Chapter 15: Through Wind and Rain, All for the Sake of Reaching Each Other

In the classroom, the professor’s voice remained calm and gentle as he lectured.

Outside, however, the sky suddenly darkened.

The blazing sun that had been shining fiercely just moments ago vanished in an instant.

Heavy black clouds swallowed the horizon.

Without warning, torrential rain poured down from the heavens.

The relentless sound of rainfall instantly enveloped the entire campus.

Shi Manman stared at the blurry curtain of rain outside.

Her face immediately fell.

With a look of regret, she muttered softly,

“We’re doomed. It was perfectly sunny when we left this morning, so none of us brought an umbrella. We’re really done for now.”

Drooping her head, she let out a dramatic wail.

“This is terrible. We won’t be able to get back to the dorm after class. At this rate, we’ll starve in the classroom.”

Following her gaze, Tang Shu looked outside.

The rain fell in dense sheets.

“Don’t worry. Maybe it’s just a sun shower. It came suddenly, so it might stop just as quickly. By the time class ends, it could already be over.”

Shi Manman immediately pulled up the weather forecast on her phone.

After checking it, she looked even more defeated.

Slumping onto her desk, she groaned,

“Hopeless. I just checked the forecast. It’s going to rain all the way until tonight. There’s no chance it’ll stop.”

Seeing her dejected expression, Tang Shu couldn’t help smiling.

She gently rubbed Shi Manman’s head.

“Alright, stop looking so miserable and focus on class. If the rain doesn’t stop later, we’ll just throw our jackets over our heads and run back to the dorm. We won’t get that wet.”

Shi Manman sighed.

“If only Yang Xi and Jiayu were on campus. They’d definitely find time to bring us umbrellas.”

Tang Shu nodded slightly.

Unfortunately, Yang Xi had taken several days off due to family matters.

Xu Jiayu was busy researching a new project and her schedule was completely different from theirs.

To avoid skipping classes, Shi Manman had deliberately chosen the same elective as Tang Shu.

Outside, the rain showed no sign of weakening.

Raindrops slammed against the leaves and windows with tremendous force.

By chance, Tang Shu glanced toward the windowsill.

Among the green branches outside, a tiny sparrow was hiding.

Its pale feathers were damp from the rain.

Nestled quietly among the intertwined leaves, it remained perfectly still.

Its little head drooped slightly as it sheltered from the storm.

Timid, obedient, and pitifully adorable.

Tang Shu took out her phone.

After lowering the brightness, she quietly captured the scene.

Then she opened her WeChat chat with Shi Zhiyu.

Her fingers tapped lightly against the screen.

Shu Shu Has Candy: 【Brother, it’s raining. I spotted a little sparrow hiding from the rain.】

【And suddenly I thought… everyone in the world hides from storms, but I only want to hide in your arms.】

After sending the message, she put away her phone and returned her attention to the sparrow outside.

The rain pattered softly.

The wind whispered through the trees.

The greenery outside looked especially vibrant after being washed by the rain.

The little sparrow remained quietly perched on its branch, as if patiently waiting for the storm to end.

Resting her chin on her hand, Tang Shu gazed outside.

A gentle smile lingered in her eyes.

Her heart felt warm and soft.

The little sparrow was quite clever.

It knew how to find a safe corner to shelter from the rain.

So obedient and lovable.

Not long afterward, something surprisingly heartwarming happened.

Within the endless downpour and misty rain,

another sparrow appeared.

Its feathers were equally soaked.

Facing the fierce wind and rain, it desperately flapped its wings.

Stumbling through the storm—

yet unwaveringly determined.

Rain weighed down its feathers.

Its soaked wings made every movement difficult.

But it never hesitated.

Breaking through the storm’s resistance, it flew onward.

Straight toward the little sparrow sheltering on the branch.

Though the distance was short, the journey was incredibly difficult.

Yet it remained stubbornly persistent.

At last, it landed steadily beside the other sparrow.

The sparrow that had been quietly curled up immediately lifted its head.

It chirped several times.

The sounds seemed to carry both reproach and delight.

As though it were saying:

“The rain is so heavy and the storm is so fierce. Why did you still come all this way? It’s dangerous.”

The arriving sparrow gently rubbed against it.

Tilting its head slightly, it used its warm beak to carefully groom the rain-soaked feathers of its companion.

Soft chirps rose and fell between them.

As though it were replying:

“I was afraid the rain would be too loud and you’d get scared alone. I was afraid you’d be lonely. So I came to keep you company.”

The storm raged all around them.

The world was noisy and chaotic.

Yet upon that tiny branch existed a quiet world of comfort and tenderness that belonged only to them.

Tang Shu silently watched the healing scene.

Warmth instantly filled her heart.

The gentleness in her eyes deepened.

The gloomy rainy day suddenly became beautiful because of this small act of mutual devotion.

Quickly, she picked up her phone and captured the moment.

In the photograph, the two sparrows nestled together on the branch, grooming each other’s feathers.

Simple.

Pure.

Healing.

Looking at the photo, she couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.

The most touching form of tenderness in the world wasn’t sharing sunshine beneath clear skies.

It was when someone braved the wind and rain just to reach you and stay by your side.

Moved by the thought, she sent the photo to Shi Zhiyu.

Shu Shu Has Candy: 【I witnessed something incredibly touching on this rainy day.】

【No matter how fierce the storm is, one little sparrow still crossed through the wind and rain to reach its companion and stay close beside it.】

【Suddenly, I’m a little envious. The best kind of companionship is braving any storm just to reach each other.】

Ding—

The crisp sound of the class bell echoed throughout the teaching building.

Tang Shu and Shi Manman followed the stream of students out of the classroom and stopped on the steps outside.

The rain was still pouring heavily.

Dense curtains of rain blocked the path ahead.

The ground was already covered with puddles of all sizes.

Cold wind mixed with drizzle blew against them, carrying a slight chill.

The entrance was packed with students who had also forgotten their umbrellas.

A sea of stranded people.

Looking at the crowd, Shi Manman immediately felt much better.

She bumped Tang Shu’s arm and laughed.

“Look, look! Turns out we’re not the only unlucky ones. Everyone’s trapped here too. We’re not fighting alone!”

Tang Shu shook her head helplessly, smiling.

“You really have a strange way of thinking. Aren’t you afraid someone will hear that and come beat you up?”

Just as she finished speaking, a warm male voice sounded beside them.

“Tang Shu.”

Tang Shu turned toward the voice.

The class monitor, Xu Yan, was making his way through the crowd toward them.

“Class Monitor, is something wrong?” Tang Shu greeted him politely.

Xu Yan stopped in front of her.

His gaze drifted toward the torrential rain.

“I noticed you two standing here. You didn’t bring umbrellas, right?”

Shi Manman’s eyes immediately lit up.

With a teasing grin, she said,

“Oh? Class Monitor, are you planning to take off your jacket and escort our Shu Shu back to the dorm?”

The tips of Xu Yan’s ears reddened slightly.

Yet he nodded honestly.

Looking directly at Tang Shu, he said seriously,

“I can.”

“My jacket is big enough to cover two people. I’ll walk you back.”

As he spoke, he reached for the hem of his jacket, preparing to take it off.

At that exact moment, through the rain not far away, a couple hurried past.

The young man held his oversized jacket over both their heads.

Within that tiny sheltered space, they huddled close together.

Their shoulders touched.

Their steps matched.

The atmosphere was intimate and ambiguous.

Then they disappeared into the rain.

The scene was impossible to ignore.

And in an instant, Xu Yan’s feelings became completely obvious.
