Chapter 28: The Strange Bear and the Perils of Being Useless

Yue Feng, looking puzzled, stared at Yue Cai and Wang Yu.

“So, you brought back this strangely shaped bear?”

“Yes,” Wang Yu replied, stifling a yawn.

She had just woken up from sleeping on the bear’s back, finding the panda’s broad form surprisingly comfortable as a bed—a luxury unimaginable on Earth.

“So, what exactly can this bear from your ‘homeland’ do?” Yue Feng asked, his curiosity piqued by the mysterious creature.

Wang Yu pondered for a moment.

“Does being cute count?”

“Huh?” Yue Feng stared at the panda, utterly bewildered.

“Is that all?”

Wang Yu fell silent again.

“I just realized it’s incredibly comfortable to sleep on its back,” she offered. “It would be even better with a pillow. Does that count?”

“What do you think?” Yue Feng deadpanned.

Wang Yu found herself at a loss for words.

“So, besides being cute and acting as your mobile bed, it’s utterly useless, isn’t it?” Yue Feng asked, casting an exasperated look between the panda and Wang Yu.

“Wait, let me ask it.”

Wang Yu felt that this seemingly useless bear deserved a chance to explain itself. After all, it was a transmigration-era bear; surely, it must have mutated somehow.

If it truly remained this embarrassing, she’d simply stew it. Wang Yu had always harbored a lingering desire for panda meat.

Wang Yu looked at the panda with a gentle expression.

“My cute Gungun.”

The panda paused, then said, “Boss, my name isn’t Gungun.”

Wang Yu thought for a moment.

“Yuanyuan?”

“That’s my relative’s name.”

“Chengshi?”

“That’s also a relative of mine.”

Wang Yu’s face slowly darkened. Since her transformation, she had found herself losing her temper more easily.

“Panda.”

“That’s our family’s general term, but it’s not my name.”

“Cat-bear.”

“That was an older general term.”

“Iron-eating Beast.”

“That’s an ancient general term. My actual name is…”

Wang Yu’s face was ashen as she stared at the panda, which clearly hadn’t grasped the gravity of the situation.

“Your name is ‘Ingredients,’ and you’re going into the pot tonight.”

The utterly undignified panda immediately rushed over, hugging Wang Yu’s leg and rubbing against it incessantly.

“My Tsundere-sama, I was wrong (><)! I’ll be whatever you say I am!” it cried, adding, “From now on, I am your bear!”

Wang Yu gently stroked the panda’s head.

“Such an obedient one. From now on, you’ll be called Volibear. Hmm, no, you don’t quite fit that name, and foreign names are a mouthful. I’ll just call you A-Bao.”

“Tsundere-sama is truly wise! Only you could conceive such a magnificent name!” the panda—no, A-Bao—exaggerated wildly.

Wang Yu was quite pleased, offering a modest demurral.

“Oh, it’s nothing. That’s the name of a very famous giant panda from my world. Not only could he walk on two legs, but he also knew martial arts. He was incredibly popular where I come from. Since you’ve inherited his name, you should learn from him.”

Thinking of this, Wang Yu paused. ‘I think I was supposed to ask what it could do; how did I end up naming it?’ she mused.

She cleared her throat. “Enough with the pleasantries. Since you’ve also transmigrated, you must have learned something more than your ordinary kin. Tell me, what can you do?”

A-Bao thought for a moment.

“Now that you mention it, I actually *have* learned a few things.”

Wang Yu’s interest was immediately piqued.

“Oh? What have you learned?”

A-Bao puffed out its chest proudly.

“I’ve learned multiple languages, and I can even mimic the sounds of other animals. I’ve also learned the language of the ‘nannies’ who raised me. I estimate I’ll master this world’s language in a while. Other than that, there’s nothing much else.”

A-Bao suddenly noticed Wang Yu’s expression souring and quickly added, “Tsundere-sama, look! Woof woof woof, I can bark like a dog! And meow meow meow, that’s a cat’s meow! Isn’t it adorable? I can even…”

“Enough!” Wang Yu snapped, grabbing Xiaoke, who had been silently busy eating until now.

