Chapter 65: The Nightmare Begins

Wang’s thoughts cleared in an instant. Her face twisted, as if she had just woken from a nightmare.

However, Wang’s nightmare was unlike those of others who merely awoke from a bad dream.

For them, it was an awakening; for her, the true nightmare had only just begun.

You watched his sworn enemy’s panic, savoring her disheveled, pathetic, and utterly broken reaction. He struggled immensely to suppress his laughter.

“Like a miserable dog fallen into water, whimpering without a bark — that’s the true appearance of a monster allied with demons!”

Wang, however, cared nothing for how she was perceived. In that moment, only one thought consumed her:

She had to go back. She absolutely had to!

The impending victory was irrelevant. The disdain shown to her was meaningless.

Ultimately, everyone’s priorities differed. Wang only wished to protect her family; everything else was trivial.

Even if Wang lingered for another minute, or even thirty seconds, all four Legion Commanders, including You, would perish.

Despite the overwhelmingly favorable situation, with the Allied Forces on the verge of total defeat, the figure turning away showed not a flicker of hesitation.

She would never accept the outcome of losing her family.

To prevent such a tragedy, she would not waver for a moment, even if it meant sacrificing an imminent victory.

Watching her retreating figure, You could confidently assert:

‘This demon leader is inferior to me!’

You, even if he witnessed his sister’s death, would be saddened but not entirely averse to the consequences of losing a loved one, so long as he himself thrived.

But Wang?

She, on the other hand, could not accept tragedy at all, believing that losing even one family member signified her utter defeat.

Those with attachments, those who could never harden their hearts, were destined to hold no advantage against a cold-blooded, ruthless opponent.

“Get out of my way!”

The soldiers at the rear of the encirclement met their doom.

Wang’s eyes turned blood red. With a beast-like roar, she relentlessly brought her blade down, undeniably entering her most terrifying state.

Since the war began, this was the first time her blade’s speed far surpassed the soldiers’ ability to maintain their formation.

No matter how many spears or soldiers attempted to fill the gaps in their ranks, her sword invariably turned countless lives into crimson mist beneath its edge.

She was utterly lost in herself, oblivious to life and death.

Over a dozen new wounds appeared on Wang’s body, a sight the soldiers would not have dared to dream of just minutes prior.

During the previous tens of minutes of fierce combat, Wang had remained completely unscathed.

Yet, from the moment she shifted her state, every five seconds, a sharp thrust from the side inevitably opened a new bleeding gash on her skin.

The reason was simple: she no longer defended or dodged. Instead, she fought with the principle of “an eye for an eye, a life for a cut,” risking her own body without hesitation.

An ordinary sword would have clanged and shattered from such high-frequency abrasion, unable to sustain continuous hacking and slashing.

A person of less resolute will would have long collapsed from the immense blood loss, incapable of standing so upright and fighting with such maddened fervor.

Countless soldiers, who cherished their own lives, could not fathom why the “monster” before them had transformed in such a way.

They failed to comprehend what reason drove the demon leader to risk her life again and again.

Those who didn’t understand would never understand, not from birth to death!

All they could do was lose their lives when her sword descended.

Occasionally, some brave warriors, on the verge of death, would push the horror before them further, drenching it in blood, yet their opponent’s movements only grew swifter.

Strange, impossibly strange!

Among the hundred thousand present, had anyone ever witnessed an opponent whose aura became more terrifying the more they bled?

The departed could no longer comprehend the truth behind that monstrosity.

The next wave of elite soldiers, approaching from the opposite direction, discovered an undeniable reality:

The encirclement had been torn apart!

The human wave tactics, employed throughout, failed to halt her crimson advance.

At this distance, the pursuers from the other three directions, even if they thrust their weapons forward, could not reach that unyielding back.

However, what blades could not achieve, arrows might.

“Loose arrows!”

You’s demeanor was calm, yet bloodthirsty.

He knew he was no match for Wang. Even by gathering vast numbers of cannon fodder for a war of attrition, he himself had nearly perished on the battlefield not long ago.

The vast disparity in strength fueled You’s resentment, yet it did not breed helplessness.

If a frontal assault failed, he could strike from behind.

If that, too, proved ineffective, he would target her weaknesses.

You would spare no means available to him!

To this end, You, disregarding the threat to his sister’s life, had secretly deployed his most concealed unit to the rear of the battlefield before the morning’s war began.

That location was diametrically opposite to where Wang was currently engaged in battle.

You had anticipated Wang’s nature, knowing that once an arrow rain descended upon the battlefield, the pathetic “monster” would be unwilling to risk her subordinates and would surely order them to retreat to the rear.

Once the numerous demons withdrew to safety, You would seize a suitable opportunity, ordering that unit to attack from the mountain’s reverse side.

This scheme was entirely feasible; after all, what was a mere topographical obstruction to flying creatures?

The signal for their attack would be the cry of a similar creature.

No one on the battlefield could possibly forget:

Just moments ago, an enormous Wyvern had appeared on the battlefield, unleashing a roar that echoed for miles.

Indeed!

The true identity of that so-called “secret unit” was another bipedal dragon.

You had kept this hidden from the other Legion Commanders, letting them believe he had brought only one dragon when, in fact, he had brought two!

Under normal circumstances, the demons, fighting together, would have no trouble dispatching a sub-dragon species.

That assumed they were unharmed, with no comrades forced to await recovery in the rear due to severe injuries!

But what was the reality?

Little Eagle had been gravely wounded in the previous fierce battle, and even with Cai’s healing, her current state rendered her completely unfit for combat.

Every other demon also bore injuries of varying severity.

Considering their current state, the demons were utterly outmatched by that dragon. Wang had no choice but to rush back to their aid.

To ensure speed during her retreat, even a “Nation-toppling” level powerhouse would inevitably expose certain vulnerabilities.

Thus, You’s perfect opportunity had arrived.

Although many unexpected events had occurred, You’s plot had indeed succeeded. His opponent had revealed a fatal weakness.
