Chapter 34: The Fusion Core and a Legendary Artifact

“What a strange person.”

After a small grumble about Zhang Luan, Aruola focused on using the healing green light to mend the wounds.

Where the green light orb shone, a tingling sensation spread, and the black scabs fell away, revealing new skin beneath.

Zhang Luan stretched comfortably, then retrieved the core from the damaged Azure Righteous Sword.

His experience bar had surged after defeating that monster. With six or seven more, he might reach level sixteen—though Zhang Luan suspected he’d burn through his lifespan and die in the process.

Indeed, using one’s lifespan like that should be done in moderation.

Unless one had an abundance of life to spare.

Zhang Luan examined the core, its information appearing before his eyes.

[Fusion Core]

Status: Damaged (Irreparable)

Effect: Can fuse any object—energy, biological entities, spirits—to form a new lifeform. This lifeform automatically gains the ability [Shell], its HP is forcibly set to 1, and upon destruction of the core, the lifeform disappears.

Description: Originating from a distant empire, it traversed space to arrive here during an experiment.

Upon reading its description, Zhang Luan finally understood the strange mutation of the Library Spirit. It must have been fused with the power and instructions left behind by Avanyin, along with some other peculiar elements, ultimately transforming into the entity he had encountered earlier.

Aruola also seemed curious about the object, so Zhang Luan tossed the core to her.

Though she lacked a system, she possessed an appraisal skill, which, in some ways, proved more effective than any system panel.

“So, this is the thing that desecrated my sister’s power.”

Having understood its function, Aruola didn’t hesitate. With a clap of her tiny hands, the core shattered into dust, dissipating with a cool breeze.

Zhang Luan watched her, a dark line forming across his forehead. While the item held little use for him, it was still his spoils of war! Destroying it like that, it lost even its value as a collectible.

He bristled with indignation, his displeasure evident on his face. He reached out and pinched Aruola’s adorable cheeks.

“Hey, that was my stuff! You just destroyed it? How do you plan to compensate me?”

“It desecrated Sister’s power. Its destruction was deserved. Why are you touching my face again? I don’t understand the meaning of this action.”

Her unwavering conviction that she had done nothing wrong only fueled Zhang Luan’s irritation. He rubbed Aruola’s face vigorously, feeling his mood improve slightly.

“Even if it desecrated your sister, it was still my spoils of war. Fine, considering how cute you are, I won’t hold it against you. Just make sure to compensate me later, got it?”

Although Aruola was displeased with Zhang Luan’s meaningless actions, it was undeniable that she had destroyed the core.

“Mm, I will compensate you.”

Her serious demeanor was utterly captivating to Zhang Luan. He couldn’t resist rubbing her cute, impassive face again, a strange sense of accomplishment swelling within him.

“That’s the final floor, right?”

Standing before the stairwell, looking up at the ordinary ceiling, Zhang Luan found himself oddly reluctant to ascend.

“Yes, the highest floor. Sister’s belongings are there. The evil spirits have already been eliminated, though.”

Aruola nodded. The items Avanyin had left behind could be used to eradicate evil spirits. Even though those spirits had been devoured by the mutated monster, they had still reached this point. Moreover, the exit from this mage tower was on the top floor.

Zhang Luan took a deep breath. For some reason, he had a premonition that something strange would happen once they went up.

‘I hope no more weird things happen.’

Stepping onto the staircase, Zhang Luan ascended one step at a time. To his surprise, nothing out of the ordinary occurred.

This floor seemed no different from a typical tower’s summit. It even had a window offering a view of the outside, augmented with magic that prevented anyone from seeing in from the exterior.

At the very center of the floor stood a device with blue light strips flowing upwards. Within this device, a weapon that resembled both a spear and a cannon floated in mid-air.

This was precisely the legendary artifact that had circulated in the outside world in his previous life.

Zhang Luan approached it, reaching out to grasp it. Its information materialized before him.

[Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon] (Magic Device)

Rank: Legendary

Effect 1: Can absorb and store all energy, which can be retrieved and used at any time.

Effect 2: Can switch between two forms: [Wind Flower] and [Snow Moon].

[Wind Flower]: Spear form. Can imbue attacks with various stored attributes, and grants an additional 40% attack speed. Each attack reduces the enemy’s defense and resistance by 1% for 60 seconds (no stacking limit).

[Snow Moon]: Heavy Cannon Magic Device form. Can release all stored energy to fire a powerful Snow Moon Light Cannon, dealing massive area-of-effect damage. Damage calculation: (200% Intelligence + 300% energy consumed). Also reduces all hit enemies’ resistance and defense by 20% for 100 seconds (stackable).

A satisfied smile spread across Zhang Luan’s face. The fifty years of his lifespan he’d expended were well worth it. As a legendary artifact, this item was far more useful than the two he currently possessed; at least it offered a tangible increase in combat power.

Looking at his other two items—a pot that served as a helmet and a necklace that turned him into a woman—which of them was normal?

Furthermore, the appearance of this item largely compensated for his lack of mana. With it, he could directly draw upon its stored energy during battle when he ran out of mana, significantly boosting his sustained combat capability.

The only slight drawback was that one of the weapon’s forms was a spear. He didn’t know any spear-type skills, nor did he intend to learn any. If he needed to use it, there were plenty of melee skills within the archery system.

Aruola, who had followed him up, surveyed the surroundings before her gaze settled on the device housing the [Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon]. She gently tapped it a few times, and with a crackling sound, the upward-flowing light strips dispersed, condensing into a light screen guided by magic.

“What is this?”

“Sister said that if someone ever brought me here, it meant I could leave this tower. She left a few words here, saying they were for that person.”

Zhang Luan’s gaze shifted. ‘For me?’ He doubted it. In his previous life, this tower had been destroyed by the Demon Roar Cult, and nothing but the Wind, Flower, Snow, Moon had appeared. Avanyin wouldn’t have allowed her own sister to die here, so these words were likely left for the person Avanyin was truly waiting for.

That person would definitely not be him.

As the light screen expanded, the charming face of a young woman slowly appeared. Her silver-white hair gently swayed, and she opened her captivating amber eyes.

“This must be… our second meeting.”
