Chapter 26: A Picture of a Kind Master and a Filial Disciple

The moment Meng Yingxing stepped out of the Nanling Auction House, before his back foot had even crossed the threshold, the collar of his shirt was seized from behind.

“Junior-Brother-Meng-Ying-Xing?”

Meng Yingxing turned his head and saw Liu Chenxin’s delicate face.

But unlike usual, at this very moment, Liu Chenxin’s face was plastered with an extremely stiff smile.

Anyone could tell that Liu Chenxin was absolutely furious right now.

“Senior Sister.”

Meng Yingxing nodded at Liu Chenxin with a calm expression, looking as tranquil as could be.

Only Xiu Qingcheng knew that this boy, Meng Yingxing, already had cold sweat streaming down his back.

‘Master, Master, we’re done for, we completely forgot about Senior Sister Liu!’ Meng Yingxing felt a sense of impending doom and frantically sought help from Xiu Qingcheng.

‘I didn’t forget.’

Xiu Qingcheng, who was hard all over, would never admit that she had forgotten just like Meng Yingxing.

“You still have the nerve to call me Senior Sister! Do you have any idea what time it is? Hmm? Weren’t we supposed to meet at the restaurant after you were done with your business? Do you know how long I waited?”

Liu Chenxin placed her hands on her slender waist, gritting her teeth and forcing herself to speak to Meng Yingxing civilly.

Being stood up for so long, anyone else would have already flown into a rage. Only someone like Liu Chenxin could barely manage such strong emotional control.

“Senior Sister, there were reasons,” Meng Yingxing said, still maintaining a calm expression as if a mountain were collapsing before him, and pointed to the injuries on his arm.

Sure enough, the moment Liu Chenxin saw the injuries on Meng Yingxing, she immediately threw her anger to the back of her mind and hurriedly asked him what had happened.

Meng Yingxing briefly recounted the incident with the crooked shop.

However, he omitted the parts about Xiu Qingcheng and Li Mo, only saying that he had luckily escaped from the two villains.

Both the Ting Tian Sword and the Jiaoren were things that would bring disaster upon their possessors.

Upon hearing this, Liu Chenxin was so angry she stomped her foot and was about to go find the two villains Meng Yingxing spoke of to settle the score.

Meng Yingxing quickly stopped Liu Chenxin, telling her to forget it.

He couldn’t let Liu Chenxin know that Xiu Qingcheng had cut off the hands of those two villains. He wouldn’t know how to explain it.

Liu Chenxin was fuming, but she listened to Meng Yingxing and didn’t go looking for trouble with those two.

Afterward, Liu Chenxin confirmed that Meng Yingxing’s injuries were not serious before taking him back to the restaurant they had mentioned earlier.

The restaurant’s decor looked very luxurious, not a place ordinary people could afford. Just sitting there made Meng Yingxing feel as if he were on pins and needles.

As if sensing his discomfort, Liu Chenxin propped her chin on her hands and told him to relax, “Senior Sister can still afford this much. Just relax, order whatever you want to eat.”

Meng Yingxing opened the menu, which was heavy due to its ornate decorations, and scanned the dishes inside, ten lines at a time.

In truth, he didn’t take in a single word.

‘I want to eat this!’

Unlike Meng Yingxing, Xiu Qingcheng was not polite at all, pointing out exactly what she wanted to eat by name.

‘Master!’

Xiu Qingcheng paid her disciple no mind, ‘Only a fool wouldn’t eat a free meal!’

‘This one, this one, this one! And this one! I want them all!’ Xiu Qingcheng recited a string of dish names as if she were reading a nursery rhyme.

‘Master! You can’t even eat!’

Meng Yingxing tried to reason with Xiu Qingcheng.

‘Just because I can’t eat doesn’t mean I can’t order? I’m ordering for you! Eat more, look how short you are!’ Xiu Qingcheng said with righteous conviction.

Liu Chenxin, sitting opposite Meng Yingxing, looked up and saw him clutching his forehead with a strange expression.

