Chapter 14: The Final Storm and a Surprising Recharge

The spiraling blade vanished the instant it was fired. The Elder of Demonic Roar’s pupils constricted, and his arm shot out, grabbing his own chest. He yanked hard, the immense force shifting his body by several inches.

At that very moment, a spiraling blade, wreathed in flames and terrifying spatial fluctuations, suddenly erupted from his left chest, shattering half of his body.

The Elder of Demonic Roar’s health plummeted by nearly two-thirds in an instant.

He coughed up black blood. The surrounding storm steadily weakened, and the Elder of Demonic Roar’s face was exceedingly grim. Though he felt no pain, such a grievous wound, even if he survived, would take an unknown amount of time to heal.

Clenching his remaining half-set of teeth, he waved a single hand, and black smoke materialized, patching up the missing half of his body.

“Damn it! How dare you! You are nothing but a mere brat! I have lived for centuries; how could I be killed by a mere child? I refuse to accept this! Storm, take control of my body and kill this brat!”

Bloodstains marred the Elder of Demonic Roar’s grotesque face. Just as he roared, the storm gradually began to take over his remaining life force.

His health bar forcibly changed to 10.

All negative effects vanished, replaced by an entirely new status panel.

[The Final Storm]: The modified human body has transformed into a monster. It now wields the full power of the ability: [Storm]. Health is forcibly set to 10. Each attack reduces health by one point, and upon reaching 0, the monster vanishes.

To be honest, this was quite weak.

No wonder he had never used this technique in his previous life when they eliminated this guy. Ten hits — a hundred players could easily achieve that.

However, facing Zhang Luan alone, his jealousy and endless rage drove him to abandon his irredeemable life, allowing his ability to fight in his stead.

This could be seen as a desperate measure, akin to self-destruction. Unfortunately, it was futile.

It would take a moment for the storm to fully control his body. Furthermore, Zhang Luan’s ability energy had dropped to rock bottom after his recent attack. But it didn’t matter; this was all within his expectations.

He pulled Nan Fenghua, who was standing foolishly nearby, closer and spoke through the pot on her head.

“You can restore mana, right?”

Indeed, this little simpleton could be used as a human power bank. In his previous life, among the players who could advance to the job class of Akamana Blessed, there were those capable of restoring others’ mana. As their Saintess, a genius who had mastered all Akamana blessings, it was impossible for her not to know how.

Upon hearing the words “restore mana,” Nan Fenghua’s mind conjured images of the two of them pressed closely together. However, before her imagination could delve deeper, Zhang Luan, somewhat exasperated, pinched her cheek.

“I said, you *can* do it, can’t you?”

“No, no, I… don’t know how.”

Pinching her cheek had hurt a little. She covered her face, bashfully closed her eyes, and began to pray. Soon, though, she secretly opened one eye and said, embarrassed:

“Um… let me think. How did that blessing go again…?”

Zhang Luan suppressed the urge to punch her. His face twitched into a smile as he said, “Shouldn’t it just roll off your tongue? You didn’t need to think when you blessed me just now, did you? Are you messing with me?”

Nan Fenghua hastily waved her hands, explaining in a flustered tone, “No, no, it’s not like that! I just learned it casually, so I forgot the incantation! Ah, I remember now!”

As the melodious sound of prayer enveloped him, his depleted ability energy slowly began to recover.

In this world, magic power, stamina, and ability energy were not always clearly differentiated.

Most of the time, people grouped ability energy and magic power together, collectively calling it magic power, as methods to restore magic power also restored ability energy. However, some individuals chose to differentiate them, naturally because certain powerful ability users refused to be associated with mages, creating their own distinctions.

Undeniably, this practice exacerbated the conflict between magic and ability users. Yet, even without such incidents, high-level academies for both magic and ability users typically taught how useless and trashy the other side was.

Therefore, Akamana City was considered the best beginner town in the early stages precisely because it lacked such factional discrimination.

When his mana bar had recovered by just a third, the Elder of Demonic Roar’s body was fully controlled by the storm. His face was devoid of light, his body hollow like a balloon. Black smoke, manipulated by the storm, coalesced into black storm spheres that were hurled his way.

Zhang Luan clicked his tongue. He pulled Nan Fenghua, who was still praying, into his arms and leaped aside.

Having dodged the black spheres, he watched Nan Fenghua, her face flushed with embarrassment, stop her prayer. Zhang Luan reached out and tapped the pot on her head.

“Don’t stop. Continue.”

“Ouch~ that hurts…”

She complained softly, then bit her lip and resumed praying. However, Zhang Luan’s image kept appearing in her mind. Her eyes seemed to hold tiny pink hearts, and even the air around her felt rosy.

If one were to open her status panel now, the talent named [Self] would be seen constantly flickering.

Zhang Luan didn’t know what was happening; he only knew his mana bar was filling up incredibly fast. He assumed it was because Nan Fenghua had some special ability she hadn’t used yet, which caused this rapid recovery. He mused inwardly:

‘Although she’s silly now, she’s indeed the future great villain. Her mana recovery speed is several times faster than others.’

The Storm Elder of Demonic Roar attacked again, but this time, Zhang Luan simply waved his hand. A Wall of Starflame instantly rose before him, blocking all the storm spheres. His mana bar had largely recovered; it was time to end this.

He pulled out his last dozen arrows, imbued them with the Power of Genesis, drew his bow, and aimed at the sky.

[Multitude of Starfall Arrows]

This once-useless skill was employed again, but unlike when he eliminated the goblins, the precise targeting ability of the Power of Genesis made this skill anything but useless.

When the first arrow pierced his body, the second, the third, the fourth…

All arrows struck the exact same spot without missing a single one. Even if the storm wished to evade, how could it escape space itself?

As the tenth attack struck, the remaining husk of a body collapsed, and the system’s voice echoed in Zhang Luan’s mind.

[Defeated Elder of Demonic Roar Cult]: Obtained Advanced Skill Book [Storm], Ability Stone: [Scorching Black Smoke], Rare Equipment Random Treasure Chest ×1, Mutated Crystal ×1

Zhang Luan gazed at the rewards floating before him, his eyes finally settling on the Mutated Crystal. While the other items were valuable, they didn’t pique his curiosity. The Mutated Crystal, however, was a truly excellent item.

[Mutated Crystal]: Upon use, changes race to a Modified Race. Allows for the addition of foreign organs to the body, granting special abilities.

This item was highly sought after in his previous life, as the effect of gaining abilities after transplanting other organs was genuinely powerful.

However, the cost was becoming unsightly and no longer a normal human. After the world fusion, they were heavily ostracized by ordinary people.

In his previous life, he had disregarded it because he found the racial transformation too ugly. Now, he had even less reason to use it.

But some people wouldn’t care about such things.
