Chapter 73: The Demoness’s Pursuit

Observing the woman who had suddenly appeared at the cave entrance, Ye Cha calmly retreated a few steps. Simultaneously, he swiftly retrieved a veiled bamboo hat from his spatial ring, effectively concealing his face.

At a time like this, Ye Cha had no desire for his appearance to become a liability or to draw the brawny woman’s attention.

Given that the formidable woman had made a direct beeline for Wang Li the moment she appeared, it was evident that he was her sole target.

While her entrance wasn’t particularly unusual, the sight of numerous sharp spikes protruding from her back, resembling an old general bristling with battle flags, immediately suggested she was no ordinary person.

What’s more, the very spikes that had attacked Wang Li had originated from her back!

What normal cultivator would possess such a savage method of artifact refinement?

Odd patterns adorned the brawny woman’s face, and her features seemed peculiar. She gave off the impression of an incomplete human evolution, exhibiting primitive, almost atavistic traits.

Witnessing this, Ye Cha’s mind instantly gravitated towards the concept of demon eggs, swiftly connecting it to the brawny woman’s true identity.

The Demon Race!!!

Damn it, he had just been praying that the demon race wouldn’t find them so quickly, yet here they were, after such a short time.

Did they have to be so fast?

As Wang Li saw the numerous spikes hurtling towards him, his body instinctively raised the demon egg he held in front of him.

Immediately, the dozen or so spikes seemed to gain eyes, swerving abruptly to avoid Wang Li and flying past him on either side.

They plunged silently into the solid rock without the slightest pause, slicing through it as effortlessly as a knife through tofu.

“You human thief, quickly return the scorpion egg to me, or this old granny will make you suffer beyond measure!”

When the brawny woman spoke, her voice resonated like a booming bell. To Ye Cha’s ears, it was akin to thunder, causing a painful ringing in his ears.

Wang Li, jolted back to reality, quickly clutched the demon egg tighter. He inwardly cursed his terrible luck!

He had finally found a demon egg, a potential bargaining chip, only for the demon race to actively seek him out. This was truly awful luck!

‘No, I can’t give this egg away.’

‘If the demon egg is gone, my life will be forfeit!’

Recalling the rumors of the demon race’s penchant for slaughtering humans, Wang Li grew even more anxious, terrified that the woman at the cave entrance would disregard everything and attack him again.

Those dozen spikes earlier had left him, a mere Qi Condensation cultivator, no time to react. He was fortunate that his body had instinctively moved to protect itself, and that the demon egg happened to be in his hand. Otherwise, he would have been dead by now.

Life and death hung by a thread.

Wang Li, having narrowly escaped, now had cold sweat beading on his forehead, and his legs trembled uncontrollably. However, concealed by his outer robe, his fear was not overtly apparent.

“This egg isn’t yours! You just said it was a scorpion egg, so you must be a hedgehog demon! Since it’s not your egg either, we should compete fairly. Why should I give you an egg I found?”

Despite Wang Li’s lingering fear, the thought of Ke Qian resting deeper within the cave instantly restored much of his courage.

Even though he had previously feared Ke Qian’s cold indifference, facing the far more terrifying demon race now, Ke Qian felt like an anchor, swiftly calming Wang Li’s panicked heart.

Ke Qian’s cultivation was formidable; dealing with the demon race would certainly be no challenge for them. With this realization, Wang Li’s legs stopped trembling, and he spoke with newfound boldness.

“Stop your nonsense! How dare you steal something from the demon race? You truly have a death wish!”

The brawny woman glared at the egg in Wang Li’s arms. Despite her harsh words, she remained rooted to the spot, fearful that provoking Wang Li might lead him to smash the egg in a fit of desperation, ruining everything.

She had gone to great lengths to track the pregnant Lu Poison Scorpions. These scorpion eggs were incredibly precious, and not a single one could be damaged!

After all, this concerned the progress of the Demon King’s cultivation technique. Once the King successfully broke through the technique’s barrier, they could lead the demon army to conquer human territories, securing maximum benefits for the demon race!

The thought of the demon race occupying territories rich in cultivation resources ignited a fervent excitement within Bai Ling. When she looked at Wang Li again, she found him utterly repulsive.

Though male demons were scarce, with females making up the majority—and some females, tormented by their estrus, would secretly seek out humans for relief—Bai Ling had always disdained human men. They were overly sentimental and lacked the robust charm of male demons.

Such men were best sent to the Mantis Tribe, to be eaten immediately after mating, ending everything swiftly. Regardless of what creature the Mantis Tribe mated with, their offspring would always be little mantises.

Mating with humans could avoid the loss of male demons, a truly brilliant strategy with triple benefits. Unfortunately, the Mantis Tribe shared her preferences and likewise disliked frail human men.

Furthermore, the Mantis Tribe was renowned for their slender waists, attracting countless males seeking their favor. This led to many male demons dying at the mantises’ hands each year, prompting female demons to collectively protest, demanding an end to the Mantis Tribe’s continued slaughter of males!

However, due to the males’ voluntary participation, the matter eventually died down without resolution. Thinking of all this, Bai Ling’s gaze at Wang Li grew even more hostile. She yearned to simply knock him unconscious and deliver him to the Mantis Tribe’s bed.

Whether it worked or not, she would throw him there first!

“Don’t come any closer! Otherwise, I’ll smash the egg, and you won’t get it!”

Seeing the fierce glint in Bai Ling’s eyes, Wang Li, who had just calmed down, became anxious once more. He hugged the demon egg tightly, taking two small steps back, cautiously guarding against a sudden attack.

Watching Wang Li clutch the egg to his chest, Bai Ling realized that with her weakness in someone else’s hands, she was constrained and couldn’t resolve the issue immediately.

If this dragged on, making the King wait too long, the fault would be hers. Moreover, it would diminish her standing in the King’s eyes, earning her the label of incompetence.

Considering these consequences, Bai Ling immediately made up her mind: she would use that rare talisman array. One couldn’t catch a wolf without sacrificing a pup. Once she retrieved the scorpion egg, she would definitely take this man back and deliver him to the Mantis Tribe’s members for their amusement.

As these thoughts crossed her mind, a talisman instantly appeared in Bai Ling’s hand, which was hidden behind her back. After rapidly activating the array within it, time in the cave seemed to freeze.

Immediately, Bai Ling swiftly advanced and snatched the egg from Wang Li’s embrace. With a vicious kick, she sent him sprawling to the ground.

The next second, the talisman’s effect vanished, and time in the cave resumed its normal flow.

Upon quickly realizing that the demon egg in his arms had disappeared, Wang Li’s face blanched with shock. He then looked up at the brawny woman’s malevolent gaze, which instantly filled his heart with panic, his pulse hammering like a drum.

“Don’t kill me! You… you should go find Ye Cha, he’s much better looking than I am! Help! I don’t want to die!”

Finally, Wang Li collapsed onto the ground in a desperate cry, simultaneously pointing at Ye Cha, who was steadily retreating deeper into the cave. Ye Cha couldn’t help but curse under his breath.
