Chapter 49: A Collapsed Bed, A Shared Space, and a Demon’s Obsession

“Oh, this girl, she was waiting for this, wasn’t she? Taking over my bed and leaving me utterly helpless.” Su Qinghan sighed, gazing at Lu Hongzhuang, who was sound asleep on the bed, then glanced at her own wheelchair, which was nowhere to be found.

Su Qinghan pursed her lips and addressed Lu Hongzhuang, who was already asleep on the bed:

“Alright then, it seems this Daoist truly owes you.”

She began to calculate, meticulously estimating the distances. She would push off from the bed, launch herself airborne to gain leverage from the table, then use the door for another boost, executing an aerial flip while simultaneously closing it, before landing steadily on Lu Hongzhuang’s bed.

And so, the two of them were forced to squeeze onto a single bed.

Lu Hongzhuang lay on her side, her back to Su Qinghan. Su Qinghan, in turn, carefully lay beside her, trying her best not to touch her.

Silence filled the room, broken only by the sound of their breathing.

“Brother Wolf, please stop. You’ve already killed too many innocent people.” Bai Xue lifted her head, her voice choked with sobs.

Xuange scoffed coldly. “The humans indiscriminately slaughter our demon race. Do they truly take us for weaklings?” He raised the storybook in his hand. “I’ve already discovered the method to attain Dao and become immortal! I’ll soon bring peace to the demon race!”

Bai Xue shook her head, tears welling up again. “That’s just a storybook, it’s all fake!”

“I know it’s a storybook!” Xuange suddenly grew agitated, his voice laced with fanaticism. “What I mean is, the storybook gave me inspiration, it showed me a path!”

He walked to the front of the cell, his golden beast-like eyes fixed intently on Bai Xue.

“After destroying three more villages, and massacring Moonfall Town, our demon race can flourish!”

Bai Xue covered her face and wept, her voice choked with sobs. “How did you become like this? Can’t we simply retreat to the mountains and forests, and no longer concern ourselves with worldly affairs?”

Xuange ran his hands over his face, a sickly smile spreading across his features. “If humans won’t give us a way to live, where can we hide? As long as I achieve immortality, I’ll take you to the Immortal Realm to live a carefree and joyful life. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?”

He gazed at Bai Xue, his eyes filled with paranoia and madness.

“Just wait, Bai Xue, soon, we’ll be free from this mortal purgatory, and live in boundless freedom in the Immortal Realm!”

After speaking, Xuange turned and departed, leaving Bai Xue alone, weeping sorrowfully within the fully appointed cell.

As night deepened, Moonfall Town was enveloped in an unsettling calm.
