Chapter 42: Good Night, Meng Yingxing

In the silent night, within a side hall of Wuyun Peak specifically used to receive the injured, the door to one of the rooms was suddenly and carefully pushed open, creating a small gap.

A slender, snow-white leg, so pale it seemed to glow in the darkness, extended out from the doorway first.
Then, the owner of that leg tiptoed her entire body out through the gap.

Xiu Qingcheng didn’t know how well Meng Yingxing slept, so she tried to be as quiet as possible when she left.

‘Good, I didn’t wake him.’

Xiu Qingcheng stood pressed against the door, letting out a slight sigh of relief.

Truthfully, she had no particular reason for sneaking out of the room.
It was just that something as major as suddenly turning into a human had happened, and she felt incredibly stifled in the room.
She simply wanted to come out for some fresh air.

Xiu Qingcheng looked around.
Outside the room was a long corridor of the side hall.
The night was deep and still, and it was unlikely anyone would be wandering around at this hour.

However, Xiu Qingcheng didn’t go far.
She just stood on the corridor right outside the room where Meng Yingxing was resting.
She folded her arms on the railing, leaned forward, and rested her chin upon them.

“These past few days have been more surreal than all my previous years combined.”

Xiu Qingcheng sighed, reflecting on the days since she had left the Divine Weapon Pavilion.

She had thought she was just taking on an ordinary disciple.
Now, thanks to this disciple, not only could she move, but she even had a human form.

It was just that this human form was female, a world of difference from her past life.

‘Which of my bros can understand this? I woke up and turned into a girl.’

“Going by that logic, isn’t the first thing you’re supposed to do after turning into a girl… to let your bros have a good time?”

Xiu Qingcheng’s eyes gazed into the distance, losing focus.
Her lips, thin as flower petals, opened and closed as she muttered to herself out of long-standing habit.

“That’s just too ridiculous! Besides, it’s not like I have any bros…”

Xiu Qingcheng fiercely tried to brainwash herself into accepting this female body.

“At least I have a human form now! If that foolish disciple gets into any trouble in the future, I can help him out. Otherwise, I’d be too much of a hands-off master.”

“Next time, I’ll try to see if I can eat. Now that I have a mouth, I should be able to eat, right?”

Amidst her quiet muttering, a strange figure suddenly entered her unfocused line of sight.

Xiu Qingcheng quickly reeled her wandering soul back from afar.
Her refocused gaze saw a familiar person walking across the square outside the hall.

‘Liu Chenxin? What is she doing wandering around outside so late?’ Xiu Qingcheng found it a bit odd.

Moreover, judging by Liu Chenxin’s direction, she seemed to be heading straight for the side hall where she was.

‘Don’t tell me she’s coming to see Meng Yingxing at this hour?’

Perhaps Xiu Qingcheng’s stare was too brazen, as Liu Chenxin, who was down below, seemed to sense it.
She paused her steps and looked up in Xiu Qingcheng’s direction.

Under the moonlight, the presence of the peerlessly beautiful girl was as enchanting as a demoness.

Liu Chenxin shook her head.
When she opened her eyes again, the girl who had been leaning on the railing was already gone.

“Did I see a ghost?”

Liu Chenxin held her chin with one hand, her eyes lowered as she muttered to herself.

“The spot where that woman was just now… wasn’t that right in front of Meng Yingxing’s room?”

She thought for a moment, then turned and began to walk away.

On the other side, Xiu Qingcheng had been scared out of her wits by Liu Chenxin’s sudden glance.

‘How did that woman spot me from there? Or is this a woman’s sixth sense?’

‘If I hadn’t turned back into a sword and hidden, she would have discovered me!’

Xiu Qingcheng was now hiding behind the narrow railing in the form of the Ting Tian Sword, her heart pounding with lingering fear.

‘I should just go back inside.’

Maintaining the form of the Ting Tian Sword, Xiu Qingcheng slipped back into Meng Yingxing’s room in a flash.

Then, she changed back into her human form and properly closed the door.

Xiu Qingcheng returned to Meng Yingxing’s side and sat on the edge of the bed.

She thought that Meng Yingxing might be very happy to see her in this form.

After all, Meng Yingxing had previously asked with great curiosity what she would look like if she became human.

At that time, Xiu Qingcheng had said she didn’t know.

Because she truly didn’t know.

But now, she knew.

However… Xiu Qingcheng didn’t want Meng Yingxing to know about this just yet.

It had nothing to do with Meng Yingxing.
It was her own issue—she still hadn’t managed to come to terms with a body so drastically different.

Xiu Qingcheng’s lips curled into a self-mocking smile.

It was strange, wasn’t it?
She was clearly an existence that had lived for so long, yet she still found herself agonizing over such a trivial matter.

“Mother…”

Just as Xiu Qingcheng was mocking herself, Meng Yingxing’s voice suddenly sounded in her ear.

It sent a jolt through Xiu Qingcheng.
She quickly turned her head to look at Meng Yingxing, thinking he had woken up.

But when she looked, she saw that Meng Yingxing was still talking in his sleep with his eyes closed.

“Honestly, this brat. He can’t even be peaceful in his sleep.”

Xiu Qingcheng wanted to flick Meng Yingxing.
Her slender, jade-like hand reached out, but in the end, she only poked the tip of her finger against his forehead, where he would feel it the least.

“Mother…”

Xiu Qingcheng’s action didn’t interrupt Meng Yingxing’s sleep-talking.
However, his voice was so soft that she couldn’t quite make out what he was saying.

‘What is this kid muttering about?’

After all, what one thinks about during the day, one dreams about at night.
Eager to find out what was on her disciple’s mind, Xiu Qingcheng’s curiosity flared.
She moved closer to Meng Yingxing, leaning down and tilting her head to try and hear his words clearly.

“Mother…”

The first thing she heard was Meng Yingxing calling for his mother.

‘Can a child who has never met his mother see her in his dreams?’

Xiu Qingcheng didn’t know, but she had no intention of disturbing the young man’s sweet dream, so she prepared to move away from him.

“Don’t go!”

Xiu Qingcheng never expected that just as she started to get up, Meng Yingxing would suddenly throw his arms out like an octopus, wrap them tightly around her back, and pull her fiercely into his embrace!

“Mother, don’t go—”

This time, Meng Yingxing’s sleepy murmur was very clear.

With their bodies pressed together, Xiu Qingcheng could feel her own heart pounding wildly from the shock, and she could also feel the scorching heat from the young man’s chest.

‘This damn disciple, what kind of fit is he throwing!’

Xiu Qingcheng’s eyes flew wide open as she tried to struggle free from Meng Yingxing’s arms.

‘Damn disciple, who’s your mother? Don’t just grab anyone and act like a mama’s boy!’

‘There’s a saying that whoever has milk is mother. Although I have them now, I am definitely not my damn disciple’s mother!’

Normally, Xiu Qingcheng should have played the part of a mother to soothe the heart of her disciple, who was trapped in a dream of needing affection.

But Xiu Qingcheng declared that she would do no such thing.

With some effort, Xiu Qingcheng managed to pull herself out of Meng Yingxing’s embrace.

But because her movements were so large, she saw Meng Yingxing groggily open his eyes.

However, this was within her expectations.

Meng Yingxing struggled to open his eyes, and through his blurry vision, he saw a girl with a cold expression.

“You—”

He had just uttered a single word when Xiu Qingcheng raised a hand as fair as suet jade and slapped it down on his head.

“Good night, Meng Yingxing.”

Meng Yingxing’s vision went black, and he was once again plunged into a sleep as deep as a baby’s.
