion beside her bed.

The morning sunlight fell gently over the kitten’s fluffy orange fur, bathing it in warmth.

The same sunlight reflected in Tang Shu’s eyes, bringing out a soft, tender smile.

Her eyes were filled with affection.

She raised a hand and gently stroked Little Shu’s head, her fingertips brushing through its soft fur.

The little thing was sleeping deeply. It merely rubbed instinctively against her palm.

After soothing the kitten, Tang Shu got out of bed and walked into the bathroom to freshen up.

By May, Jiang City had long since shed the slight chill of spring.

The temperature was steadily rising.

The early-summer breeze carried a gentle warmth, fresh and bright.

Today, Tang Shu wore a cropped milk-apricot puff-sleeved blouse paired with a light apricot floral maxi skirt.

The skirt fell lightly and smoothly around her legs, accentuating her slender waist and making her look even more gentle and sweet.

She paired it with a pair of cream-colored canvas shoes with soft soles.

Her black hair hung loosely over her shoulders, with several tiny braids woven into it.

She looked even more adorable and lively.

Standing in front of the full-length mirror, Tang Shu tilted her head slightly and playfully made a face at her reflection.

She couldn’t help secretly giggling to herself.

I’m still way too pretty.

Today was Saturday, and Shi Manman had invited her to spend the day by the sea.

They planned to stay overnight, watch the sunset and evening glow, feel the sea breeze, and enjoy the night scenery.

Of course, the main reason was that Shi Manman wanted to go on a date with Shen Wenbin.

Afraid things would be awkward, she had dragged Tang Shu along to make up the numbers.

Shen Wenbin had done the same on his side and invited his friend Wei Chengze.

And just like that, the four of them became a group of four.

They had originally invited the other two girls from their dorm, but both already had plans for the weekend and had to drop out at the last minute.

Tang Shu hadn’t really wanted to go out and join the fun in the first place.

She especially didn’t want to stand between the other two like an unnecessary third wheel.

But she couldn’t resist Shi Manman’s persistent pleading.

For the sake of her best friend’s lifelong happiness, she could only reluctantly agree to go.

Shi Manman had told her from the beginning that she didn’t need to prepare anything.

Food, accommodation, and activities had all been arranged.

She would come pick Tang Shu up at exactly ten in the morning.

It was only eight-thirty now, so there was still plenty of time.

After eating a simple breakfast, Tang Shu carefully got herself ready.

She slung a breathable canvas carrier specially designed for cats over her shoulder.

Inside were Little Shu’s cat food, snacks, small toys, and a portable litter mat.

Since they would be spending the night by the sea and no one would be at the apartment to look after Little Shu, Tang Shu simply couldn’t bring herself to leave the kitten alone.

The day before, Zhang Ma had suggested that if Tang Shu didn’t have time to take care of the kitten, she could send it to the Tao family’s old residence.

The elderly members of the Tao family were kindhearted and especially fond of small animals. They would definitely take good care of Little Shu.

After thinking it over carefully, Tang Shu decided to let Little Shu stay at the Tao family’s old residence for a couple of days.

Of course, she had already contacted them beforehand.

She took a taxi to Baiyun Bay.

This time, she wasn’t going to the Shi family.

She was going to the Tao family.

When she arrived, she stopped outside the ornate wrought-iron gate and took a deep breath, spending quite some time mentally preparing herself.

It really had been a long time since she had visited the Tao family.

Everyone in the Tao family was simply too warm and sincere toward her. They treated her exceptionally well.

But she was still one of the younger generation, and her mother wasn’t in Jiang City.

Whenever she came here alone, she always felt a little restrained and awkward.

She was afraid of troubling her elders, and she was also afraid she couldn’t bear the weight of such overwhelming affection.

That was why she had always hesitated to visit too often.

After calming herself down, Tang Shu raised her hand and pressed the doorbell.

A moment later, the gate opened from inside.

A middle-aged man in a neat formal suit, with a gentle and dignified air about him, quickly walked out.

It was Uncle Yang, the Tao family’s longtime butler who had always served by Old Master Tao’s side.

When Uncle Yang saw the graceful young woman standing outside the gate, a warm smile instantly spread across his eyes.

He greeted her affectionately,

“Miss, you’re finally here.”

Tang Shu’s expression softened as she politely greeted him.

“Good morning, Uncle Yang.”

Uncle Yang hurried forward and took the things from her hands, smiling as he continued,

“Old Master, Old Madam, the Young Master, and Madam all knew first thing this morning that you were coming. They’ve been happily looking forward to your arrival all morning.”

Tang Shu’s ears grew slightly warm, embarrassment filling her heart.

She softly explained,

“Actually, I came today because I wanted to bring my kitten here to stay for a couple of days. I’m going to spend the night at the seaside with some friends, and there won’t be anyone at the apartment to look after it. I’ll have to trouble the elders to take care of it for a few days.”

She thought that having the soft and well-behaved Little Shu around would help keep her grandparents company.

It could also be considered a small gesture of affection from her.

Uncle Yang smiled and nodded, leading her toward the villa.

“Not a trouble at all, not a trouble at all. Old Madam loves little animals more than anything. She’ll be overjoyed to have a kitten here.”

The two had just crossed the courtyard and hadn’t even entered the living room yet when a warm, affectionate female voice filled with delight came from inside.

“Xiao Shu! You’re finally here! Your grandmother talks about you every single day. She’s been wishing and waiting for you to come!”

Tang Shu looked up.

A woman with elegant makeup and a graceful, refined air quickly walked out of the living room.

It was her aunt-in-law, Han Meiyun, the mother of Tao Hongyi.

Tang Shu slightly bent forward and greeted her politely.

“Good morning, Auntie.”

Han Meiyun immediately walked over and took her hand.

Her palm was warm and soft, and her eyes were filled with affection.

“Good morning, sweetheart. Have you eaten breakfast?”

“I have, Auntie.”

“Even if you have, that’s fine. Come have some snacks with us and keep your grandparents company for a while.”

Smiling, Han Meiyun held Tang Shu’s hand and led her all the way into the spacious and elegant living room.
