Chapter 20: Class Seven Erupts

The moment Zhao Lu led Jiang Xiaoyu into the classroom, the entirety of Class Seven exploded.

It wasn’t an explosion of welcome, but an explosion of slurping sounds. The arrival of a living human in a nest of aberrations produced a predictable reaction.

Dozens of pairs of eyes were pinned onto Jiang Xiaoyu—not with curiosity or scrutiny, but with hunger.

A living human! Fresh, living flesh! The scent of his life force drifted into their nostrils, far more intoxicating than any dish in the cafeteria.

“Wow, the homeroom teacher really broke the bank today!”

“Why are we getting such good treatment?”

“Is this a bonus meal?”

In the back row, a massive, dark shadow stood up and let out a guttural roar: “I want the legs! Nobody compete with me; that right leg is mine!” As he spoke, he slammed his desk so hard that the items on it jumped into the air.

Immediately, someone nearby objected: “Why do you get the legs? I want the legs too!”

“Stop fighting, give him the legs; I want the arms.”

“Leave the head for me! Fresh human brains are the most tender; slurp them down in one go without a sound.”

The chaotic voices blended together, and the classroom became as noisy as a wet market. Not a single person felt there was anything wrong—in their eyes, the person standing on the podium wasn’t a new classmate; he was a dish that hadn’t been plated yet.

Jiang Xiaoyu stood on the podium, squinting downward. He couldn’t see their faces, but he could hear them loud and clear.

Eat the legs, eat the arms, eat the brains.

Jiang Xiaoyu’s heart skipped a beat.

‘As I thought,’ he sighed inwardly. ‘All that talk about “everyone being respectful”—my cousin is just too innocent. She assumes everyone is as good as she is, but look at this? They dare to threaten a new student right in front of the homeroom teacher.’

He glanced at Xiaoqi, who was sitting in the very center of the front row. She was still as quiet and still as ever, seemingly indifferent to everything in the classroom.

But to Jiang Xiaoyu, this was evidence that his cousin was terrified—look, she didn’t even dare to speak.

Jiang Xiaoyu sneered. He had seen plenty of punks like this, and he’d beaten plenty of them into submission. If they wanted to play, he was happy to oblige.

Despite his 1,500-degree myopia, which made the world look like it was viewed through frosted glass, he was no pushover. On the contrary, he was a combat expert.

He had a way of fighting when he couldn’t see clearly: he had long ago mastered the ability to rely on his ears and his physical instincts.

Where the opponent’s feet shifted, from which direction a punch came, the location of their breathing—these details were clearer to him than if he had seen them with his eyes.

And because he couldn’t see the opponent’s face, he never held back—after all, he couldn’t see how badly they were hurting anyway.

‘Bullying me?’ Jiang Xiaoyu sneered in his heart. ‘A small lesson will suffice, but if anyone dares to bully my cousin—’

His gaze darkened instantly.

‘If anyone bullies my cousin, I won’t mind crippling them. After all, I’m particularly skilled at moving in the dead of night, doing things silently and without anyone ever knowing.’

He wasn’t bragging. Since he was a child, no one who had dared to touch those close to him had ever had a good ending.

Jiang Xiaoyu tucked these thoughts away and put on his signature smile.

The smile was lazy, the corners of his mouth turned slightly upward, carrying a hint of intangible wickedness. It wasn’t the icy grin of a vicious killer, but the smile of someone who had seen through everything and treated nothing as a threat.

The moment that smile appeared, the classroom went silent for a split second.

The slurping sounds stopped—not out of fear, but because of… something indefinable. The living person on the podium, squinting, his collar askew, looked like a complete idiot, but that expression… why did it make people feel so uneasy?

But the feeling vanished as quickly as it had come. After all, no matter how fierce the prey, it was still just prey.

The silence lasted only a second before even louder jeers exploded.

“Yo, acting all tough, are we?”

“What are you smiling at? You’ll be crying soon enough!”

“Stop arguing, all of you! I’m a college student, let me take the first bite!”

The roars of laughter made the windows hum.

Just then, the situation took a drastic turn.

The massive, dark shadow in the back row stood up.

His body expanded rapidly like an inflating balloon; his clothes ripped apart, coarse black bristles sprouted from his skin, and his bones cracked with a rhythmic crunch. In the blink of an eye, the aberration transformed into a giant bear.

The bear stood over two meters tall, its fangs white and jagged, drool dripping from its maw as its blood-red eyes locked onto Jiang Xiaoyu.

He couldn’t take it anymore. The temptation of a living human was simply too great; he had lost all reason.

“ROAR—!”

The giant bear dropped to all fours and launched its massive frame into the air, pressing down on the podium like a collapsing mountain.

The students in the front row scurried to the sides. Someone shouted gleefully, “Zhao Dayong, you want to eat alone? Teacher Zhao Lu is going to fix you for this!”

Jiang Xiaoyu heard the wind shear.

He heard it perfectly: a giant, rushing at him from the back of the classroom. Although he couldn’t see exactly what it looked like, the speed and the ferocity of the attack proved it wasn’t here for a friendly handshake.

His body sank slightly, shifting his center of gravity between his feet, his fingers tightening imperceptibly.

Yet before he could even move.

A streak of black light sliced across his vision—though blurry, the light was simply too fast, so fast that he couldn’t see a single thing clearly.

