Chapter 79: The Ghost Market Awaits

Ke Qian and Ye Cha sat within the carriage, while Wang Li, his hand half-severed, skillfully guided the horses. The trio hastened towards the small town ahead, preparing to attend the ghost market that would commence after nightfall.

Due to Ke Qian’s worsening internal injuries, Ye Cha vehemently shook his head at the suggestion of continuing their journey by sword flight. He insisted on using a carriage as their mode of transport, preventing Ke Qian from expending any unnecessary energy.

After all, they simply needed to reach the town before dark. With no urgent matters pressing them, traveling by carriage was perfectly acceptable.

Ye Cha, despite being a cultivator, did not disdain such a humble mode of transport. If he were back in his previous life, riding a carriage like this would have cost a considerable sum at a tourist attraction!

Now, all it took was a roadside robbery to acquire a carriage.

It was hardly a difficult feat.

To possess such an easy solution and not utilize it would simply be foolish.

Given Ke Qian’s current condition, prudence was paramount.

Though a starved camel was still larger than a horse, Ke Qian was like a fragile glass doll, poised to shatter into fragments with the slightest exertion.

Ye Cha glanced at Ke Qian, who was currently circulating her cultivation technique to heal her injuries. He then turned his head to gaze out the window.

He watched as trees rapidly receded into the distance with the carriage’s forward motion, and several unknown birds circled the carriage a few times before finally disappearing behind it.

‘Ah, it’s been a long time since I felt this relaxed,’ he thought.

Logically, after Ke Qian’s injury, without powerful protection, he should have been even more cautious and tense. Yet, watching this scene, he suddenly felt a profound sense of relief.

It had been so long since he had simply relaxed and admired the scenery.

Upon reflection, ever since entering the Lingtian Sect, he had felt like a bird confined to a cage.

Although he had ultimately chosen to hide in the Lingtian Sect to find peace from the endless troubles of the Ye family, Ye Cha had been reluctant to leave his stepmother behind.

Even if it meant being forced to marry the Ye family head’s daughter…

Though the family head’s daughter was notoriously promiscuous, she had been a childhood playmate, a relationship akin to childhood sweethearts. Moreover, due to Ye Cha’s striking looks, he had always had the upper hand, never suffering any disadvantage.

However, his stepmother had staunchly refused to compromise with the Ye family’s coercion.

When the Lingtian Sect arrived at the Ye family to select disciples, everyone assumed that Ye Cha’s exceptional looks would earn him special treatment. Yet, he knew this was not the primary reason.

Instead, it was a lavish gift his mother had sent, one that made the selecting elder grin from ear to ear.

Ye Cha had never found anything wrong with his outstanding appearance, but he also understood that even with peerless beauty, one couldn’t have everything they desired.

Everything required effort, just as with women. One needed a few subtle techniques to firmly capture their hearts.

Only then would they be devoted, becoming his aid in advancing and breaking through all obstacles.

If he possessed superior talent and powerful cultivation, Ye Cha would never have used his looks as a weapon. Instead, he would have confidently relied on his own strength to silence those chattering small-minded people.

However, in his current state, lacking both ability and a powerful family background – with only an orphan and a widow to his name – he had no other choice.

Thus, Ye Cha followed his stepmother’s advice and entered the Lingtian Sect.

He was unwilling at first, but what else could he do?

It was only later, upon discovering his Heavenly Net Body, that Ye Cha felt like a bird with a chain shackled to its leg. Even if the cage door opened, he couldn’t flap his wings and leave.

He could, however, curry favor with his master, exchanging a simple cage for one of gilded gold.

Now, it was again because of his Heavenly Net Body that he was irresistibly forced to leave the Lingtian Sect… He had already become a registered disciple of the Sect Master, and with a little more effort, becoming a direct disciple wouldn’t have been impossible.

To abandon such a promising future, anyone would find it regrettable!

Yet, at this moment, he felt profoundly relaxed. Although he had once regretted and resented his fate, now he felt as though he had finally broken free from his shackles and cage, soaring into a vast and novel world outside.

After leaving the Lingtian Sect, not only had he witnessed the outside scenery, but he had also encountered the persistent Zi Linglong and the demon race, who had previously only existed in others’ tales.

Thinking back to the demonesses he met in the cave, the first robust woman seemed to have muscles for brains and wasn’t a difficult opponent. It was the second demoness who suddenly appeared that truly struck him.

Wild. Powerful. Beautiful. Untamed.

Upon their first meeting, these words flooded his mind.

Such an unforgettable woman, besides Shen Ruotong and Zi Linglong, not even Ke Qian could compare.

Now, this demoness became the third.

Fortunately, he had been wearing his bamboo hat, preventing the demoness from seeing his true face. He presumed there would be no further opportunities for them to meet.

Regrettably, when he first saw the demoness, an urgent impulse to open the embroidered pouch had suddenly surged within him.

He remembered his stepmother telling him to open the pouch if he ever encountered *that* woman.

Now, that impulse had vanished…

Ye Cha’s thoughts drifted to the woman’s fiery red hair and the horns upon her head. His gaze out the carriage window gradually blurred as his mind began to wander aimlessly.

“We’ve arrived.”

At that moment, Wang Li’s voice suddenly rang out, snapping Ye Cha from his reverie. He looked out the window again, noticing signs of life beginning to appear.

They had finally reached the town.

****

Upon reaching their destination, the trio chose a random inn as their lodging. As dusk gradually settled, they emerged from the inn, preparing to attend the ghost market that evening.

After Ye Cha had directly severed half of his palm, Wang Li had considered filing a complaint. However, when Ke Qian saw his severed hand, she remained utterly indifferent.

Witnessing her reaction, Wang Li knew in his heart that telling Ke Qian would be useless.

‘That scoundrel Ye Cha!’

He had completely bewitched Ke Qian, leaving Wang Li with no hope of a fair outcome.

Therefore, Wang Li could only swallow his anger, biding his time until they reached the Ziyan Sect. There, he would use *that thing* to connect with a more powerful cultivator, then properly teach both Ye Cha and Ke Qian a lesson, those despicable wretches!

His severed hand would certainly be avenged!

And it would be repaid tenfold.

“Second Senior Sister, are we really going in?”

“Exactly! Last time, I suddenly fainted in the inn and woke up in someone else’s room. I was truly terrified!”

“Perhaps we encountered a ghost!”

As Ye Cha and the others rapidly approached the ghost market entrance, several chattering voices suddenly rang out. Hearing them, Ye Cha’s eyebrows involuntarily quirked upward. He hadn’t expected to run into old acquaintances!

The four female cultivators they had encountered at the inn last time were now standing there, completely unharmed.

Seeing them, Ye Cha suddenly thought of Zi Linglong, who had led the demoness away. He wondered where she was now.
