Chapter 9: A Clever Lass and a Confident Pursuit

A slightly aged voice echoed in Yue Feng’s ear. “This is a clever lass.”

“Master?” Yue Feng, having learned from experience, maintained an unreadable expression as he conversed with Shi Yang.

“I saw that she was stubborn and very opinionated. I thought it would take some effort to get her to follow you,” Shi Yang said lightly.

“I never expected her to propose it herself. She understands the situation and adapts, discerning good from evil without being rigid. In this regard, you are not her equal.”

“Is that so? I thought Yu’er was quite easy to tease,” Yue Feng mused, a smile playing on his lips as he recalled his earlier bickering with Wang Yu.

“That’s because her life experience isn’t as rich as yours. How old is she compared to you?” Shi Yang retorted, annoyed. “Let me ask you, after you acted so frivolously towards her just now, why would she willingly go with you?”

“Why even ask? Because your disciple is as handsome as a jade tree in the wind, dashing and unrestrained. Yu’er must have fallen in love with me!”

“Why are you such a narcissist, you brat?” Shi Yang exclaimed, feeling utterly exasperated.

He sensed that ever since this boy avenged his family, he had grown too arrogant. He used to be more restrained, but now he dared to be cheeky even in front of his master.

“I think you’re just itching for a beating. Have you become too full of yourself, or do you think your master can no longer wield a blade?”

“Just kidding, just kidding!” Seeing the elder’s rising anger, Yue Feng quickly tried to appease him. He dropped his playful demeanor and said calmly, “Because Yu’er needs me.”

“Oh? Needs you for what? Tell me,” Shi Yang said, gazing at his disciple.

“She needs me to be her great umbrella, shielding her from wind and rain, so she can better understand this unfamiliar world. She needs me to be her backing, so she can avoid petty scoundrels.”

“She also needs to use me to escape unnecessary troubles and obtain what she requires,” Yue Feng said with a self-deprecating laugh.

“You actually see things quite clearly,” Shi Yang remarked, scrutinizing his disciple. His tragic past had tempered his will, and his experiences with people had made him increasingly mature, allowing him to perceive many things with profound clarity.

“So, you still intend to pursue her?”

“Pursue? Why wouldn’t I? She’s willing to stay by my side precisely because I have value to her. Only then will I have the chance to make her my woman,” Yue Feng stated confidently.

“Love at first sight only exists in beautiful stories; in reality, such a possibility is minuscule. Feelings are nurtured, from strangers to acquaintances, from transactional exchanges to mutual understanding and love.”

“I have confidence that I can win her over. Yu’er is so intelligent; she will undoubtedly become a virtuous wife and loving mother in the future.”

“That won’t be easy,” Shi Yang chuckled, looking at his disciple.

“Speaking of which, Master, don’t just stand idly by! She’s practically your granddaughter. Why not play matchmaker for us? It would be a double blessing for our families.”

“When you’re old and can no longer move, we’ll both care for you, enjoying the joys of family,” Yue Feng teased.

“Nonsense! Even if you can’t run anymore, your master will still be lively and kicking!” Shi Yang scolded, laughing.

“Master, could you tell me about ‘Home’?” Yue Feng had wanted to ask this question for a while. Yu’er was so young and hadn’t experienced much of the mortal world, yet she seemed incredibly mature.

“Are everyone from Yu’er’s origin so clever?”

“I don’t know much about ‘Home’ myself, only that it’s not on the Sky Profound Continent,” Shi Yang pondered before replying. “My old friend didn’t tell me much about his past, and I haven’t interacted with many people from their place.”

“However, they all share a common trait: rather than being merely clever, they possess countless ingenious ideas that are impossible to fathom.”

“For instance?” Yue Feng asked curiously.

“You know about the Yuan Bank, right?”

“Of course! Who on the Sky Profound Continent doesn’t know it? Isn’t it an institution that handles currency and credit? Any family or even sect with some savings would store their Yuan coins there.”

“Why do you ask about this?” Yue Feng was somewhat perplexed.

“Then do you know who first established the Yuan Bank?” Shi Yang asked calmly.

“Wasn’t it the Heaven-Forged Venerable? Everyone knows that! Every Yuan Bank enshrines his portrait. Wait, are you saying…” Yue Feng’s voice trailed off in disbelief.

“It’s quite incredible, isn’t it?” The old man sighed helplessly. “My old friend merely heard the name ‘Heaven-Forged Venerable’ and immediately guessed that he also came from ‘Home.’ It seems ‘forging’ is a special term in their world.”

“There are many such things; I’ll tell you more later. You’ve arrived at your destination.”

Yue Feng snapped back to reality. Innate Realm experts traveled swiftly; even without exerting full power, they moved at roughly 130 miles per hour. Unknowingly, he had reached his destination and thus halted.

“Are we there?” Wang Yu stirred awake, her eyes hazy. She was utterly exhausted; the mental fatigue had overwhelmed her the moment she felt secure with Yue Feng, and she had fallen asleep almost instantly.

