Join the ServerHe knew her temper all too well. When she said, “Roll to the second row,” it was best to roll immediately. If he dared to utter a single word of defiance, the next second wouldn’t be about rolling to the second row—it would be rolling to the infirmary to spend the next three months.
But letting her kick him out of his seat just like that was absolutely impossible.
As an S-rank space-type assassin, he was among the top three experts in the entire institute. If he were driven off by a single sentence in front of the whole class, how would he ever be able to hold his head high in Class Seven again?
He shifted his target to Teacher Zhao Lu.
Xu Tian stood up, a pitiful, aggrieved expression on his face. His tone was no longer as aggressive as usual, instead carrying a note of logical reasoning: “Teacher Zhao Lu, this arrangement is quite a violation of the rules, isn’t it?”
Zhao Lu arched an eyebrow, saying nothing, waiting for him to continue.
Xu Tian cleared his throat. “Look, Xiaoqi is in the Geometry Squad, and I’m in the Algebra Squad. We both belong to the Math Squad. Everyone in our rows is a Math Squad student. The custom of sitting by squad row for easy management is a rule that has been established by the school.”
He paused, pointing a finger at Sisi. “Since Jiang Xiaoyu is the new leader of the Foreign Language Squad, logically, he should sit in Sisi’s row. It doesn’t make sense for a Foreign Language Squad leader to occupy a seat in the Math Squad.”
His argument was sound and well-structured; even a few students watching the spectacle couldn’t help but nod in agreement.
Xu Tian wasn’t just a brute who knew how to fight; he was sharp. He knew how to use the rules as a weapon.
Zhao Lu opened her mouth, but for a moment, she couldn’t find a reason to refute him.
She had been too focused on making sure Jiang Xiaoyu could sit near Xiaoqi for the sake of looking after him, forgetting the rule about squads sitting in designated rows. It was the standard across the entire Huangquan Vocational Institute. No matter how much of a lead teacher she was, she couldn’t defy the regulations of the entire school.
The situation reached a stalemate.
Zhao Lu’s pointer tapped rhythmically against her palm, her brows knitted together into a knot.
Xu Tian stood by his seat, looking innocent as he waited, the corners of his mouth curling slightly, as if to say—You see? It’s not that I won’t let him, it’s that the rules won’t allow it.
Just then, a small, squeaky voice broke the silence.
“Squad leader, you can sit in my spot.”
It was Sisi, the shy little aberration sitting at the far left of the front row.
She stumbled against the table leg as she stood up, nearly knocking her textbooks to the floor. She steadied them, blushing as she said, “Squad leader, you take my seat, and I’ll just move back one row.”
Jiang Xiaoyu waved his hand, signaling for Sisi to sit back down.
He squinted ahead—he really couldn’t see anything clearly, just blurry shadows. But he could roughly distinguish the layout: the front rows were crowded, while the back rows had plenty of empty spots. He couldn’t tell which row belonged to the Foreign Language Squad, but he could at least find an empty chair in the back.
He turned toward Zhao Lu and bowed.
“Teacher,” he said sincerely, “I understand now. So these seats represent grades. The further forward, the more talented the student; the further back, the more lackluster. One has to fight their way forward row by row based on strength, right?”
Zhao Lu nodded.
Jiang Xiaoyu grinned. “I’m new here, so my grades must be the worst. Sitting in the back row is appropriate. Once I’ve mastered foreign languages, I’ll overtake them one by one. Competing with my squad mates row by row—that’s only fair.”
Zhao Lu looked at him, a flicker of appreciation in her eyes.
Humble, composed, not using his background to strong-arm others out of their seats, willing to follow the rules, and planning to climb the ladder through his own effort—a young person with this kind of character was rare even among the living, let alone in an aberration school where the strong preyed on the weak.
“Humble and disciplined. A good seed.” Zhao Lu nodded, her tone carrying genuine admiration. “Go sit at the back of the Foreign Language Squad for now, we can discuss the rest later.”
Jiang Xiaoyu bowed again, then squinted as he felt his way toward the back of the classroom.
He walked cautiously, trying to identify which row was the Foreign Language Squad, nearly wandering into the Sports Squad’s territory before a Foreign Language aberration beckoned him over, whispering, “Squad leader, over here, over here.” He finally found his path.
Just as he reached the back row and prepared to set his backpack down—
Xiaoqi stood up.
The entire class’s focus snapped from Jiang Xiaoyu back to Xiaoqi. She stood there, in her white dress, her expression calm, as if she had just made an insignificant decision.
“I’m going to the Foreign Language Squad, too,” she said. Her voice wasn’t loud, but every word dropped clearly into everyone’s ears. “From today on, I am leaving the Geometry Squad, and I will no longer serve as the Math Squad leader.”
The classroom went dead silent for three whole seconds.
Then, it erupted.
“Holy shit!!”
“Xiaoqi-daren is quitting the Math Squad???”
“She’s not the leader anymore? The sky over the Math Squad has fallen!!”
“If Xiaoqi leaves the Geometry Squad, can it even be called ‘Space Ghost-Kill’ anymore??”
The entire Class Seven was thrown into utter chaos.
Several students from the Math Squad turned pale with anxiety; Xiaoqi was the squad’s anchor, and as long as she was around, the Math Squad was the most untouchable faction in the entire institute.
If she left, the Math Squad’s status would drop by at least half.
Xu Tian was even more dumbfounded, standing frozen in place as if someone had shoved a mouthful of flies down his throat.
