Inside Gentian’s training room.
“Su… *cough cough*! Gentian! You answer this—” Jasmin cleared her throat, her face stern as she tried to project the image of a strict teacher. “How many divisions are there in the Magical Girl Organization, what are their names, and what do they use as their source of magical power?”
Today, she wore her transformed casual attire: a pure white off-shoulder crop top paired with a vibrant green pleated skirt. She had mentioned a few days prior that it was better to use their flower code names while transformed, as it appeared more formal and prevented future mix-ups.
However, there wasn’t much difference between their real names and code names anyway.
Su Xinxin sat opposite her, still in her pale yellow short dress. It was the only outfit she had available after transformation.
“Hmm. There are a total of five divisions within the Magical Girl Organization,” she began, her voice soft. “We are in the Jacaranda Division, which is the largest of the five. Therefore, the organization is generally structured around the Jacaranda Division. As for the source of magic… it is magical girls who draw power from flowers.”
She paused, her gaze instinctively darting downwards to her notebook, which lay open on the table before her.
But just as her eyes flickered, a greyish-brown shadow zipped over, landing steadily on the notebook.
It was Xiao Li, who had settled precisely on that page, her large amber eyes fixed on Su Xinxin. Her two front paws pressed against the paper, displaying an unmistakable ‘not a chance’ expression.
“And then there are…” Su Xinxin reluctantly averted her gaze. “The Greenwood Division, the Fragrant Grass Division, the Hundred Grains Division, and the Fungal Whispers Division. They draw their power from trees, herbs, crops, and fungi and ferns, respectively.”
She counted them off on her fingers, and after confirming she hadn’t missed anything, she looked back at Jasmin.
Jasmin was currently clutching her forehead, wearing an expression of someone who had just survived a great ordeal.
“You scared me to death!” she exclaimed, patting her chest. “I really thought you’d forgotten! Thank goodness, thank goodness…”
She paused, then added, “I did, after all, attend university for a year. That frantic studying spirit from senior high has long passed. You, on the other hand, only finished your college entrance exams a month ago, didn’t you? If you couldn’t even remember this, then I’d truly have to doubt you—”
“I remember it.” Su Xinxin reached out and gently stroked Xiao Li’s small head, which was still resting on the notebook. Only then did Xiao Li move aside, hopping back to Jasmin’s side. “I just couldn’t fully recall it at first.”
“Is that so?”
Jasmin eyed Xiao Ming, who was sleeping soundly on a nearby table. The little creature hadn’t woken up once, so she couldn’t have secretly passed on answers, could she?
Her eyes glinted as if a brilliant idea had struck her, and a faint smile touched her lips.
“Let’s play a game! How about a quick Q&A? A brainstorm session?” She leaned forward slightly. “The assessment might even include something like this!”
“But…” Su Xinxin’s smile stiffened slightly. “You’ve already said ‘the assessment might include this’ so many times… Is it really going to cover so much?”
“Oh, I said ‘might’! Anything is possible!” Jasmin waved her hand, her eyes sparkling. “Alright, alright! Let’s get started now~”
She winked at Xiao Li.
Xiao Li understood immediately and flew back over, this time settling directly on Su Xinxin’s notebook. She even cast a watchful glance at the soundly sleeping Xiao Ming nearby—a perfect imitation of an invigilator in an examination hall.
“What is the title for a Jacaranda Division Magical Girl of the third tier?”
“Blooming…” Su Xinxin stopped mid-sentence, a slight frown creasing her brow. “No, it’s Guardian.”
“What is the title for a lower SR-grade ‘Corrosion’?”
“Calamity? Oh, it’s Calamity Prototype. Calamity should be for a mid-grade SR-grade ‘Corrosion’.”
“The Greenwood Division’s—”
“Huh?” Su Xinxin was momentarily stunned. “Do I need to remember the ranks of other divisions too?”
