As Feimeier delved deeper into this world, she began to question her own assumptions with increasing frequency. The sensory experience was simply too real; Feimeier even suspected it wasn’t a fabricated space at all.
Instead, she believed it was a truly existing continent, perhaps created through some unknown means or buried deeper within the quantum realm.
But if that were the case, how could a soul pass through such severely distorted Quantum Channels, arrive in this world, and still possess a physical body?
And if a physical body sustained damage in this world, what impact would that have on the soul?
Pondering this, the massive insect began to attempt the physical termination of her current body.
The process was not complicated. By forcibly halting her own heartbeat, Feimeier quickly felt a suffocating, dizzying chill spread through her limbs.
Before long, Feimeier collapsed to the ground.
From the player panel, her health had completely dropped to zero. The massive insect’s consciousness registered a sudden darkness, and then, as the world slowly brightened again, she opened her eyes to behold a remarkably prosperous city.
“Hey, brother, look! A newbie girl just arrived over there!”
“A top-tier mature woman! And with that noble lady’s long, straight black hair!”
“What do you say? Want to go try to pick her up? She looks like she just logged in and got taken out by a wild monster right away. She wouldn’t be walking directly out of the revival point otherwise. This is our chance, brothers.”
“I think you have a point. I’ll go first.”
“Hey, wait for me!”
After Feimeier stood still for a moment, observing her surroundings, she quickly noticed that many eyes were fixed on her. Most of these gazes originated from those who appeared to be male.
A very small number of glances might have come from females, carrying what felt like—jealousy.
It was common knowledge that human genetic engineering had reached a state of near perfection. As long as the parents desired it, their children were guaranteed to be handsome men and beautiful women.
However, a minority of conservatives insisted on not genetically modifying their children. In such an environment, vast differences in appearance often led to psychological imbalances in some individuals.
Yet, one aspect of this game was hard to accept: the issue of true appearance. Since souls entered the game world, physical modifications in the outside world did not alter the soul’s essence.
Therefore, what was displayed in the game was still the soul’s most original state. The difference between one’s real-world appearance and in-game appearance was often quite significant.
Initially, people were reluctant, but with the passage of time, everyone realized that ugly was pretty much ugly, and what truly mattered was the game’s enjoyment. So, they gradually became indifferent.
Still, naturally beautiful girls or handsome boys often garnered more attention in the game, and this was one of the reasons Feimeier was being stared at.
Feimeier wasn’t entirely sure what her own appearance was like, only that it closely resembled a human.
However, after continuously refusing invitations from several small teams, Feimeier gradually realized that her appearance was likely considered top-tier in this game world.
“How troublesome,” Feimeier mumbled. Originally, she had only wanted to test what would happen if her physical body died in this world.
She discovered that her continental body truly returned to the nearest revival point, just like any other ordinary player. Feimeier had already learned this information from those human memories.
In other words, she had now wasted a little time experimenting on already known information, and had also attracted a great deal of trouble.
Just as Feimeier was about to shake off this swarm of flies, a burly swordsman suddenly stepped out from the crowd.
“Miss, these people seem to be bothering you greatly. Allow me to drive them away.”
Feimeier glanced at the man. He was a player, and the level displayed above his head seemed quite high. She nodded, then, taking advantage of his distraction of the large group of ‘flies’ behind her, she indifferently left the gathering spot near the revival point.
She didn’t even offer the swordsman a word of thanks.
After leaving the gathering spot, Feimeier was momentarily unsure what to do. She simply opened the player system and scrolled through the map.
The deeper she scrolled, the more astonished Feimeier became. The map had no end. What did this imply? If this were truly a material world, its sheer size would be terrifying.
By surface area, it would be larger than even a supergiant star. She estimated it would take her an entire lifetime to explore it all!
But that was clearly impossible. Where would this world get a landmass spanning over a billion light-years?
This information, at the very least, indirectly proved that this was unlikely to be a material world—at least, not the material world Feimeier herself inhabited.
However, the information was still insufficient. For today, she decided, this would suffice.
Though the massive insect could confirm that this entity’s location was beyond the Universal Empire’s control, she even began to boldly speculate that the entity capable of controlling these souls might be hidden deep within the quantum abyss.
Despite the game being nominally developed by the Universal Empire, the massive insect had only made a few rounds of observation before realizing that the game’s true owner was likely not the Empire at all.
Having confirmed this, the massive insect slowly brought up the player system and chose to exit the game.
As Feimeier tapped her finger, her body instantly vanished from this world.
The mental energy swiftly retreated from the quantum abyss. After a brief period of dizziness, the mental energy the massive insect had released returned to the material world. Upon reclaiming this mental force, the massive insect quickly isolated and preserved this small portion.
Although she didn’t know if it would be useful, this particular fragment of mental energy might have already been observed. Even if the observer wasn’t the Universal Empire, it made the massive insect feel very uncomfortable.
Shifting her attention back to her own world, the massive insect suddenly felt a touch of boredom.
Her children were currently in a low-energy state, quietly curled together, forming a defensive posture around her. Her new children were still gestating, awaiting their birth.
