Chapter 26: A Nun’s Unexpected Intervention

“Stop this at once, all of you!”

Lucia, clad in a nun’s habit and veiled, stood at the entrance of the Demon Hunter Guild.

In each hand, she gripped a gleaming silver gunblade, her eyes radiating a chilling killing intent that stifled the breath from everyone present.

Lucia had previously heard from Imeline and Attestor that the Demon Hunter Guild was hardly a reputable place; those who became civilian demon hunters either lacked the talent to join the three major organizations or were unruly individuals who operated in society’s gray areas. Consequently, Lucia rarely ventured near the guild.

However, Lovelenica had mentioned being a demon hunter during their mission the previous night, and Lucia, eager to find her, had decided to visit the guild today after her teacher granted her a day of rest.

To her surprise, upon arriving at the guild, Lucia witnessed a brawl in progress.

Among the combatants was none other than the young girl who had occupied Lucia’s thoughts.

‘Could she also be one of those ruffians?’

‘Truth be told, I don’t really know her well; we’ve only met once. It wouldn’t be surprising if her character were as unsavory as other demon hunters.’

‘After all, I don’t truly understand her…’

Though Lucia’s favorable impression of Lovelenica had diminished somewhat, she nonetheless quelled everyone in the hall with her potent killing intent.

After all, Lovelenica was merely a child, and with so many people ganging up on her, Lucia, as a nun, could hardly stand by idly.

As for Lovelenica, she was currently as agitated as an ant on a hot pan, utterly dumbfounded by Lucia’s unexpected appearance in such a place.

‘Given Lucia’s menacing demeanor, could she have discovered something?’

‘Has she uncovered that I’m not actually a demon hunter, and come to apprehend me? Or has she realized I’m a bloodkin, and sought me out to eliminate me?’

“You lot! What kind of skill does it take to bully a child!?”

Lucia immediately raised the gunblade in her right hand slightly, pointing it towards Scar-face.

“Sister! You must render justice for us!”

Unexpectedly, the moment Scar-face saw Lucia, he immediately dropped to his knees, sliding across the floor.

“Sister! This little b*tch caused trouble in the guild! She injured me and my brothers! Look at my hand, this little b*tch broke it!”

Scar-face lay prostrate on the ground, wailing towards Lucia while holding up his broken arm, presenting himself as a victim.

However, after his lamentations, Scar-face lowered his head, a triumphant, cruel grin spreading across his face.

While Scar-face harbored contempt for members of the other three major organizations, within the Royal City, they were still compelled to show respect to such individuals. These people possessed the authority to enforce sanctions with force, whereas he and his kind had no right to retaliate against them.

Scar-face now intended to exploit Lucia to punish Lovelenica.

Even though Scar-face and his men had initially verbally insulted Lovelenica and even attempted to assault the front desk lady, they were now the injured party. He had not only suffered a broken hand, but one of his comrades was also in critical condition, while Lovelenica remained entirely unscathed. By simply exaggerating their plight, Lucia would undoubtedly conclude that Lovelenica had instigated the conflict.

Scar-face conveniently omitted any mention of his own attempt to ambush and kill Lovelenica.

Lovelenica had merely disabled one of Scar-face’s arms, intending for him to release the front desk lady, yet Scar-face had contemplated nothing less than Lovelenica’s demise, even planning to desecrate her corpse afterwards.

It was only due to his failed ambush that his vile intentions remained concealed.

Lucia surveyed her surroundings. Lovelenica indeed held the two revolvers Lucia had seen before, a severed hand lay motionless on the floor, and beside it, another man had a greatsword impaling his shoulder, with crimson blood pooling around him. Yet, Lovelenica herself bore not a speck of dust.

Lucia’s favorable impression of Lovelenica plummeted further; it certainly appeared that Lovelenica had been the aggressor against Scar-face and his companions.

“Did you do all of this?”

Lucia turned her gaze to Lovelenica, but instead of pointing her gunblade, she merely inquired.

Despite having only met Lovelenica once and being unaware of her true nature, Lucia had developed a fondness for her based solely on their interaction that night.

Hence, Lucia still wished to ascertain precisely what Lovelenica had done.

Lovelenica, however, remained silent.

Clutching the revolvers in her hands, Lovelenica braced herself for Lucia’s attack. In Lovelenica’s estimation, Lucia had clearly come to demand answers, having undoubtedly discovered something that led her to seek Lovelenica out, and doing so with such palpable killing intent.

‘I’ll just have to find a way to fend off Lucia. Since she possesses regenerative abilities, it won’t matter if I’m a bit heavy-handed, as long as I don’t cripple her… Still, it’s truly frustrating that this identity of mine is about to be discarded after barely two days of use…’

With that thought, Lovelenica raised both revolvers, aiming them directly at Lucia.

“…I see.”

Witnessing Lovelenica’s actions, Lucia’s gaze immediately turned chilling.

Lovelenica’s combat stance clearly indicated that she was indeed the instigator, aiming her weapons at Lucia without offering even a single word of explanation.

‘My tone wasn’t even accusatory, yet she’s ready to fight me without even a response?’

‘What, then, was that shot you fired to protect me last night?’

‘And what about your praise and approval of me?’

Lucia positioned her two gunblades before her, adopting a ready stance for combat.

Tension instantly spiked within the Demon Hunter Guild; if these two were to clash here, it would undoubtedly result in significant damage.

“Wait, wait a moment! Sister!”

Just as Lovelenica was about to pull the trigger, the front desk lady suddenly stepped between them, halting both.

“Sister! This little girl was only fighting those men to protect me!”
