Join the ServerThe massive insect picked out these small creatures, chewing them carefully and repeatedly for a while. However, she quickly found them somewhat bland and uninteresting.
While these beings were not the same species as humans, in terms of average physical and intellectual strength, there was little distinction. Their appearances might have differed slightly, but this did not affect the massive insect’s classification of them.
At least, in the massive insect’s eyes, she hardly bothered with such classifications for her food. Just as rice remained rice, whether it was premium or inferior, its fundamental essence as rice remained unchanged.
Yet, the massive insect had no inclination to categorize her food with such meticulousness.
Compared to the vastness of various celestial bodies, these minuscule creatures were, at best, merely rich seasonings.
Under the relentless sweep of the massive insect and her swarm, a significant portion of the nebula had been utterly devastated. However, the massive insect suddenly realized her appetite was nearing a peculiar limit.
It was not a limit of her stomach, but of her reproductive capacity.
New children were about to be born.
Upon this realization, the massive insect swiftly commanded her current brood to gorge themselves immediately and drag away all the edible materials they could carry. Receiving this order, the young insects, previously engrossed in their play, instantly focused. They ceased toying with their food and began to act with ferocious decisiveness. In less than a week, another vast region of the nebula was ravaged.
After calculating and inventorying the resources her children had gathered, along with her own carrying capacity, the massive insect glanced at the fragmented, nearly empty nebula. Without a moment’s hesitation, she quickly ordered her children to follow her back into the depths of the Cosmic Desert at their fastest speed.
For the humans clinging to life in the small, remaining fragment of that region, it felt like a miracle from the heavens. Just as they watched their homes and their entire world seemingly devoured by these monsters, the creatures vanished without a trace, as if struck by a sudden surge of mercy. Had it not been for the scarred landscape and fractured sky, the survivors might have believed it was nothing more than a long, drawn-out nightmare.
Now, the dream was over, and life, inevitably, had to continue.
In the Cosmic Desert, the massive insect returned with her children, carrying colossal amounts of resources. Gazing at the serene and peaceful nest before her, which had once been empty, she felt a sense of contentment. With the immense pile of food they had brought back, she could finally settle down for a while.
In truth, the massive insect disliked constantly moving. First, she had to transport her children over such vast distances, then traverse up and down, all over cosmic space, potentially encountering human attacks. Frankly, it was exhausting.
But there was no alternative. Who, other than for food and their children, would willingly endure such hardship?
After the massive insect devoured a considerable number of human souls, combined with the portion her children fed back to her, countless human thoughts converged in a specific area of her mind, forming something akin to a societal worldview. If the massive insect were merely human, possessing such a monumental volume of knowledge, she would undoubtedly be a sociologist.
This was the massive insect’s self-defined classification of her knowledge within the human world, a definition she idly set for herself when bored, ultimately holding no real significance.
If she were truly to immerse herself in human society, she felt she could effortlessly claim titles like scientist, engineer, tactical master, or weapons master.
At this thought, the massive insect couldn’t help but feel a pang of sorrow for the exceedingly brief lives of humans. This emotion, in the human world, was apparently called ‘pity.’ Yet, pity itself was a highly contentious subject even among humans; their diverse perspectives often led to arguments, ranging from verbal attacks to full-blown wars.
‘How superfluous,’ was the massive insect’s sole comment on the matter.
After returning to the depths of the Cosmic Desert, she slowly consumed her food, maintaining her internal energy reserves, and to alleviate her boredom, she concurrently observed things related to the human world.
It was undeniable that humans excelled at entertainment above all else. Was it because their lives were so short that they yearned to live more joyfully?
From human love stories to national righteousness, heroism, and various science fiction plots, some narratives indeed had real-world references. However, most were simply products of their idle minds, conjured from thin air.
Their imagination was truly boundless. As the massive insect continued to browse, she suddenly noticed a game that existed in the memories of most humans.
“Annon Continent?”
The prevalence of information related to this game in the vast majority of human memories piqued the massive insect’s profound curiosity.
‘It seems quite enjoyable.’
The massive insect, of course, held no interest in games where humans manipulated controllers in front of small display screens. After continuous analysis, she discovered that this particular game seemed to be somehow connected to deeper dimensions of the Quantum World.
“How interesting. Although it’s an officially released game by the Empire, the memories of Imperial soldiers contain no clear, explicit information about it. Important clues are vague. Do even the Imperial soldiers not know who released this game?”
Given its connection to the Quantum World and how deeply hidden it was, it likely contained information pertinent to the Empire’s research into that realm. The massive insect herself was very curious about what lay in the depths of the Quantum World.
Since she was currently idle and relatively safe in the Cosmic Desert, especially with her children guarding the vicinity, the massive insect felt she could relax as much as possible.
Thus, the massive insect decided to investigate this game world.
As for how to enter this game world, the massive insect spent a long time sifting through the pile of food she had brought back. Eventually, she found a few game consoles, which she promptly swallowed and meticulously analyzed.
“Indeed, I was right. Despite being very deeply hidden, this game console truly contains technology for entering the deep Quantum World.”
What was originally technology operating at an Imperial military level had now been simplified into such rudimentary game consoles and released en masse across almost the entire universe. If this device had no connection to Quantum World research and was merely for entertainment, the massive insect would not believe it for a second.
