Chapter 39: Too Scared to Move

Holy shit, shit, shit, shit, shit!

A living person had suddenly turned into a snake.

Even if Song Jingyao knew the male lead had this setting, seeing it happen in real life was still terrifying.

And he was not supposed to know this secret.

How was he meant to react?

How could he act convincingly enough that Shen Xiuzhu would not notice and silence him forever?

Help.

This was an emergency.

Song Jingyao sat frozen in the passenger seat.

His expression had completely disappeared.

He looked like an idiot whose brain had stopped functioning.

To be fair, the snake was quite beautiful.

It had not transformed into the enormous python Song Jingyao had imagined.

It was not especially frightening in appearance.

But the shock of seeing a person suddenly turn into a snake was too much.

When Song Jingyao met those cold vertical pupils, a chill ran down his back.

A sharp sense of danger rose inside him.

Song Jingyao grabbed his hair and pretended to know nothing.

He muttered to himself, “That Shen Xiuzhu… why did he leave without saying anything?”

“And why did he leave a snake here as some prank?”

“Is he insane?”

As he spoke, he tried his best to look natural.

In reality, he was terrified.

He reached for the car door handle, intending to escape.

If he could leave this car, everything could still be treated as though he had seen nothing.

He would not know the male lead could turn into a snake.

He would remain an insignificant salted-fish cannon fodder character.

But the moment his hand touched the door handle, something cold wrapped around the wrist of his other hand, which was braced against the seat.

It was the snake’s tail.

Cold and covered in sharp scales.

The colour was beautiful, but the scales were hard and slightly prickly against his skin.

The snake was not gripping him with much force.

Yet it held him firmly in place.

The scales did not hurt, but their presence was impossible to ignore.

Then something even worse happened.

The snake spoke.

It was still that familiar voice.

Deep, calm, and so attractive it could make someone’s legs go weak.

“It’s me.”

Song Jingyao was forced to meet the snake boss’s vertical pupils.

He was close to breaking down.

Why did you have to speak?

How was he supposed to keep pretending now?

He was trying so hard to act stupid and behave as though he knew nothing.

It was not easy.

Big brother, stop testing his acting skills.

His acting was terrible.

Did Shen Xiuzhu even want to keep his secret hidden?

Song Jingyao stubbornly continued struggling.

With an awkward laugh, he said, “Hahaha, I-I must be hallucinating.”

“How could a snake possibly talk?”

He turned again, determined to open the car door.

He was committed to acting as though he could not see Shen Xiuzhu and intended to run away.

But reality proved that he had imagined things too beautifully.

He failed at the very first step.

He could not even open the door.

The slender, pointed snake tail around his wrist looked like a unique and beautiful bracelet.

It appeared easy to shake off.

But in reality, it was like an indestructible chain.

It held him tightly, and he could not break free at all.

The beautiful, dragon-like Kikuyu tree viper—more accurately, Shen Xiuzhu—spoke again.

Perhaps because of his changed form, even his voice carried a gloomy, cold undertone.

“Move again, and I’ll bite you.”

Song Jingyao instantly froze.

He obediently stopped moving.

It was not because he was cowardly.

No one could remain calm when facing a venomous snake.

Especially not when Shen Xiuzhu opened his mouth, flicked out his tongue, and revealed sharp fangs glowing with an eerie green light.

Fine.

You are venomous, so you make the rules.

Song Jingyao considered himself very good at reading the situation.

When Shen Xiuzhu saw that he no longer intended to escape and was obediently staying beside him, a faintly satisfied expression appeared on his face.

His eyes narrowed slightly.

The tip of his tail lifted unconsciously.

He was in a very good mood.

Then Shen Xiuzhu climbed upward along the seat.

He moved quickly, coiled himself into a ball, and settled on Song Jingyao’s lap.

Like a lazy cat automatically finding the most comfortable place for an afternoon nap.

Song Jingyao stared for a long time, unable to understand what this powerful figure was doing.

Was he suddenly tired?

Did he think Song Jingyao’s lap looked comfortable?

Still, Shen Xiuzhu did not seem to intend to bite or kill him.

That meant everything was fine.

As long as he survived, being used as a bed was not a serious issue.

