Chapter 3: The All-Star Flames and the Goblin Champion

With a single cleave, the goblin’s health instantly hit zero. Its body split cleanly down the middle. With a thud, it collapsed to the ground.

These goblins had incredibly low health, easily vanquished by the might of the All-Star Flames. However, the crude clubs they wielded packed a surprising punch.

Zhang Luan’s current health was a mere hundred points, and a single blow from a club would deplete seventy of them. This meant he could only withstand two hits.

Yet, he harbored no fear of death. ‘Mere goblins,’ he mused, ‘with my combat skills from my previous life, I can easily wipe them out!’

The demise of their comrades did not instill fear in the goblins. Instead, they charged forward with even greater frenzy.

Wielding their crude, pitch-black clubs, they hammered at Zhang Luan one after another.

In Zhang Luan’s eyes, however, their movements were agonizingly slow.

He wove through the horde of goblins. Each strike claimed a life. The scorching All-Star Flames ensured they turned to ash before they could even let out a scream.

In a mere three minutes, an entire goblin squad—over fifty creatures—was utterly annihilated.

The system’s prompt echoed in his ears.

[Level Up – Current Level: 2]

He casually allocated his free attribute point to Intelligence, immediately boosting Zhang Luan’s Intelligence attribute to an astounding 220.

His gaze drifted to a newly attracted squad of goblins, a more benevolent smile gracing his features as he approached them.

As the sun gradually dipped below the horizon and dusk approached, Zhang Luan hurled a massive ball of All-Star Flames toward a distant goblin horde. Finally, the system’s prompt chimed again.

[Level Up – Current Level: 10]

Zhang Luan ceased his movements, discarding the melted blade in his hand, and stretched luxuriously.

Having finally reached level ten, Zhang Luan used the All-Star Flames to absorb the surrounding inferno before checking his experience bar. The bar did not display any indication of a level cap.

This meant his level wouldn’t be restricted by the system, which was excellent news.

He scrolled through his combat log, which recorded a final tally of 7,743 goblins slain.

“Did I really take down so many? I wonder how these goblins, all looking identical, recognize each other. Wouldn’t it be incredibly awkward if they mixed up their children?”

Ordinary goblins could no longer satisfy him. Moreover, reaching level ten was sufficient to accept the S-rank quest, which was his top priority.

But before he could take more than a few steps, a piercing shriek tore through the air. As he instinctively dodged sideways, he saw an arrow, thick as a baby’s arm, embed itself beside him.

Had that strike connected, his fragile frame would have been impaled, considering all his attribute points were poured into Intelligence, leaving other stats with only basic increments.

Thankfully, his combat instincts, honed over ten years in his previous life, had saved him.

He was angry.

Looking in the direction the arrow had come from, a grey-skinned goblin, much larger than its peers, sneered as it drew its bow, aiming at a running girl in front of it.

As the girl teetered on the brink of despair, Zhang Luan became her sole lifeline. She opened her mouth and screamed with all her might:

“Help!”

[A-rank Quest Triggered: [Help!!] Quest Content: Save the girl, slay the Goblin Champion. Rewards granted based on completion. Accept?]

He conjured a ball of All-Star Flames. With a thunderous boom, the arrow was incinerated, and the running girl was flung far back by the intense heatwave behind her.

“So, it was you?”

He accepted the quest. Although the Goblin Champion was a full ten levels higher than him, and as an elite monster of the goblin tribe, its strength was on an entirely different plane from ordinary goblins, he felt no fear whatsoever.

The Goblin Champion, seeing its prey escape, bared its fangs and swung a gleaming silver axe from its back. Its muscles bulged as it charged toward Zhang Luan.

As the battle was triggered, this goblin’s stats appeared in his vision.

He did not immediately dodge. Instead, he threw a ball of All-Star Flames directly into the sky. Just as the goblin was about to strike him with its massive axe, he retreated, and then a shower of meteor-like All-Star Flame fragments plummeted from above.

These fiery orbs continuously smashed into the Goblin Champion, the scorching pain making it shriek and sprawl on the ground, unable to move.

The visual effect was impressive, but the rate at which its health decreased was rather slow.

“Such high resistance.”

Just as he marveled at the creature’s thick hide, the girl slowly awoke, letting out a terrified scream.

Zhang Luan did not look at her, merely stating calmly, “Don’t be afraid. It’s just a mere goblin.”

The girl froze, disbelieving. How could the terrifying monster that had just been chasing her become so helpless in the hands of this handsome youth, who wasn’t much older than her?

Zhang Luan observed the girl. She appeared to be fourteen or fifteen, pure and charming, with long red hair tied back. A hint of fragility lingered in her black eyes.

Most importantly, she seemed somewhat familiar.

However, before he could recall where he had seen the girl, the Goblin Champion let out a furious roar. Veins bulged across its corpulent body, its hideously ugly face fixed on Zhang Luan. Its massive arm slammed against the ground, and it defiantly leaped up, pushing through the suppression of the All-Star Flames.

“What immense strength.”

All-Star Flames enveloped his iron sword. Zhang Luan’s strength and speed weren’t high, but dealing with such brainless creatures required only a touch of wisdom.

As the battle-axe swung horizontally, Zhang Luan lunged to the side, rolled twice, and counterattacked.

The All-Star Flames directly entered the goblin’s hyper-vulnerable lower body.

Because the impact point was not skin, the full burning damage of the All-Star Flames was unleashed.

The Goblin Champion’s health plummeted significantly.

It shrieked in pain. Seizing the opportunity, Zhang Luan conjured another ball of All-Star Flames and hurled it toward the same vital area.

Though enraged, the Goblin Champion had no choice but to squat, using a piece of scrap metal to shield its lower body. The flames exploded upon impact, engulfing its entire form in a massive cloud of smoke, obscuring its appearance.
