“Lunch break?”
Qu Sinan lightly tapped her finger, and with her motion, a virtual screen emitting magical energy suddenly appeared in the air. Although the interface looked very sci-fi, Jiang Cha saw a pink-colored app on it.
“As expected, it really is the primary productive force.”
Jiang Cha smiled but acted as if she hadn’t seen anything.
“The current time is 1:21 PM. You should have already started work.”
“Oh! Work? What’s that? I never work. Research is my hobby. You understand, right, Sinan my dear?”
The woman called Morin still kept her unpleasant tone but immediately changed her expression the next moment and started cursing fiercely.
“Gàn Línliáng’s damn dog principal, it’s 2121 and they’re still using that shitty 996 work system. Who do they think they are? People’s entrepreneurs? This is supposed to be a blessing, a ‘research opportunity’ I ‘fought for’ for scientists! Bullshit! They’re just exploiting us! Exploiting, get it?”
Then in the next instant, she picked up her teacup and became elegant and refined. A delicate aura emanated from her, leaving Jiang Cha stunned and speechless.
“That’s why I’m brewing tea. It’s a display of elegance and restraint. You young, cute girls like Sinan wouldn’t understand.”
“Young…”
Jiang Cha carefully examined this woman, who the mechanical voice had recommended hospitalizing. If you ignored her dirty, oily lab coat and sloppy appearance, she looked like an ordinary red-haired high school beauty — with Western’s sharp facial features and deep blue eyes, but also the delicate skin of an Eastern person. Truly a perfect mixed-race look.
“Yes, yes, yes, after all, you’re already a 300-year-old auntie. Enough nonsense. I’m here to bring the new junior for a magic power test. Let’s get started. Later I have to take her to the dorm area, which doesn’t even have magic doors. It’s far.”
Qu Sinan rolled her eyes, not wanting to bother with this old woman who’d gone stir-crazy in the lab, and promptly used Jiang Cha to change the subject.
“Tsk, fine.”
Morin clicked her tongue, then shifted her gaze to Jiang Cha, staring at her moist eyes for a moment before smiling softly.
“This freshman’s qualities aren’t bad. Before even undergoing the second puberty, you’ve got this level of appearance. Come on, cute girl, follow me to test your magic power. I hope it’s high, or else you won’t pass the freshman baptism.”
“Freshman baptism… what’s that?”
Noticing Jiang Cha’s interest in the term, after following Morin, Jiang Cha looked up at her side face with a pure and innocent smile.
“It’s a bit complicated to explain.”
Morin couldn’t help but glance at Jiang Cha, locking eyes with her moist gaze.
Suddenly, with a speed Jiang Cha couldn’t react to, Morin grabbed her hand, pressed her against the nearby wall, lifted a leg to Jiang Cha’s abdomen, and gently stroked her cheek.
While Jiang Cha’s body started glowing faint blue and she desperately thought about how to get away, Morin suddenly released her, kissed her own index finger, and pressed it to Jiang Cha’s lips.
“This is the most basic thing, got it, my little baby?”
“I-I think I understand.”
Jiang Cha withdrew her magic power, showing just the right amount of panic, pretending to be suppressing a racing heart. Her eyes became even mistier.
Like a frightened little deer, adorable and lovable.
“Such a cute kid. Go in, the testing room is inside.”
Morin smiled and pushed Jiang Cha into a room made entirely of silver-white metal. Her fingers glowed blue as she operated a floating control panel and activated a loudspeaker.
“See that crystal ball? Fill it up. The electronic screen next to it will show your magic power.”
Her voice echoed through the vast silver-white room, making it a bit muffled.
As Jiang Cha entered, she immediately saw the huge crystal ball, larger than her head, cloudy and pure white, supported by a sci-fi style metal pillar. A blue-glowing crystal-like cable connected it to a futuristic electronic screen.
“What kind of mixed style is this…”
She had thought witches wouldn’t be associated with crystal balls, potions, and wands here like in her memory, but it seemed she was mistaken.
“Did I just set a flag?”
Without hesitation, Jiang Cha walked straight to the crystal ball and pulled out from the trash heap that piece of “slightly useful” common sense.
“I see, I completely understand now.”
She carefully placed her hand on the crystal ball. Suddenly, a suction force surprised her, making her tense as if about to spill water, but she quickly calmed down.
“Now release your magic power. Sweetie, give it your all~”
Morin clearly noticed Jiang Cha’s reaction, her voice holding a hint of amusement.
Jiang Cha ignored her, closed her eyes, and tried to mobilize her magic power.
The black-haired girl’s body gradually glowed faint blue, soft, weak, and gentle.
Suddenly, the blue light burst forth, illuminating the entire 500 square meter room, so dazzling that no one could see what was happening inside. Only a mechanical female voice could be heard:
“Magic power detection device activated. Starting receiver. Detecting magic power value. Value increasing: 100… 1000… 5000… 10000… 20000… 50000… Value stabilized. Subject: Jiang Cha. Total magic power: 68430. Rating: Great Witch. Data uploaded to the Grand Library. Thank you for using.”
At the end of the test, the mechanical female voice suddenly changed tone, sounding like a deliberately cute and playful old lady:
“Remember to give a good review, dear~”
“Huh?”
Jiang Cha voiced her confusion.
Is this how witches are? Mixing from fantasy to sci-fi to an online store style seamlessly? Or have humans 100 years from now gotten so bored that they need to show their sense of humor in such a serious setting?
Jiang Cha silently gave a one-star review on the screen.
“The baby is good, the kid likes it, sensitive skin friendly, five stars with installment payments, dear~.”
Then she quickly turned off the screen to avoid Morin seeing it.
“Not bad, just awakened and already with Great Witch level magic power. No wonder the principal personally assigned you as a transfer student.”
Morin’s voice came through the loudspeaker, neither surprised nor indifferent, with a slight teasing tone.
“Principal?”
Finally, some information Jiang Cha could latch onto about her background. Naturally, she wouldn’t miss this and quickly asked.
