Chapter 66: A Troublesome Pursuit

As Ye Cha uttered the name Zi Linglong, the woman herself stood right beside him.

Zi Linglong was astonished that Ye Cha had discerned her presence so swiftly. ‘This man’s mind is truly meticulous and perceptive!’ she mused.

Yet, upon reflection, her actions just moments ago—poking him—had been quite blatant.

‘Hmm, next time I lay a hand on Ye Cha, I’ll need to employ some countermeasures beforehand.’

Despite Ye Cha revealing her presence, Zi Linglong showed no immediate intention of retreating. Instead, she calmly found a spot to sit, completely devoid of panic.

In her transparent state, only Ye Cha could perceive and touch her. To Zi Linglong, everyone else posed no threat whatsoever.

Consequently, under these circumstances, Zi Linglong remained utterly unperturbed.

“Ghost cultivator Zi Linglong!”

However, the moment Ke Qian heard the name Zi Linglong, she instantly understood who Ye Cha was referring to.

This realization tightened a knot in Ke Qian’s chest; she knew they could no longer stay in this inn and had to leave as soon as possible.

Zi Linglong harbored an intense aversion to male cultivators. Though Ke Qian was unaware of the history between her and Ye Cha, being targeted by Zi Linglong, no matter how one looked at it, was never a good sign.

“It isn’t Zi Linglong herself, but merely a clone. She hasn’t made a move against me even now, so she likely won’t kill me immediately. There’s no need to worry too much.”

Compared to Ke Qian’s palpable tension, Ye Cha appeared unbothered. He patiently reassured her, helping her racing heart quickly settle.

It wasn’t that Ye Cha wasn’t afraid; it was simply that fear wouldn’t solve anything.

The enmity between him and Zi Linglong ran deep.

To resolve it would require his death.

Thus, Ye Cha stopped dwelling on the matter. The best course of action now was to reach the Ziyan Sect as soon as possible. Along the way, Ye Cha had heard Ke Qian mention that the Ziyan Sect’s leader was a powerful female cultivator, no weaker than Shen Ruotong.

Zi Linglong had not dared to directly assault the Lingtian Sect back then, nor would she have the courage to do anything to the Ziyan Sect now.

As for the rumors about the Ziyan Sect harming male cultivators, they paled in comparison to being targeted by Zi Linglong, a woman with a pathological hatred for men.

At the very least, the Ziyan Sect leader did not detest men. This meant Ye Cha’s worst possible outcome would be to become a human cauldron, not to lose his life outright.

For Ye Cha, his own life was paramount; everything else came second.

Indeed, everything required comparison. Upon leaving the Lingtian Sect, Ye Cha had been considerably wary of the Ziyan Sect, but now, encountering Zi Linglong, the Ziyan Sect seemed like paradise.

“Even so, we cannot stay here. Let’s continue our journey.”

“Mm.”

At this point, Ke Qian had completely forgotten about the four female cultivators lying on the ground. Seeing that Ye Cha did not object to her decision, she called out to the bewildered Wang Li, and the three continued their journey through the night.

However, due to Ke Qian’s unhealed internal injuries, even a brief rest couldn’t sustain her for long. After three days and three nights of continuous travel, the trio finally sought refuge in a cave to rest.

Although Ke Qian had not informed Wang Li of her injuries, her increasingly pale complexion was impossible to hide, causing Wang Li’s desire to escape to stir restlessly.

Now, with Ke Qian cultivating deep within the cave, only he and Ye Cha remained near the entrance.

Without Ke Qian’s watchful eye, Wang Li felt this was an opportune moment to flee.

Yet, the thought of the potent poison coursing through his veins immediately extinguished his nascent plans.

If only he could detoxify himself, he would undoubtedly escape at the first opportunity.

‘What a pity…’

Lost in these thoughts, Wang Li poked the campfire with a branch. As he watched the orange-red flames dance, he turned his head to glance at Ye Cha, who was meditating with closed eyes, and his irritation grew.

Immediately after leaving the Lingtian Sect, Wang Li had placed all his hopes on Ye Cha, anticipating that Ye Cha would obtain an antidote from Ke Qian and escape, allowing him to benefit and finally break free from the demonic seductress that was Ke Qian.

However, seeing Ye Cha’s lack of action, Wang Li suddenly realized he might have been overthinking things.

Perhaps Ye Cha genuinely intended to follow Ke Qian.

Though he couldn’t fathom why Ye Cha would do so, Wang Li knew he could no longer pin all his hopes on Ye Cha. He needed to devise other strategies.

‘One shouldn’t put all their eggs in one basket.’

‘Relying on others is not as good as relying on oneself.’

With these thoughts swirling in his mind, Wang Li grew increasingly restless. He decided to speak, addressing Ye Cha, “Ye Cha, I’m going out for a walk to clear my head. Keep an eye on the fire here.”

Without waiting for Ye Cha’s reaction, he immediately rose and left the cave, walking towards the distance under the starlit sky.

Staying cooped up in the cave wouldn’t yield any good solutions.

‘Perhaps stepping out will lead to a fortuitous encounter that can change this dire situation.’

Ye Cha merely watched Wang Li’s receding figure, not taking his departure to heart. He simply closed his eyes and continued to rest.

In her haste to escape Zi Linglong, Ke Qian had expended her remaining energy, necessitating a considerable period of rest. They wouldn’t be able to resume their journey until tomorrow at the earliest.

Though Ye Cha had suggested they could fly on their swords, Ke Qian had flatly refused, believing that even with her internal injuries, her travel speed was still many times faster than both Ye Cha and Wang Li combined.

Ye Cha simply chuckled at Ke Qian’s somewhat domineering mentality. He didn’t press the issue, instead nodding in agreement.

Such obedience pleased Ke Qian, yet she was anxious to recover her strength and reach the Ziyan Sect as soon as possible.

To that end, she would spare no expense, even if it meant depleting her cultivation.

Ye Cha found Ke Qian’s efforts to mend her physical damage unsurprising. Therefore, they only needed to wait one day before they could set off again.

However, despite three days having passed, Ye Cha couldn’t shake the feeling that shaking off Zi Linglong wouldn’t be so easy.

Zi Linglong also possessed a troublesome invisibility state, making any attempt to guard against her virtually impossible.

‘Such a pain.’

As Ye Cha pondered Zi Linglong’s current whereabouts, a wisp of white smoke silently rose from the campfire. Carried by the wind from the cave entrance, it drifted towards Ye Cha, swiftly entering his body with his breath.

The next moment, Ye Cha saw double images of the two campfires before him. Before a question could even form in his mind, he immediately collapsed to the ground, unconscious.

Everything happened too quickly, like a small pebble dropping into the vast ocean, stirring hardly a ripple.

By the time the transparent Zi Linglong swiftly approached Ye Cha, she gazed at his unconscious form, her lips curving into an uncontrollable smile. She knew that this time, no matter what she did, Ye Cha wouldn’t discover it.

With this thought, Zi Linglong’s gaze swept over Ye Cha’s body, finally resting on a certain indescribable area. She bit her lip in a moment of internal struggle before ultimately making up her mind.

‘If I want to uncover the truth, I must be willing to go all out.’
