Chapter 6: The Awakening of the Brood

As the massive insect, a leisurely predator, floated among the various celestial bodies in the cosmos, billions of mental entities instantaneously sent her a message.

Mother!

These billions of mental entities repeated the same message incessantly, making it clear to the massive insect the true identity of the message’s senders.

“Oh, it seems my children have begun to grow. It’s time for the next round of feasting!”

The massive insect, overjoyed, was about to turn and fly towards those two planets. However, a rather large asteroid appeared before her, looking quite delicious.

After a moment of internal debate, the massive insect wrapped one of her smaller tentacles around the asteroid, bringing it along as she continued her flight.

An extremely bizarre scene was unfolding on those two planets. They seemed to have shrunk by an entire circle, their surfaces no longer possessing their former smoothness.

Instead, they appeared incredibly rough. Upon closer inspection, one would realize that these coarse bumps were, in fact, alive.

Each tiny bump was a mobile point, and these dense points scurried ceaselessly across the planetary surfaces. Beneath them, similar entities seemed to be slowly wriggling.

The humans on the ground, of course, could not identify these creatures, but the massive insect knew precisely what they were.

These were her children, her only companions throughout countless billions of solitary years.

Illuminated by the star at the center of the system, the massive insect spotted the active forms of her children from afar. She couldn’t help but accelerate her glide, reaching her offspring at tremendous speed.

Meanwhile, on the other side, all observers had already grown alarmed when the two planets, vital for material production, suddenly transformed into such a grotesque state.

When they magnified the image and discerned the details on the planets’ surfaces, the sight sent shivers down their spines.

“Th-th-this! Report to the station chief immediately!”

Just as the Prime Minister was discussing how to best guide Odinxis, the observation post commander burst through the conference room door, rushing in frantically.

“What are you doing! Can’t you see we’re discussing important matters here?!”

The Prime Minister, his speech abruptly interrupted, angrily reprimanded the station chief who had just barged in. However, the station chief paid no mind to the Prime Minister’s attitude, instead slapping a new video onto the display in the hall.

“…”

Everyone was stunned once more. They simply couldn’t believe what their eyes had just witnessed.

“These two planets are doomed! While I don’t know what these monsters are, their invasiveness is extreme! They’ve completely devoured both planets!”

“We must immediately dispatch the defense legion to intercept this damned horde of monsters! Otherwise, they’ll drift along the gravitational pull straight to our planet.

“At that point, the cost of cleaning them up would be countless times greater than engaging them now!”

Including the Prime Minister, everyone’s faces had turned exceptionally grim.

They knew, of course, that their prosperity on the fringe was entirely due to the abundant High-Energy Crystals produced within that mining planet.

These crystals generated extremely high profits for the entire star system. If that mining planet were lost, they would only be able to rely on the two other planets for ordinary mechanical processing and tourism on their home world.

However, all these endeavors would require time.

These suddenly appearing cosmic beings had completely disrupted the Prime Minister’s plans!

What was more, they had just watched a video of these insects brutally slaughtering humans.

The thought that such monsters could devour two entire planets, combined with the station chief’s warning, raised a crucial question: if these creatures truly drifted to their planet via gravity, could the defense legion even hold them off?

The Prime Minister, trembling slightly, stood up and waved his hand, signaling for the station chief to withdraw.

The station chief, sensing the peculiar atmosphere in the hall, wisely departed.

After he left, the previously heated atmosphere in the hall was doused as if by a bucket of cold water.

The Prime Minister surveyed everyone around him, then silently typed several proposals into the screen on his desk.

1. Apply to the Alliance for protection.

2. Hold out stubbornly.

Upon seeing these two options, everyone silently chose the first one.

They had no other recourse. No one believed their army had the strength to resist a swarm of cosmic beings the size of two planets. At this moment, they could only confess the truth to Odinxis and hope for leniency.

The Prime Minister watched the endlessly looping images in the hall with despair, then packaged and sent them to Alliance Central, along with some explanations and a letter of apology.

In the starry sky, the massive insect arrived among her children, observing their robust bodies and vibrant spirits.

“Excellent, full of vigor.”

The massive insect swayed a tentacle with pleasure, then brought the asteroid she had been dragging to her mouth and took a bite.

[Hungry!]

Hearing her children’s cry, the massive insect paused, then hesitantly broke the asteroid in her hand in half and offered it to the children on the two planets.

“Don’t rush, my children. Delicious food is right before your eyes. Follow me, let us go ‘hunting.'”

Under their mother’s guidance, all the children’s gazes simultaneously turned to the two colossal planets floating before them.

[Hunt, hunt!]

The massive insect was immensely pleased with her children’s reaction. She then extended several tentacles, laying them upon the surfaces of the two planets that had now been utterly transformed into her children’s nest.

“Come, my dear children, I shall take you to the hunting grounds!”

Upon receiving the command, all the insects scurried up their mother’s tentacles onto her body. They retracted their sharp claws and offensive organs, clinging obediently to their mother’s form.

Immediately, the massive insect, already the size of a planet, visibly swelled. She then laboriously propelled her body, slowly moving towards the two planets teeming with incredibly rich life energy.

The observers on the ground, monitoring this dynamic, instantly erupted into chaos. They had previously speculated that the colossal cosmic being and the suddenly appearing smaller cosmic beings that devoured the two planets might have some special connection.

However, they never imagined that the larger creature would automatically carry these smaller cosmic beings and fly towards their side of the ground!

“Quick, inform the Prime Minister and request the defense legion be dispatched!”

After relaying this desperate message, the observers could only remain in the observation room, watching the enemy’s next move.

‘I hope it’s still not too late,’ he prayed silently in his heart.