And if someone really wanted to sleep on him, Song Jingyao was still getting the better deal.

Song Jingyao’s relaxed salted-fish mindset quickly took over.

Once he knew he was safe, he calmed down.

His fingers even began to itch with the urge to pet the snake.

The snake world’s handsome idol he had once seen online was now alive in front of him.

Not touching it would be an enormous waste.

Eventually, Song Jingyao could not resist.

He reached out and gently touched the beautiful scales.

They were hard, but not sharp enough to cut his hand.

They were not smooth either.

He could feel faint patterns beneath his fingertips.

It was entirely different from the satisfying softness of petting fluffy animals.

But it carried its own strange appeal.

Song Jingyao carefully stroked the snake.

He was secretly excited.

When he had researched Kikuyu tree vipers before, he had considered keeping one.

But obtaining and caring for such a venomous snake was troublesome, so he had abandoned the idea.

Now, that desire was suddenly fulfilled.

It felt like he had acquired a miniature dragon.

And this was not just any snake.

It was the future domineering CEO who would rule the business world.

Song Jingyao became even more smug.

Who else could possibly be as impressive as him?

Driven by curiosity, he examined Shen Xiuzhu’s scales everywhere.

He lifted the snake’s chin teasingly.

He played with the tip of its tail, wrapping it around his finger.

He lowered his head and studied the colours.

The gradient from dark to light was distinctive and beautiful.

Song Jingyao could not help pinching and playing with it.

Then he noticed one area where the scales were less hard.

They felt slightly soft, not completely firm.

He became curious.

Was there something special there?

He touched it again and found two nearby scales that were softer as well.

They seemed slightly raised, as though they were hiding something beneath them.

Song Jingyao had been spoiled since childhood.

He was never afraid of anything and always wanted to touch and test anything that interested him.

Even his fear of Shen Xiuzhu was not entirely accurate.

Had Shen Xiuzhu ever truly made him suffer?

The moment Shen Xiuzhu restrained his imposing aura, Song Jingyao’s bold and arrogant nature returned.

He practically wanted to dance on Shen Xiuzhu’s head.

Because Song Jingyao was attractive, proud, adorable, and sweet when he smiled, people tended to indulge him.

Just like now.

Shen Xiuzhu lay obediently on his lap, allowing him to touch and play with him.

He cooperated as a temporary little pet.

But the warm owner-and-pet atmosphere abruptly ended there.

Just as Song Jingyao fearlessly tried to find out what was beneath those scales and was about to poke them, the snake’s tail flicked away.

It avoided his hand.

Song Jingyao pouted after touching nothing.

He sighed in disappointment.

Shen Xiuzhu’s emotions were complicated, and his expression was strange.

In a moment of impulse, he had not tried hard to conceal his transformation.

He had allowed Song Jingyao to see his true form.

His anger had made him lose control.

He had almost given up on hiding it.

Song Jingyao had initially tried to escape, just as Shen Xiuzhu expected.

Any ordinary person would be frightened after seeing someone beside them suddenly turn into a venomous snake.

They would run away.

When Shen Xiuzhu saw Song Jingyao trying to leave, dark and violent emotions surged through him.

His gaze became cold and obsessive.

For one moment, he even thought that perhaps he should simply swallow Song Jingyao whole.

Then Song Jingyao would never be able to leave him.

But if he ate him, he would no longer be able to see Song Jingyao’s bright smile.

He could not touch his warm skin.

He could not hold him, kiss him, or do anything else.

Shen Xiuzhu could not bear it.

So he chose to wrap his tail around Song Jingyao’s wrist and prevent him from leaving.

He threatened to bite him if he tried to run.

But it was only a threat.

Shen Xiuzhu never wanted to see a wound on Song Jingyao’s body.

Especially not one he had caused himself.

Song Jingyao obediently stopped moving.

Shen Xiuzhu felt satisfied.

He climbed along Song Jingyao’s arm, curled around his lap, and automatically found a comfortable position.

He only wanted to be closer to Song Jingyao.

His head rested against Song Jingyao’s lower abdomen.

Only a thin layer of fabric separated them.

He could clearly feel Song Jingyao’s warmth.

