Chapter 89: The Dead Play House

Strictly speaking, among all the schools Jiang Cha studied, the Necromancy school was the weakest.

This wasn’t reflected in her knowledge, but in her spell repertoire.

In the early stages, Necromancy really didn’t have many useful spells—or rather, the spells in this school had equivalents or even superior alternatives in other schools.

Moreover, the main early-game strength of Necromancy, its powerful undead creatures, couldn’t be contracted by her because she lacked the necessary resources.

So, if we were to categorize all the schools Jiang Cha studied into six corresponding types, the weakest would inevitably be Necromancy. Of course, this excluded Wisdom Magic.

But having a weak spell repertoire didn’t mean she couldn’t meet the most basic threshold for learning Necromancy—overcoming fear.

Yes, the main reason few young witches were willing to study Necromancy was actually very simple: the summoned undead…

Well, they were really a challenge to a witch’s aesthetic sense.

After all, high-end undead that could be considered visually acceptable to witches—like cute-style little girl figurine mummies, or the more handsome Dark Knights and Death Knights—were very expensive. Ordinary young witches couldn’t afford them, and Jiang Cha was no exception.

But her innate magic allowed her to bypass this hurdle entirely. In her three-neutral-state form, Cha Bao wasn’t afraid of any undead. In her eyes, an undead was simply a special life form composed of matter and soul.

After long enough practice, even without relying on her innate magic, she could gradually accept these strange little cuties.

However…

“Jiang Cha, Jiang Cha, let’s play undead house!”

Facing Violette’s pure yet hopeful gaze, Jiang Cha still hesitated.

“Pleeeease… Mephist rarely plays this game with me…”

Seeing the little girl’s pitiful expression, Jiang Cha’s heart softened, and she immediately agreed.

But once the game actually started, she finally understood why Mephist had such a stiff expression.

“Mommy, mommy~ today I ate lots of Death Power! Can you praise me?”

Anyone who saw an eight- or nine-year-old black-haired, black-eyed, angelically cute little girl addressing a huge, slightly bleeding, stitched-up, roughly 1.8–1.9 meters tall, 300–400-pound patchwork monster with a mechanical iron hook for a right hand, vacant eyes, and distorted features as “Mommy,” probably wouldn’t have a better expression than Jiang Cha or Mephist.

“That patchwork monster! Put your intestines back in!!!”

“So good, you’re truly mommy’s little darling.”

The patchwork monster should have had no vocal cords, but Violette’s had clearly been modified. Under the control of faint black magical threads, it emitted a gentle female voice.

Jiang Cha: “…”

Nope. Her worldview had been shaken.

“So… I’m the dad?”

The little girl’s expression froze. She glanced at the patchwork monster, then at the adorable little angel in front of her, not knowing how she had even asked the question.

“No! Jiang Cha is the big sister! The dad is this one!”

Violette clapped her hands, and suddenly another patchwork monster appeared behind her. This one was wrapped in white bandages, tied in an extremely suggestive way, barely covering key areas, exposing large swaths of pristine white skin.

Although the face was also wrapped in fine bandages, it was still clearly a very beautiful girl.

“This is… dad?”

Jiang Cha turned to Mephist and exchanged information through magic.

“Does Violette… have some gaps in her upbringing?”

Well, that’s normal. Compared to a patchwork monster as mom, she could still accept a figurine-mummy girl as dad.

Of course, witches reproduce asexually, so both “dad” and “mom” are female. In witch common sense, this is perfectly normal.

Jiang Cha rubbed her temples. Some of the common sense lingering in her mind was subtly useful, but most of it was unreliable and often caused minor misalignments with the witch worldview.

“Ah, whatever, let’s just play undead house. After all, Violette is a Necromantic Witch.”

Although Necromantic Witches are a branch of witches, their essence is closer to undead creatures. Even their internal magic converts into a mixture of Death Magic and normal magic.

While they may be exceptionally talented in Necromancy, they are relatively weaker in other schools, and their worldview can shift with their racial traits.

For a young one like Violette, born naturally as a Necromantic Witch, feeling no aversion to undead was completely normal. After all, a Necromantic Witch is still a witch, but fundamentally more akin to undead creatures.

“Seems like Jiang Cha really likes Violette?”

Jiang Cha played with the little one for an hour. When it was time for Violette’s studies, she sent her back.

Mephist walked up beside her and smiled.

“She really is a good child, aside from some subtle quirks in her worldview.”

Jiang Cha felt a bit thoughtful. Born with such a unique identity, what path would Violette’s future take? Could she live a normal witch’s life? Would she have a choice?

Shaking away the melancholy, Jiang Cha continued:

“I accepted the commission. I have time lately, so we can also practice the team coordination a bit.”

“That’s wonderful.”

“I also want to take Violette out to play. This is the first time I’ve seen her so eager to join activities… you know, Necromantic Witches tend to be a bit reclusive. She may seem cheerful, but she inherited some of that solitary nature. She rarely goes out or has friends.”

“I know, I know,” Jiang Cha patted her shoulder, comforting the senior who had fully slipped into the “good older sister” mindset.

“So I agreed. Letting such a cute little one continue a lonely life isn’t in line with witch principles. Even if we can’t change the Sage’s decision, taking her out is our sisterly duty, right?”

“I’m glad you understand.”

Mephist breathed a sigh of relief, patted her chest, and returned to her elegant, confident noblewoman demeanor.

“So, can we practice a little every Wednesday night?”

“Yeah. I’ll also study some more Spirit School magic books… anything I should pay special attention to?”
