Chapter 76: The Golden Barrier and a Dire Revelation

Su Qinghan’s fingertips abruptly froze.

Jiu Li’s voice was filled with a pained whine. “This bit of spiritual energy I have was meant to solidify my physical form. Yet here you are, without even a blink, ready to drain it all from me!”

No sooner had the words left her lips.

“Ah—!”

“Help! Monsters! The monsters have entered the city!”

Beyond the towering walls of Master Qian’s Manor, shrill screams and the clang of weapons suddenly erupted. The sounds of battle instantly propelled the panic within the manor to its absolute peak.

Su Qinghan froze.

‘So quickly?’

‘The city walls have fallen?!’

“Thump! Thump! Thump!”

Several small demons, their forms twisted and saliva dripping from their jaws, slammed themselves furiously against the vermilion gates of Master Qian’s Manor.

Others, using both hands and feet, swiftly scaled the high walls. They thrust their massive heads into the courtyard, their eyes greedily sweeping over the trembling assembly within.

“So much flesh! So much delicious flesh!”

“Eat them all!”

The people in the courtyard were scared out of their wits. Master Qian himself collapsed to the ground, muttering, “It’s over, it’s all over.”

Just as one small demon clambered over the wall, poised to leap down.

Ohm—!

An invisible ripple, centered on Su Qinghan, suddenly expanded outwards.

The talismans, affixed to the walls, doorframes, and even the cracks in the floor tiles, instantly erupted with dazzling golden light!

The light surged skyward, weaving together above Master Qian’s Manor to form a colossal golden barrier. This shimmering dome enveloped the entire estate, sealing it completely.

“Sizzle—!”

The small demons that had already scaled the wall, touched by the golden light, immediately began to smoke black. They let out ear-splitting shrieks as they tumbled down, scrambling with all their limbs.

More demonic creatures swarmed from all directions, fearlessly assailing the golden barrier.

“Thump! Thump! Thump!”

With every impact, ripples spread across the barrier, yet it remained impregnable.

The small demons smashed against it, splitting their heads and bleeding profusely. Some were even directly disintegrated into dust by the repelling force emanating from the barrier.

Master Qian watched the scene unfold, utterly dumbfounded.

“It’s… it’s held them back?”

He reached out a trembling hand, staring in disbelief at the thin layer of light. ‘These… these scribbled talismans, they can actually hold back man-eating monsters?’

Madam Qian was equally speechless, stunned by the miraculous sight. Earlier, she had secretly grumbled that Su Qinghan was nothing more than a swindling charlatan.

But the next second, as if remembering something, all color drained from her pallid face.

“Xiaoxiao!” she shrieked, “My Xiaoxiao is still outside!”

Master Qian also reacted with a jolt, his heart instantly plummeting into despair.

Outside the manor, the streets had devolved into a living hell.

Xiao Li swung his heavy dadao, his movements clumsy but his stance unwavering.

Several wounds, deep enough to expose bone, already marred his body. Blood soaked through his clothes, yet he steadfastly shielded those behind him.

Qian Xiaoxiao and her maid, Cui’er, huddled together, trembling violently, their cries caught in their throats.

Two small demons attacked from both sides, relentlessly searching for an opening in Xiao Li’s defense.

Just then, the horde of demons, who had been besieging Master Qian’s Manor but were unable to breach its gates, noticed the commotion nearby.

When they spotted the two trembling young women, a greedy light instantly flared in their murky eyes.

“Fresh prey over there!”

“Those two girls are mine!”

Over a dozen demonic creatures instantly changed direction, abandoning their assault on the barrier. With a reeking gust of wind, they lunged towards Xiao Li and the two women!

Despair was etched across Xiao Li’s face.

‘It’s over.’

Su Qinghan absorbed every detail of the scene.

‘The city walls have fallen, the demons have entered the city…’

‘What about Lu Hongzhuang?’

‘The red-clad woman who so arrogantly declared, “I’ll handle everything,” how is she now?’

