Chapter 83: The Seekers of Truth in the Endless World

Why did the path of the Master of the Mage Tower ultimately fail?

In other words, why was her artificially created Arcane deity always stuck at the final step, unable to succeed?

The reason is simple. Really, really simple—even witches like Misa and Kelly, who know nothing about Arcane Magic, would understand.

“The Arcane school is a path that can lead to omniscience and omnipotence.”

That’s it.

This purely theoretical, purely materialistic school can never reach the ultimate truth of the multiverse because it only accommodates one of the two paths—materialism or idealism—and in doing so, it even discards the inherently idealistic property of magical power.

Arcane practitioners may be strong, but they can never achieve the original purpose of the school: “to explain all the mysteries of the multiverse.” Even the six major schools of magic individually cannot achieve this, and even the current archmages, building upon the foundations of all six schools, can only reach partial levels of omniscience and omnipotence.

Do you see the problem?

The Mage Tower Master’s research path aimed to create a god equivalent to an archmage who possesses omniscience and omnipotence in the Arcane school. But the Arcane school itself cannot reach that level; its upper limit is only at the Archmage rank.

Thus, the Mage Tower Master failed.

“But the Wisdom school can—at least it has the potential. It is a school with both idealistic and materialistic traits, possibly even more profound than the existing six schools.”

After a brief discussion, the Mage Tower Master directly opened her treasure vault, allowing Moxi and the others to explore freely. She had already regarded Jiang Cha as a peer capable of equally exploring the mysteries.

She was not a predecessor but a companion. Her research could become a foundation for Jiang Cha’s path; her knowledge could serve as nourishment for another magical school striving toward the ultimate truth.

For someone who is already dead, the inheritance of knowledge is trivial. The treasures in the vault, even if they had any effect, no longer mattered to her. What mattered now was understanding Jiang Cha’s path and whether the Wisdom school could lead to the ultimate truth.

When she was alive, the Mage Tower Master may not have been so noble, but now—after death, with her soul perhaps having been reincarnated countless times—she indeed demonstrated the purity of a seeker of truth.

“I see.”

After clearly understanding Jiang Cha’s mindset and why she and Mort were developing a new school, the Mage Tower Master nodded slightly, sighing softly. She did not know whether the Wisdom school would ultimately reach the end, but from Jiang Cha’s theory, it made logical sense.

Even disregarding that, from her perspective, the Wisdom school would likely develop into a prosperous magical school, providing a cornerstone for future seekers of truth.

“Then my suggestion—no, rather, my request.”

Her previously slightly seductive, mature-sisterly voice now sounded pure and fervent.

“Please, when you create the Wisdom deity, reference my theoretical results. They will surely help you.”

“And your name? Perhaps I can credit you as a co-creator in my future publications.”

Jiang Cha respectfully bowed to the air.

The Mage Tower Master had never appeared in person, only communicating through her voice, yet this did not prevent Jiang Cha from showing her utmost respect, performing the highest magical practitioner’s salute to this pure seeker.

“Name?”

The Mage Tower Master scratched her head in puzzlement.

Before Jiang Cha could finish her bow and raise her head, the Mage Tower Master had already appeared before her.

She was an extraordinarily beautiful dark elf, wearing a caster’s robe adorned with stars, with a full, alluring yet divine figure.

Death had taken many things—her friends, memories, soul, and magical power—but the one thing it hadn’t taken was her pursuit of truth.

“For a dead person, a name is meaningless. What matters is my research, which better represents my life, doesn’t it?”

She blinked, smiling.

“I will remember you, and swear it in the name of witches.”

Jiang Cha’s expression remained serious, even as her eyes welled with tears. She understood what was about to happen.

And just as she expected, the once-solid form of the dark elf was becoming increasingly transparent. A mysterious, azure Arcane energy emanated from her body, drifting and seeming to be guided by some force, gradually merging into Jiang Cha.

“Go, witch. In the name of Arcane, seek the ultimate truth of this multiverse. I, in the name of the Night Elf, bless you. Take my life’s work and explore the endless truth.”

“I will not fail your expectations.”

Jiang Cha saluted again.

This time, when she raised her head, the Mage Tower Master—the only archmage of the dark elf world, the Arcane master who tried to create an artificial deity—had completely disappeared from this world.

All that remained were dozens of magic books, some magical plants’ seeds, countless research notes, and a set of elf-style light armor long depleted of magic, symbols of her long life in this lonely universe.

“Success need not be mine, but benefit all future generations.”

To them, the one who ultimately understands the truth may not even be them; as long as the existence is proven, they are satisfied.

Just like the Mage Tower Master of this nameless tower: her research path failed, but her results could become the foundation for Jiang Cha to explore a more likely successful path.

This is life’s ultimate meaning.

“How about you?”

Xunxi returned to Jiang Cha after thoroughly raiding the tower, somewhat concerned.

This overwhelming method of knowledge transfer was not easy to handle—not only for the mental strain but also because the inherent magical contamination was no small issue.

“This archmage is kind. She sealed most of the knowledge herself to reduce my burden.”

Jiang Cha rubbed her throbbing temples, feeling this was ridiculous.

Why did so many disasters seem to befall her little brain recently? Study brings magical contamination, travel brings chaotic world rules, and now this archmage’s knowledge overload on top of everything. Ridiculous.

“I won’t take the reward from this exploration.”

“The greatest benefit is already here,” Jiang Cha said, pointing to her head, indicating her mind had received the reward—far beyond what Xunxi’s team obtained. According to their prior agreement, she could have only taken 20% of the total.

“That means I get a 50% discount on future tasks if your senior sister assigns me work,” Jiang Cha added lightly.

“That’s fine. Having Jiang Cha as such a handy ally, I’m sure we’ll rely on you again,” Xunxi said, showing the straightforward camaraderie typical of witches.