It was Zhao Lu’s teaching pointer.

The black ruler carved an arc through mid-air, bringing with it a fierce wind shear, sweeping cleanly and accurately across the giant bear’s neck. The motion was so clean and crisp that it looked less like swinging a ruler and more like wielding a razor-sharp greatblade.

The giant bear’s body was still hurtling forward in mid-air, but its head was no longer attached to its neck.

That furry bear head detached from its shoulders, tumbled several times through the air, and then rolled toward the edge of the podium with a wet thud, thud, thud, splattering dark red liquid along the floorboards. It rolled past the front row desks, across the aisle, and finally came to a halt only after colliding against the steps of the podium. The bear’s eyes remained wide and round, its mouth agape, frozen in its lunging posture.

Every sound in the classroom vanished in that single second.

The classroom that had been in an uproar moments ago was now as silent as a tomb.

Griping her pointer, Zhao Lu stood to one side of the podium, her face as cold as an ice block.

She furrowed her brows, just about to speak and explain, when she suddenly clamped a hand over her mouth, her eyes widening into saucers.

The headless bear body had not even crashed to the floor when it began violently convulsing in mid-air. Its fur withered, shriveled, and blackened at a speed visible to the naked eye, as if something from within had drained every drop of its moisture. The muscles of the bear collapsed, the skeleton crumbled to powder, and finally, the entire body reduced to a cloud of black ash, rustling down onto the floor without leaving even a scrap behind.

Behind the bear’s form, a fair, slender palm was revealed.

That palm had pierced straight through the back of the bear’s torso, its five fingers splayed slightly, while a wisp of dissipating black energy lingered within her grip. The owner of the hand was entirely expressionless, clad in a white top and a white dress, long hair cascading down the sides of her cheeks, her gaze as calm as stagnant water.

It was Xiaoqi.

No one saw when she had moved; no one saw how she had struck. It was as if she had been standing there all along, and everyone had simply failed to notice her.

She withdrew her hand, black flames erupting over her skin to incinerate every speck of filth on her palm. She clapped her hands and returned to her seat.

Every single student in Class Seven turned pale. Not as a figure of speech, but genuinely, physically pale—the faces of several aberrations, originally greenish-gray, faded directly to an ashen white, looking worse than when they had died.

Everything that had just transpired exceeded everyone’s wildest imaginations. The homeroom teacher stepping in to maintain classroom discipline was predictable, but who could have imagined she would execute him on the spot?

And Xiaoqi was even more exaggerated; her actions were of an extremely vile nature! In the middle of class, she had not only struck a classmate, she had actually devoured Zhao Dayong.

No fratricide within the classroom, and absolutely no devouring of fellow aberrations—these were the two ironclad rules of Huangquan Vocational Institute, and violating them meant immediate expulsion. Yet Xiaoqi had so openly devoured Zhao Dayong right in front of everyone without so much as blinking an eye.

Covering her mouth, a sour surge rose in Zhao Lu’s throat. She took two deep breaths, forcefully suppressing the wave of nausea.

Clearing her throat, her voice remained relatively steady: “This is our new transfer student, Jiang Xiaoyu. Everyone, please welcome him.”

The classroom fell silent for two seconds, and then applause erupted.

The applause was uniform, neat, and resounding, as if it had been rehearsed. Every student clapped with all their might, looking as though they wished to shatter their own hands. Those who had shouted the loudest earlier were now clapping the hardest. The one who had demanded the legs slammed his desk even louder than before, only this time it wasn’t to stir up trouble, but to save his own skin.

Standing on the podium, Jiang Xiaoyu was utterly bewildered.

With his poor vision, he had only caught the rough outline of what had just occurred: a big guy ran forward, lost his shoe mid-sprint, Xiaoqi picked up the shoe for him and asked him not to make things hard for her cousin, and the big guy was so touched that he obediently went back to his seat.

My cousin truly is the best, but there was no need for that, cousin. Your brother was just getting ready to kill the chicken to warn the monkeys, you know? Oh well, having my thunder stolen by my own sister doesn’t matter.

At that moment, Xiaoqi bent down and picked up the bear’s head. The bear head looked exceptionally large in her hands, a whole circle bigger than her face, furry and dripping with dark red liquid.

“Teacher, do you want it?”

Her tone was exceptionally calm and serious, like asking: “Teacher, would you like an apple?”

The corner of Zhao Lu’s mouth twitched.

“I don’t,” she said.

Xiaoqi nodded in understanding. Then, right before the entire class, she plunged her small hand straight into the bear’s head. The head withered, shriveled, and reduced to ash in the exact same manner, rustling down onto the floorboards of the podium. Xiaoqi dusted the ash from her hands, turned around, and walked back to her seat, sitting perfectly upright as if nothing had ever happened.

A wave of suppressed retching sounded throughout the classroom. Several students covered their mouths, their shoulders heaving up and down. It wasn’t that they had never seen their own kind being devoured, but devouring someone so casually, so naturally, like eating a snack—this was truly their first time witnessing it.

Right at that moment, Jiang Xiaoyu spoke up: “Even if it’s branded, it’s still pre-owned. Cousin, throw it back to him quickly. I’ve got several collector-grade pairs of Air Jordans; I’ll bring you a pair next time I come.”

The entire room broke into an uproar.