He had gone through all that trouble citing school regulations just to keep Jiang Xiaoyu away from Xiaoqi.
Yet Xiaoqi was volunteering to leave on her own?
And she wanted to follow Jiang Xiaoyu to the Foreign Language Squad?
At that moment, the gaze he directed at Jiang Xiaoyu turned several degrees colder.
‘Jiang Xiaoyu, is it? You just wait!’
Zhao Lu buried her face in her hand, the expression on her face practically screaming, My little ancestors, spare me!
“No, Xiaoqi, this really won’t do.”
Her voice no longer carried the authority of a homeroom teacher, turning into a helpless plea.
“Our Foreign Language Department just offended the Sports Squad, and now you want me to offend the strongest faction, the Math Squad? Think about it from my perspective—time-based aberrations in Algebra combined with space-based aberrations in Geometry make them the strongest mathematical aberration cultivators in the entire country. If I offend them, I’ll have to carry self-defense artifacts just to walk from my office to the classroom from now on.”
Her words were half-joking, half-serious; the Math Squad truly was the strongest faction in the entire school.
A union between the time aberrations of the Algebra branch and the space aberrations of the Geometry branch was top-tier across all aberration schools nationwide.
Offending the Sports Squad meant getting ambushed a few times after class at most.
Offending the Math Squad meant you wouldn’t even know how you died.
Xiaoqi didn’t so much as bat an eyelash.
“I don’t care.”
Three simple words, delivered lightly, yet landing like three heavy iron weights on Zhao Lu’s chest.
Zhao Lu let out a mournful sigh, turning her gaze toward Jiang Xiaoyu, who was still fumbling for a seat in the back row, her eyes brimming with a plea for help.
She truly had no way to handle this little ancestor.
She couldn’t be killed, and she couldn’t be persuaded; there simply wasn’t a single person in the entire school capable of reigning Xiaoqi in.
Though Jiang Xiaoyu couldn’t see what was happening clearly, his hearing was sharp.
He had caught the general gist of Teacher Zhao Lu’s string of sighs and murmurs—his cousin wanted to transfer to the Foreign Language Squad with him, and Teacher Zhao Lu was about to burst into tears.
He placed his backpack onto the desk in the back row, turned around, and spoke in Xiaoqi’s direction.
“Cousin, stay in the Math Squad.”
Xiaoqi turned to look at him without speaking, tilting her head slightly, as if waiting for his reasoning.
Jiang Xiaoyu shoved his hands into his pockets and gave a light chuckle.
“Think about it. If someone picks a fight with me one day, staying in the Math Squad means you can call over a massive gang of people to back me up. If you come over to the Foreign Language Squad too and we’re both in the same group, won’t we have far fewer lackeys? It’s not a good deal.”
The moment those words landed, the Math Squad erupted instantly.
“What do you mean, ‘help you fight’?”
“Since when did we become your lackeys?!”
“You’re just a living human waiting to be eaten, aren’t you talking a bit too big?!”
“Who’s your lackey? Go on and say who!”
A chorus of curses and shouts rose one after another, and several high-power Math Squad students slammed their desks until they rattled loudly.
Yet despite all their cursing, not a single person dared to actually step out and throw a punch.
After all, Xiaoqi was standing right there, and the ashes from Zhao Dayong hadn’t even been swept clean from the floorboards yet.
Xu Tian didn’t curse; he leaned back against his chair, crossing his arms over his chest, a sneer hanging on his lips.
He was in no rush to lose his temper.
A mere living human acting so brazenly by borrowing Xiaoqi’s momentum was bound to run into a steel wall sooner or later.
When that time came, someone else would naturally deal with him without Xu Tian needing to lift a finger.
Xiaoqi, on the other hand, paid no mind to the cursing around her.
She tilted her head in thought, concluding that Jiang Xiaoyu’s reasoning made sense—staying in the Math Squad gave her more troops under her command, which would indeed make it far more convenient to rally helpers for her cousin in a fight.
She gave a nod.
“Alright, I’ll recruit more troops first.”
Then, she sat down, her movements so natural it was as if she had never uttered that string of explosive statements moments ago.
Watching this unfold, Zhao Lu’s eyes lit up like two glowing lanterns.
She looked at Jiang Xiaoyu, then back at Xiaoqi, a single thought revolving in her mind—was this cousin relationship really that rock-solid?
With just one sentence from Jiang Xiaoyu, Xiaoqi had listened obediently?
The most untouchable S-rank vengeful spirit in the entire world acted like an obedient kitten in front of her cousin?
If the principal heard about this, wouldn’t he go completely wild with joy?
In any case, the problem was solved.
Xiaoqi wasn’t leaving, meaning the Math Squad was preserved.
Jiang Xiaoyu was taking the back row, following the rules properly, leaving no room for anyone to complain.
Zhao Lu exhaled a long breath, her mood brightening considerably.
She turned, walked back to the podium, and tapped her teaching pointer against the blackboard twice.
“Class is in session!”
Sisi stood up on reflex, her voice thin and crisp: “All rise!”
The entire class stood up in unison, shouting in a ragged chorus: “Good morning, Teacher—”
Jiang Xiaoyu had just set his backpack down, taking his seat with a sigh.
The view from the back row was the worst in the entire classroom.
Even with normal vision, reading the blackboard from back here would take considerable effort.
Much less now, when he was completely blind with a 1,500-degree prescription, unable to even make out where the blackboard was, seeing only a dark, blurry rectangle hanging against the front wall.
