Chapter 34: The Weight of Responsibility and the Arrival of the Sacred Lands

“Alas,” Situ Yan senior sighed, a profound weariness in his voice.

Who could have imagined that the very land which had once brought prosperity to the Situ family would now become a deadly poison, threatening their existence?

“Then what does this have to do with your position as Chief Disciple?”

Situ Yan replied, “For the Situ family to remain in Fire Cauldron City now would be a death sentence, with no chance of survival. We must find a new base of operations. But in this vast world, where can the Situ family truly find refuge?”

“Even if we voluntarily withdraw, our influence in Fire Cauldron City remains immense.

While sacred lands like the Heavenly Palace Institute and Hundred Blossom Valley might not care for such things, what about the demonic sects—the Demonic Gate, Asura Palace, and Hell?

They would certainly not overlook us. Their consistent approach is to rather kill a thousand innocents than let a single one escape.”

“Without a powerful backing, what family could possibly withstand them? The Situ family must ensure that after withdrawing from Fire Cauldron City, we have a sufficiently strong patron to guarantee we won’t be utterly annihilated.”

“A Chief Disciple is the face of a sect.

If I can achieve this position, and the Situ family then proactively withdraws from Fire Cauldron City to pledge allegiance, the sect would never stand by and watch us be humiliated by ambitious forces.

At that point, the Situ family would be able to advance or retreat as needed, no longer fearing for our survival.”

“Moreover, this plan was conceived by me alone, never reported to the family. Should I fail, I can take all the blame upon myself, and they will never pursue the matter further, allowing the family to seek other avenues.”

Situ Yan senior gazed at his youngest son with complicated emotions. His lips parted, and he said hoarsely, “You have suffered greatly.”

Situ Huo, unsure of what to say, could only watch his brother helplessly.

Situ Yan rose to his feet, speaking with resolute conviction.

“From a young age, I have been meticulously cared for and nurtured without reservation by the family. All my achievements today are inseparable from the family. As a member of the Situ family, I will never shy away in its moment of crisis. This is my solemn duty.”

Situ Yan’s gaze was unwavering. “For the future of the family, I will brave any danger, even walk through fire and water!”

In stark contrast to the gloom shrouding the Situ family, Yue Feng and his companions were happily strolling through the streets.

Well, everyone except a certain individual who had wanted to stay home from the start, only to be forcibly dragged out by Yue Feng, and was now sprawled like a salted fish on A-Bao’s back.

Wang Yu paid no mind to the curious stares of passersby directed at her and A-Bao. Instead, she playfully clutched Xiaoke’s two wings. “Xiaoke, oh Xiaoke, tell me, who is the saddest salted fish?”

Xiaoke felt on the verge of tears. He longed for freedom, but ever since they left, Wang Yu had been dragging him by his wings, manipulating him, unable to move forward or back.

Thus, the great Comrade Xiaoke decided to rebel against tyranny. Give him liberty, or give him death!

Xiaoke stammered, trembling slightly, “Master, you are not actually the saddest salted fish. You are the most humble… flat board.”

Wang Yu’s mouth twitched. She tightened her grip on Xiaoke’s two little paws. “What did you say? Even if I don’t care, aren’t you being a bit too bold?”

Xiaoke, however, was committed to riding the wave to its end. “Master, it’s not just me saying this, you possess peerless beauty and skin so smooth no one can compare.

But your flat airport is your biggest flaw. Perhaps you should drink more milk in the future, or let Yue Feng help you massage them—Ah! Ah! Ah! Ah! I’m free!”

Watching Xiaoke fly off, bruised and swollen but still forcing a triumphant smile and making a victory gesture at them, Yue Feng felt a mix of shame and slight admiration. There were many ways to escape, yet Xiaoke always chose the most dramatic.

Yue Feng turned his head, glancing at Wang Yu’s flat chest. ‘Hmm, maybe I should find some time to help her out, though I quite like it this way too.’

“What are you looking at? Stare any longer and I’ll chop off your hands!” Wang Yu glared fiercely at Yue Feng, crossing her arms and huffily dismounting from A-Bao’s back.