“We’re here,” Yue Feng whispered to the beauty on his back, as if a slightly louder sound might startle the little loli.

Wang Yu groggily opened her eyes, only to find that their surroundings were not a city, but a secluded, quiet village cottage, devoid of any other human presence.

Wang Yu instantly jolted awake. ‘What’s happening?!’ she thought. ‘This guy is finally showing his true colors; he’s going to make a move on me! My many years of purity are going to be lost to a man, yet I haven’t even properly enjoyed my loli body.’

Yue Feng, naturally oblivious to the tempestuous mental shifts occurring on his back, simply walked towards the cottage. As he approached the door, he called out, “Cai’er, I’m back!”

“Brother is back!” A melodious female voice, brimming with joyous surprise, rang out from inside the house.

The door opened, and a young girl dressed in simple clothes ran out.

Though not as breathtakingly beautiful as Wang Yu at that moment, she was undeniably graceful and lovely. Her spirited eyes, paired with her lively, charming melon-seed face, possessed a unique charm.

The girl rushed to Yue Feng, her face etched with worry. Suddenly, she noticed Wang Yu on Yue Feng’s back, her expression one of astonishment. She asked, “Brother, who is she?”

“Your future sister-in-law,” Yue Feng said with a smug grin. “I picked her up on the road. Seeing her all alone, I felt a surge of kindness and brought her back. She’s a bit small, but once she grows up and is properly guided, she’ll make a virtuous wife.”

“I am not! I didn’t! Don’t spout nonsense!” Wang Yu had initially been surprised by the sudden appearance of the girl, but hearing Yue Feng’s outrageous claims made her gnash her teeth in anger. “And I’m not younger than you!”

“Oh?” Yue Feng glanced at Wang Yu, a hint of surprise in his eyes. “Does that mean we can get married right now?”

“I!!!!!” ‘Grace! Calm! He’s just a big radish! Just a little brother!’ Wang Yu’s lungs felt like they were about to explode, her small face flushed like a red apple, making one want to take a bite.

“Brother, don’t bully her,” the girl said, knowing her brother’s personality well. She quickly intervened. Suddenly, she noticed the bloodstains on Yue Feng’s body and gasped, “Brother, are you hurt?”

“It’s nothing, just a minor injury. I didn’t expect that sect master, seeing no chance of victory, would try to take me down with him.

But I was prepared, and the other members of the Cloudwind Sect couldn’t possibly harm me,” Yue Feng said dismissively.

“That wicked man!” the girl pouted, clearly annoyed. “To try and drag Brother down even in death!”

Wang Yu, feeling a pang of guilt, averted her gaze. Fortunately, neither Yue Cai’er nor Yue Feng noticed her.

“Right, I’ll leave Yu’er in your care for now. I need to go into town to handle some matters and buy her some things,” Yue Feng instructed the girl, carefully handing the little loli on his back over to her. He then turned to rush towards the town.

“Wait,” Wang Yu said, pulling two gold coins from her spatial ring and offering them to Yue Feng. “These two gold coins should be enough for my daily necessities. The rest is for your travel expenses.”

“No need, I’m not short on money,” Yue Feng flatly refused. “Besides—”

“Take it!” Wang Yu’s hand remained stubbornly outstretched, her eyes fixed on Yue Feng.

Yue Feng raised an eyebrow but did not refuse again. Perhaps this was the girl’s last shred of pride. He took the gold coins, said, “I’m off,” and quickly vanished from sight.

“Brother is so impatient,” the girl complained softly, then turned to the girl in her arms. “Hello, my name is Yue Cai. Please take care of me from now on, little sister. What’s your name?”

“I’m not a little sister!” Wang Yu protested, her face completely flushed as the girl held her tightly in a princess carry, inhaling the sweet fragrance of the girl’s body.

She had always been single and had never had such intimate contact with another girl before.

The girl’s beautiful figure flooded Wang Yu’s mind, making her feel as though she might faint. She could only weakly retort, “Even though I look like this, I’m actually much older. I’m not an old hag yet, but I’m well into my twenties.”

The girl blinked, saying nothing more, but the amusement in her eyes did not fade. She carried Wang Yu to the bed inside the house, then went to pour tea.

Wang Yu looked around, noticing that although the cottage was small, it was impeccably clean. The furniture was neatly arranged, creating a truly cozy atmosphere.

“Did you manage all of this?” Wang Yu asked curiously.

“Mm-hm.”

“That’s truly capable of you.”

Hearing Wang Yu’s praise, Yue Cai smiled and said, “A long time ago, Brother absolutely hated doing housework. But Uncle said he needed to be trained and wouldn’t let servants help him, so he asked me to do it. I couldn’t refuse, so I just kept doing it.”

“Oh, and I can cook! Everyone in the family says my cooking is delicious. I’ll make some for you to try later.”

“Uncle? You and Yue Feng aren’t biological siblings?”

“No, we’re not,” the girl replied casually. “But our feelings are pretty much the same; it’s just that our bloodline might be a bit distant.”

‘The world owes me a sister like this!’