It was comforting.

When he was in human form, Shen Xiuzhu could not act too intimately.

Song Jingyao liked opposing him, and Shen Xiuzhu himself did not dare cross the line too much.

He feared Song Jingyao would become suspicious or disgusted.

But after turning into a snake, it seemed like he could finally let go.

He clung to Song Jingyao without restraint.

Yet Shen Xiuzhu had never expected Song Jingyao to accept his snake form so quickly after the initial shock.

Song Jingyao looked full of curiosity.

He poked here and touched there, treating Shen Xiuzhu like some rare and fascinating creature.

There was no fear in his eyes.

Shen Xiuzhu could not understand it.

For the first time, he felt that he could not see through Song Jingyao at all.

Most people feared snakes.

Even those who did not fear snakes would be terrified if a living person suddenly turned into one.

They would panic and run away.

No matter what, no one should be this calm and casually playful.

When Song Jingyao stroked his scales, Shen Xiuzhu felt as though someone were smoothing his fur.

His entire body relaxed with pleasure.

He melted lazily against Song Jingyao, half-closing his eyes in enjoyment.

He did not have the attention to think about anything else.

Only when Song Jingyao’s hand was about to touch somewhere it should not did Shen Xiuzhu suddenly open his eyes in alarm.

He moved away quickly, almost clumsily.

If Shen Xiuzhu’s face had not been covered in scales, he would probably have blushed.

But Song Jingyao was still unwilling to give up.

He stretched out his sinful little hand again, eager to try.

Shen Xiuzhu moved away helplessly and looked at him.

“Aren’t you afraid of me?”

Song Jingyao missed again and pouted in disappointment.

He nodded.

“Of course I’m scared.”

“But you are good-looking, so you are easy on the eyes.”

“As long as you do not eat me, we can discuss anything.”

Eat him.

Shen Xiuzhu had actually thought about it before.

His eyes darkened, deep and unreadable.

Song Jingyao poked Shen Xiuzhu’s small head and laughed.

“Besides, with your size, even if you wanted to eat me, you could not.”

Shen Xiuzhu remained silent.

He did not tell Song Jingyao that he could freely change his body size.

Swallowing him whole would be easy.

But Shen Xiuzhu would never eat him like that.

No.

He did want to eat him.

Just in a different way.

From head to toe, without leaving any part untouched.

Song Jingyao had no idea what Shen Xiuzhu was thinking.

He still wanted to touch whatever was beneath those scales.

His curiosity had not been satisfied.

He lowered his head and leaned closer, narrowing his eyes as he examined it.

He poked at it and said, “Let me touch it once.”

“You will not lose a piece of flesh.”

“Could it be some fatal weakness that no one is allowed to touch?”

Shen Xiuzhu looked up.

They were so close that they nearly kissed.

His breathing stopped.

He instinctively moved back a little, then stopped.

Lowering his eyes, Shen Xiuzhu said calmly, “Yes.”

“It is a weakness.”

“Every man’s weakness.”

Song Jingyao blinked twice.

At first, he did not understand.

Then something clicked in his mind.

His face instantly turned red.

He was mortified.

He had been trying to touch that place the entire time.

Damn it.

That was far too obscene.

With nowhere to hide, he covered his face with both hands like an ostrich.

His head practically steamed with embarrassment.

What stupid things had he been doing?

Seeing him like that, Shen Xiuzhu tilted his head and could not stop himself from laughing softly.

All his bad mood disappeared.

Once he calmed down, he knew Song Jingyao could not possibly have that kind of relationship with Pei Shen.

He had only become jealous because he could not tolerate Song Jingyao having secrets that he did not know.

Shen Xiuzhu raised his head and rubbed it against the back of Song Jingyao’s hand.

“Let’s go home.”

“To my home.”

Song Jingyao froze.

He peeked through his fingers, confused.

“We are not going to the company?”

Shen Xiuzhu shook his head.

For once, he was openly willful.

“No.”

He had finally revealed his secret completely to Song Jingyao.

His mood was exceptionally good.

He was even thrilled.

Why would he go back to work?

All he wanted was to bring Song Jingyao back to his nest, mark him, and announce to the whole world—

This person is mine.