A-Bao quickly tried to console her. “Little Master, it’s alright. They’ll naturally get bigger once you marry the Male Master, ah!”

His already dark eye sockets turned a shade of purple.

‘They’ll be the death of me, eventually.’

“Sister Yu’er.” The young girl seemed about to say something, but Wang Yu quickly interjected, “Don’t say it, Yue Cai! I’m perfectly fine just the way I am, mmmph!”

No sooner had she spoken than she bumped into Yue Feng’s back, her little nose hurting a bit ╯﹏╰. “What are you doing?!”

Yue Feng didn’t answer. Instead, he pulled Wang Yu in front of him and pointed to the sky. Several colossal fly-cloud ships were descending in an orderly fashion from different directions towards Fire Cauldron City.

These ships were vastly different from passenger vessels; it was clear they had been modified, their defensive and offensive capabilities greatly enhanced.

Moreover, different emblems were emblazoned on their hulls, likely representing various major powers.

“The people from the major sacred lands have all arrived,” Yue Feng said, his expression one of someone anticipating a good show.

“Are you happy about this?” Wang Yu glanced sideways at Yue Feng. “They’re clearly here to compete with you for opportunities, aren’t they?”

“That’s what makes it interesting,” Yue Feng declared, a hint of swagger in his voice.

“You wouldn’t believe how lonely it is to be invincible. My master taught me personally; only the chief disciples of sacred lands could possibly compare to that level of instruction.

It truly makes me feel bad for Master that a disciple he taught, capable of reaching the Imperial Realm, can only show off his might among us.”

‘No, I am not. I did not.’ Shi Yang, watching his boastful disciple from inside the ring, suddenly wanted to find a replacement. ‘Why did I ever choose this guy?’

“Can you go one day without showing off?” Wang Yu rolled her eyes. She had never seen anyone boast about themselves so openly on the street.

Yue Feng shrugged. “Is telling the truth not allowed these days? Master, tell me, which of these sacred lands has a grudge with you? I’ll go take care of them.”

Shi Yang remained stoic, indicating he had no desire to engage.

“Speaking of which, why hasn’t Xiaoke come back yet?” Wang Yu asked with a touch of worry. If she couldn’t sense that Xiaoke wasn’t in danger, she would have thought something terrible had happened to him.

Yue Feng paused, thought for a moment, then said, “The direction you hit him towards earlier… it seems to be where the Heavenly Palace Institute’s fly-cloud ship was passing.”

Upon hearing this, Wang Yu exchanged a glance with Yue Feng, then looked towards the landing zone with a strange expression.

Meanwhile, Xiaoke was yelling, “Hey, you bastards, let me out!” He struggled against the bars of a cage. “Do you know who I am? I’m one of your Grandmaster’s subordinates!”

The disciples of the Heavenly Palace Institute frequently peered at this spiritual pet, whose appearance was unlike anything they had ever seen, their faces full of curiosity and a thirst for knowledge.

“Hey, do you think it’s a hybrid, or naturally formed?”

“I don’t know, but it’s so cute! I really want to dissect it. Its internal structure must be incredibly novel.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa, dissection is too much! What if it’s the only one of its kind? Let our biology department figure out how to breed it first, then your medical academy can dissect it.”

“Hold on, hold on! Once you figure out rapid breeding, you can give it to my business academy! I guarantee you’ll make a fortune!”

Xiaoke felt utterly exasperated. How had the people of the Heavenly Palace Institute become so twisted after a thousand years? It was so strange, especially since his and Haotian’s values were so righteous.

“Alright, alright, you all can leave for now,” an elder sitting nearby interjected, shooing away the excitedly discussing disciples.

The elder stood up and circled Xiaoke, examining him from all sides, making Xiaoke’s fur stand on end.

Xiaoke shivered. ‘Could this old man be a pervert?’

Suddenly, the elder clutched his stomach and burst into laughter. “You finally got your comeuppance today! Hahahahahaha!”