“What’s wrong, Junior Brother?”

“It’s nothing,” Meng Yingxing looked up, pretending everything was normal, and began reciting the menu to Liu Chenxin based on Xiu Qingcheng’s list.

Of course, Meng Yingxing didn’t actually recite it exactly as Xiu Qingcheng had. He skipped over all the dish names he had never even heard of.

This naturally caused Xiu Qingcheng’s dissatisfaction.

“Alright, that’s it then,” Liu Chenxin finished ordering the dishes. The Meng Yingxing before her looked no different than before.

Only Meng Yingxing himself knew that Xiu Qingcheng was currently nagging incessantly in his ear.

‘Brat! You dare to disobey your Master’s words today! Will you be disowning your master and ancestors next!’

‘Wuwuwu, I’m so pitiful. The only disciple I have is disobedient!’

Meng Yingxing pinched the bridge of his nose.

Sometimes he felt that his master was a child. He didn’t know why she had so many desires for things she couldn’t even eat.

‘Aren’t Master’s worldly desires a bit too numerous?’

The restaurant was crowded and noisy.

When Meng Yingxing opened his eyes again, he realized Liu Chenxin was staring at him with a composed expression.

Meng Yingxing thought Liu Chenxin was about to say something. He waited for a good while before she finally spoke to him.

“Junior Brother Meng, I want to ask you something.”

Meng Yingxing nodded, “Senior Sister, feel free to ask.”

“Alright.”

Liu Chenxin smiled and asked, “Junior Brother Meng, have you ever heard the name… Lu Tianzhao?”

“Yes.”

Meng Yingxing nodded.

Hearing Meng Yingxing say he knew, Liu Chenxin looked as if she had been injected with a stimulant, sitting up a little straighter. “You know him?”

“Lu Tianzhao, the youngest Constellation of Stars-level genius in history, the number one sword saint in Jintian Jiuzhou. Of course, I know of such a famous figure.”

Hearing that Meng Yingxing was only saying things everyone knew, Liu Chenxin seemed to lose interest again, muttering in a voice too low for him to hear, “I thought you might know something more…”

Then, she continued speaking to Meng Yingxing with a lack of enthusiasm, “He vanished from the world fifteen years ago, his whereabouts unknown. I heard his last appearance was in our Tianfeng Sect. Do you think there’s any connection?”

“Perhaps.”

Meng Yingxing shook his head, noncommittal.

At this moment, the dishes they ordered arrived. Each dish was exquisitely presented, as delicate as a work of art. The rich aroma wafted into their nostrils, like a captivating little siren.

Gulp.

As soon as Meng Yingxing picked up his chopsticks, he heard the sound of someone swallowing saliva.

He looked up. Liu Chenxin was still propping up her head, lost in thought.

Then there was no need to guess who had swallowed.

‘These dishes… they look pretty good,’ Xiu Qingcheng spoke up at the right moment, her tone filled with longing. ‘I wonder if they taste good. If only I had a physical body… slurp.’

‘Hurry up and try them. Are they good?’

Meng Yingxing, of course, was going to eat. After Liu Chenxin started, he also picked up some food and brought it to his mouth, savoring it while describing the taste to Xiu Qingcheng in detail.

His words were a feast of color, aroma, and flavor, making Xiu Qingcheng’s mouth water.

However, perhaps because he was often teased by Xiu Qingcheng, Meng Yingxing now had the thought of teasing her back. After describing each dish, he would say to Xiu Qingcheng with mock pity:

“Too bad you can’t eat it, Master~”

Xiu Qingcheng, of course, couldn’t take it. Furious, she jolted violently on Meng Yingxing’s back!

Accompanied by the exaggerated movement, the whole of Meng Yingxing was uncontrollably slammed onto the table by Xiu Qingcheng.

“You damn disciple! You’re asking for it! Are you crazy!?”

Such a loving master and disciple, a picture of perfect harmony~