“Do you see this one?” she demanded. “It’s proficient in tens of thousands of languages, comes with a built-in translator, doesn’t eat much, is small, and very easy to carry. Aside from not being able to deliberately act cute, it’s quite adorable when it’s not talking. You had better give me a reason not to stew you.”

Wang Yu casually tossed Xiaoke aside and stared coldly at the panda.

A-Bao was utterly bewildered and at a loss for words.

“I-I-I… I can also be a mount! I heard my nannies say that my ancestors were mounts for a very famous figure. I’m actually very powerful!” A-Bao tried to put on a fierce demeanor.

Wang Yu sneered.

“Right, and then that great figure suffered a terrible defeat.”

A-Bao immediately looked embarrassed, laughing dryly.

“Haha, is, is that so?” The atmosphere grew incredibly awkward.

Just then, Yue Feng interjected, “Well, did you find out what special abilities it has?” Yue Feng had been watching the loli and the strange bear communicating, finding the bear’s constantly changing facial expressions quite amusing.

“Want to know? Then beg me!” Having spent a long time with Yue Feng, Wang Yu couldn’t resist teasing him. Unfortunately, she forgot what kind of person Yue Feng was.

“Oh?” Yue Feng looked at the loli who had suddenly decided to tease him.

He pulled her directly into his embrace, gently stroking her beautiful hair and lifting her head. He gazed into her bright eyes, his finger lightly tracing her alluring red lips.

“My dear Yu’er, I feel you should be begging me right now for how I might spare your first kiss. While it will be mine sooner or later, if you can’t wait, I can take it now.”

!!!

Wang Yu’s face flushed crimson from Yue Feng’s rapid succession of actions.

Sitting on Yue Feng’s lap, she found herself utterly speechless. After a long moment, she finally whispered, “I’m sorry, I was wrong.”

“I can’t hear you,” Yue Feng insisted, gently twirling a strand of the loli’s black hair.

“Also, that’s not how you beg. Come on, be cute for me.”

This was too much! Wang Yu decided that she would either explode in silence or… surrender in silence.

Wang Yu clenched her small fists, looking pitifully at Yue Feng. “I’m sorry, I was wrong.”

Yue Feng nodded in satisfaction this time, but still kissed Wang Yu on the cheek.

“Your little mouth can be spared, but your little face cannot.” After that, he released Wang Yu.

Wang Yu looked at Yue Feng with a mix of grief and indignation, even retreating a few steps.

All of this was witnessed by A-Bao the panda, who decisively shifted its target, hugging Yue Feng’s leg tightly.

“Male Master, save me! Your wife wants to eat me! You’re so tall, mighty, and exceptionally charismatic—you’ll definitely save me, right?”

Wang Yu’s face immediately darkened, while Yue Feng looked bewildered; he didn’t understand Chinese.

“What did it say?” he asked.

*Hiccup.*

Xiaoke, looking completely sated, seized the opportunity to show off.

“It’s speaking the language from Haotian’s domain. Here, let me translate for you.”

Wang Yu didn’t have time to stop it. Xiaoke simply gestured, and an electronic screen unfolded, displaying everything A-Bao had just said.

Yue Feng and the young woman burst into laughter after reading it. Yue Feng patted A-Bao’s head.

“Don’t worry, you’re so clever and perceptive, I’ll protect you.”

“Thank you, Male Master! Thank you, other Female Master!” A-Bao was overjoyed, expressing its gratitude repeatedly.

Xiaoke, flying nearby, said disdainfully, “Boot-lickers will end up with nothing.”

Unfortunately, it didn’t notice Wang Yu standing behind it, her face stern.

“You’d best worry about yourself first.”

Wang Yu grabbed Xiaoke by its two wings, walked to the window, and delivered a swift uppercut.

A-Bao and the others only heard a scream as Xiaoke transformed into a distant star in the sky.

A-Bao thought disdainfully, ‘You didn’t lick, and now you have nothing.’
