Chapter 9: The Girl Adaptation Plan and a Spicy Rabbit Head

A pang of tenderness washed over Su Xinxin’s heart. Turning, she entered the kitchen and retrieved ingredients from the refrigerator.

Soon, the fragrant scent of cooking oil began to waft from the kitchen.

Xiao Ming’s nose twitched. Slowly, she struggled to float up, drifting to the kitchen doorway and watching with eager eyes.

Beneath the oil-splatter apron, Su Xinxin remained in her cream-colored dress, its simple style falling to her calves.

This wasn’t due to a sudden disappearance of her earlier embarrassment. Rather, the wardrobe in this house was almost entirely filled with dresses. There were no full-length trousers at all, only shorts and a pair of capri-length sleep pants.

She recalled wanting to buy some long trousers at a small mall previously, but Xiao Ming had stopped her.

“It’s part of the plan,” Xiao Ming had said then, a hint of slyness in her smile.

“What plan?”

“The Ultimate Invincible Magical Girl Crash Course! Or, ‘Girl Adaptation Plan’ for short!” Xiao Ming declared righteously. “This is for your own good! It’s the most direct way to challenge old perceptions and accelerate the fusion of soul and body! Wearing dresses is the fastest path!

“No long trousers are allowed in the early stages; you can freely mix and match once you’ve adapted. But as for later…” She paused, her tone laced with deeper meaning. “Who knows what the future holds?”

Her words had been vague, and Su Xinxin had forgotten to press for details at the time. Now, looking back, she sensed there was more to it.

What did ‘part of the plan’ even mean? Were there other parts?

“The carrot fried rice is ready, and there’s a plate of cucumbers and some rice porridge. Do you want some?” She pushed a plate toward Xiao Ming. “Oh, right, you should like carrots, shouldn’t you?”

“I… once… again… declare!” Xiao Ming enunciated each word, as if she had fully recovered. “I am not a rabbit! I only bear a slight resemblance to one!”

“A slight resemblance—” Su Xinxin paused, having spent the past few days watching popular youth videos. “Or an ‘itty-bitty’ resemblance?”

Xiao Ming’s eyes widened in surprise. “Where did you learn such things?”

“I’ve been watching some… ‘youth culture’ stuff recently, what’s it called, ‘popular science’?” Su Xinxin settled in front of her own plate of rice, picking up her spoon. Her face was still pale, but a faint light flickered in her eyes. “Are you eating or not?”

“Hmph.” Xiao Ming turned her face away. “I’m not eating.”

“Really not eating?”

“Unless…” She secretly turned her gaze back slightly. “You add some other dishes. I might reluctantly…”

“Add more dishes, you say?” Su Xinxin set down her spoon, appearing thoughtful. “That’s certainly possible, but it requires a tiny sacrifice from you.”

“Hmm? Sacrifice what? Is it a ‘tiny’ sacrifice this time, or an ‘itty-bitty’ one? Are you going to make me go out and buy something again?” The tiny Xiao Ming was filled with immense confusion.

Su Xinxin watched her, slowly revealing a weak, yet mischievous smile. “No need to buy anything. Isn’t there something… right in front of us? Let me think… How about spicy? Spicy rabbit head. I hear it’s quite fragrant.”

Xiao Ming fell silent for a brief two seconds, then blurted out:

“No, no, no! How could you eat a bunny when bunnies are so cute!”

After speaking, she froze.

At that moment, Su Xinxin laughed, though her abdominal pain still made it a little strained.

“Oh? So you admit you’re a bunny?”

“I did not! And I’m not some emergency food!” Xiao Ming huffed, floating indignantly toward the fried rice. She used a paw to pull the plate closer, then hooked the cold cucumber dish toward herself as well. “I’m eating! I’m not talking to you anymore! I’m going to eat all of this! I need to replenish myself right now!”

She buried her face in the food, devouring it as if truly starving.

Su Xinxin watched her wolf down the meal, slowly sipping her own bowl of warm porridge. The soft, glutinous porridge slid down her throat, and the heavy ache in her abdomen seemed to ease further.

Suddenly, she felt that despite the pain, it wasn’t… quite so unbearable.

By eight in the evening, Su Xinxin was too sleepy to keep her eyes open. The fatigue from her period, combined with the mental exhaustion accumulated over the past few days, led her to finish her evening routine early and curl up in bed.

Xiao Ming switched off the main light, leaving only a small bedside lamp. Then, she nimbly hopped onto the bed, curling into a small white ball of fluff by Su Xinxin’s pillow.

“It’s still… a bit uncomfortable down there,” Su Xinxin whispered in the darkness.

Xiao Ming shifted, drawing closer. “How about… you hug me, Master? I’ve heard that hugging something soft can alleviate pain! Like hugging a plushie or something.”

“I’m not a little girl…” Su Xinxin mumbled. “Why would I need to hug a plushie?”

Yet, even as she spoke, her hand slowly reached out, gently gathering Xiao Ming into her embrace.

Xiao Ming’s body was warm and soft, her fur tickling her arm but also feeling incredibly comforting.

“Oh?” Xiao Ming looked up, her eyes sparkling in the dim light. “Then why did you still hug me, Master? Admit that I’m cute, don’t you?”

“I said I don’t hug plushies,” Su Xinxin murmured, her voice growing fainter as her eyes closed. “You’re a rabbit. What does that have to do with plushies?”

*A rabbit again?* Xiao Ming decided it wasn’t worth arguing.

She lay quietly in Su Xinxin’s arms, feeling her breathing gradually steady and listening to the rhythm of her heartbeat.

The night light cast a small, warm yellow glow, and a faint, pleasant fragrance of jasmine filled the air.

After an unknown amount of time, Su Xinxin fell into a deep sleep, her arm loosening slightly. Xiao Ming gently adjusted her position, her head resting perfectly against Su Xinxin’s chest.

With each rise and fall of breath, the soft curve there moved in tandem.

Xiao Ming stiffened, the tips of her ears turning red.

Ultimately, she didn’t move, only rubbing herself against Su Xinxin with the smallest of gestures, mumbling in a voice only she could hear:

“…It really is comfortable, and fragrant too. I like it~”

She closed her eyes, preparing to sleep.

Just then, a certain ‘module’ within her body vibrated gently—information was being transmitted.

Xiao Ming reluctantly opened her eyes. This ‘old lady’ had complained of sleepiness around eight o’clock, yet the organization’s message only arrived now…

She had intended to slip out of Su Xinxin’s embrace to check, but fearing she might disturb her sleep, she simply closed her eyes and allowed the information to project directly into her consciousness.

A light screen unfurled in her mind.

[Apprentice ‘Jasmine’ Basic Training Schedule Confirmed]

Xiao Ming clicked through, confirmed she had read it, then closed the light screen in her mind. Just then, Su Xinxin seemed to stir. Xiao Ming worried she had disturbed her.

But Su Xinxin merely tightened her arm unconsciously, pulling her even closer.

Xiao Ming lifted her head, gazing at Su Xinxin’s sleeping face in the dim light.

Pale, tired, with a slight furrow in her brow, yet she now possessed a vitality far removed from the empty-eyed elder who had lain in a hospital bed, staring out the window.

She sighed softly, resting her head back down.

Training in five days, then…

What kind of expression would this ‘old lady’ show then?

She closed her eyes, truly falling asleep this time.

The moon rose outside the window, its pristine light piercing through the curtain’s gap, casting a gentle silver line across the floor.

The night was still long.

But some paths, at last, were about to begin.