“No, no,” Jasmin waved her hand. “I’m asking about the leader of the Greenwood Division, who is their Chief Director?”
“This needs to be remembered too?” Su Xinxin pondered. “Is it Pine? Pine Tree?”
“What is the title for the ‘Spirit’ of the Hundred Grains Division? What kind of small animal are they?”
“The Jacaranda Division has Flower Spirits and Lop-Eared Rabbits. The Hundred Grains Division…” Su Xinxin paused again. “Grain Spirit? Oh! It’s Grain Soul! The small animals are small rodents, like hamsters, voles, squirrels, and so on.”
“Which department within the organization is responsible for rank promotions and combat power evaluations?”
“Flower Appraisal.”
“What is the independent intelligence alliance that collaborates closely with the organization?”
“Cicada.”
“What is the general name for the Magical Girl Organization? What are its functions?”
“The Spirit Plant Council. It’s a cross-organizational coordination body where each ‘Division’ maintains independent operations but engages in intelligence sharing and joint actions when facing threats of SSR-grade ‘Cataclysm’ or UR-grade ‘Annihilation’.”
“What is the core philosophy of the Harmonization Faction?”
“Utility and Order. They are not bound by formalities, taking ‘reliably neutralizing threats with minimal social disruption’ as their primary principle. They flexibly choose between purification or suppression based on the type and circumstances of the ‘Corrosion’.”
Su Xinxin was still intently awaiting Jasmin’s next question, but instead, she saw a look of profound satisfaction spread across Jasmin’s face.
“Full marks!” she clapped her hands. “Though your answering speed was just a tiny bit slow~”
It was… over already?
Su Xinxin’s mouth parted slightly, a little stunned herself.
Jasmin rose from her seat and began pacing the room with her hands behind her back, adopting a mature demeanor:
“Furthermore, the content I didn’t emphasize for memorization isn’t meant to be ignored entirely. Rather, it should be memorized gradually, slowly, and systematically. Start with the key knowledge, then use those key points to link and coordinate other information. That’s how you achieve high efficiency. Even though those aren’t the main points, what if they appear as a surprise question? What would you do then?”
Jasmin nodded to herself, quite pleased with her ‘teaching summary’, then clapped her hands in congratulations.
Xiao Li also stood up from the notebook, her tiny paws patting together in applause.
The clapping even woke up Xiao Ming, who had been sleeping nearby.
She now groggily lifted her head, ears drooping, eyes unfocused, looking utterly bewildered, as if asking, ‘Who am I, where am I?’
Su Xinxin looked at the two lively mischief-makers, one large and one small, then at Jasmin’s face, which was practically screaming, ‘Praise me!’ A sudden sense of unreality washed over her.
She really… knew it all?
“I really know it all?” Su Xinxin couldn’t help but voice her question. She hadn’t felt very confident about it, thinking she wouldn’t be able to remember everything.
“Yes!” Jasmin nodded vigorously. “Excellent! I think you’re good on the theoretical part, no problem there. As for the practical side~ we practiced yesterday, so that should be fine too.”
She walked back to Su Xinxin, reaching out to pat her shoulder.
“Now, go home early, get some rest, and prepare for tomorrow’s assessment.”
Su Xinxin looked at her.
She saw those bright, sparkling eyes, full of anticipation.
She recalled the past month of training, the knowledge points she thought she couldn’t remember, the clumsy movements from practicing ‘Corrosion’ purification yesterday, and the afternoon walks hand-in-hand with Jasmin in Emerald Lake Park a few days prior.
She nodded.
“Thank you, Mentor Jasmin,” she said, her voice soft, yet imbued with confidence. “I will definitely pass the assessment.”
Jasmin paused, then smiled, and spoke again.
“Of course! You were trained by me, after all!”
After bidding farewell to Jasmin, Su Xinxin headed home, feeling that the weather today was quite pleasant.
Regardless, this period had been quite fulfilling and joyful.
Tomorrow would be the day of the assessment.