A fear she had never known before seized her heart.

She turned her wheelchair, looking at Master Qian, whose face was ashen.

“Stay in the courtyard. Don’t go out.”

Her voice was unnervingly calm.

“This formation can hold for a while.”

Having spoken, she issued her final command to Jiu Li in her mind.

‘Stop talking, give it all to me.’

“Holy hell! You’re actually serious! This fox will fight you to the death!” Jiu Li let out a shriek of utter despair, then instantly transformed into an immense, unparalleled surge of pure spiritual energy. This energy roared into Su Qinghan’s limbs and bones!

Boom!

Su Qinghan’s body jolted violently.

Her raven hair was instantly streaked with broad swaths of frosty white, the interwoven black and white strands stirring as if by an unseen wind.

A pair of fluffy fox ears and nine bushy fox tails flashed into existence behind her, vanishing so swiftly that no one could clearly perceive them.

The next moment, the woman in the wheelchair vanished.

Only an afterimage remained in her place.

Master Qian and the others only registered a flash of white light before their eyes. When they focused again, Su Qinghan was nowhere to be seen.

Meanwhile, outside the manor gates.

The dozen or so demonic creatures lunging towards Xiao Li and Qian Xiaoxiao suddenly froze in mid-motion.

Immediately after.

Pop! Pop! Pop!

Without any warning, their bodies seemed to detonate from within by an unseen force, exploding one after another into crimson mists of blood!

Foul-smelling blood and shattered flesh splattered all over Xiao Li and Qian Xiaoxiao.

Both of them were stunned speechless.

Xiao Li stared blankly at the empty space before him, utterly bewildered by what had just transpired.

A white shadow streaked rapidly across the rooftops of Moonfall Town.

Her speed was absolute, appearing to ordinary mortals as nothing more than a fleeting streak of light across the night sky.

In the streets below, every demon that tried to block her, indeed, every demon she simply passed by, exploded into bloody ruin the instant they came within ten zhang of her, utterly powerless to resist.

She raced eastward, heading directly for the source where the tolling bells and battle cries were most concentrated.

The East City Gate!

Lu Hongzhuang was there!

When Su Qinghan landed on the shattered battlements of the East City Gate, the overpowering stench of blood that assailed her was so thick it made her stomach churn.

This place had already become an Asura’s battlefield.

The city walls had been breached from within, and countless demonic creatures were pouring into the city through the gates.

Corpses lay scattered everywhere, both inside and outside the city gate.

Some belonged to demons, but the vast majority were the bodies of refugees, used as mere “meat shields.”

Their mutilated bodies piled up like mountains, and blood flowed in streams, staining the ground a horrifying dark red.

‘She wasn’t here.’

‘That familiar red figure, she wasn’t here.’

“Oh?”

A coarse, mocking voice echoed from the highest point of the battlement.

Su Qinghan looked up.

There, a massive tiger demon sat regally upon a broken war drum, his posture imposing and unyielding. His body was a mass of bulging muscles, radiating explosive power. It was Lieshan.

He eyed the suddenly appearing Su Qinghan with keen interest.

“Well now, who knew this city was hiding such a beautiful fox demon?”

Lieshan bared his massive maw, revealing stark white fangs.

“What? Do you intend to mimic those idiotic demon exorcists, playing at some trick of ‘aiding the weak and punishing the strong’?”

“That’s hardly a fox’s business.”

Su Qinghan ignored his taunts, her voice frigid.

“Have you seen a female knight-errant, dressed in red?”

Lieshan paused at her words, then erupted into thunderous laughter that shook the very air.

“Hahahahaha! The one in red? You mean that fiery woman with the sword, as pungent as a chili pepper?”

He extended a massive paw, proudly patting his belly, which seemed forged of iron.

“I’ve seen her. Tasted quite good.”

“I devoured her in one bite.”

The surrounding air solidified in that instant.

The clamor of battle seemed to fade into the distance.
