Chapter 71: The Demon Egg and Dire Premonitions

Ye Cha’s knowledge of the demon race was solely based on hearsay.

He had heard that demons were monstrously ugly, possessed boundless strength, viewed humans as enemies, and reveled in slaughter. Essentially, all the information he’d ever received about them was negative.

Most notably, demons were said to be fond of massacring humans.

Apart from powerful cultivators, anyone who encountered a demon was sure to meet a grim end.

Combining these rumors, Ye Cha had pieced together an image in his mind: a creature akin to a Titan Gorilla from an online game.

The vivid picture immediately materialized before him.

However, despite their ferocity, demons typically confined themselves to specific territories. Any demon found among cultivators, aside from Greater Demons, was usually a lost or overly curious Lesser Demon.

Therefore, when Ye Cha heard that Wang Li possessed something related to demons, his first instinct wasn’t curiosity; it was a strong desire to distance himself from Wang Li.

‘Is Wang Li’s brain hollow?’ he wondered.

‘Knowing it’s a demon egg, why wouldn’t he just look at it and leave it be? What possessed him to bring it back?’

‘Does he truly believe he can gain an advantage over a Greater Demon?’

‘Wang Li should take a long look in a mirror! Where does he get the confidence to think he can outsmart a Greater Demon?’

Demons possessed inherently formidable bodies. A Greater Demon roaming human territory, if it truly came seeking retribution, would likely be more than Ke Qian, still recovering from her internal injuries, could handle.

‘Or perhaps Wang Li intends to throw caution to the wind, deliberately luring a Greater Demon to fight Ke Qian while he watches from the sidelines…’

For a moment, as Ye Cha stared at the dark, ominous egg, a myriad of thoughts swirled in his mind.

“How about that? I knew you’d never seen a demon egg before!”

Seeing Ye Cha’s stunned expression, Wang Li’s heart swelled with triumph. ‘So what if Ye Cha can charm women into a frenzy?’ he thought. ‘Without them, he’s nothing!’

‘I, on the other hand, am blessed with incredible luck; I am destined to be the protagonist!’

Earlier, the anxiety of his impending entry into the Ziyan Sect had prevented Wang Li from finding peace. He had wandered outside the cave, hoping to stumble upon some fortuitous encounter that might resolve his predicament.

And, remarkably, he had found one!

With this demon egg, he could present it to Ke Qian or another influential figure within the Ziyan Sect as a token of his loyalty. This would alleviate his worries, ensuring he faced no significant danger.

Though Wang Li had been desperate to escape earlier, finding this egg brought a sudden realization.

His departure was no longer his decision; it rested entirely on Ke Qian’s willingness to let him go.

Given the current circumstances, the likelihood of her releasing him was so vanishingly small that it offered no hope.

Therefore, Wang Li had faced reality, understanding that his best course of action was to proactively pledge his allegiance. Unlike Ye Cha, who possessed an undeniable allure for women, he had to find another approach. This demon egg had arrived at the perfect moment.

As for whether a Greater Demon might come searching for it, Wang Li couldn’t concern himself with such matters. If it meant saving his life, nothing else mattered.

“I think you should put the demon egg back. Don’t cause any more trouble,” Ye Cha said earnestly, interrupting Wang Li’s pleasant reverie and pulling his thoughts back to reality.

Wang Li scoffed at Ye Cha’s words, convinced that the other man was merely consumed by envy and jealousy.

Such heaven-defying luck, finding a demon egg just by walking out the door, was not something everyone could possess.

Put the egg back?

‘Dream on!’

This egg was intimately tied to his future; absolutely nothing could go wrong with it.

“Hmph, this is something I found. It’s mine now!” Wang Li snorted, then pulled his hand back, no longer allowing Ye Cha to gaze at the dark egg. He wrapped it several times in a piece of cloth and clutched it tightly to his chest, fearing someone might snatch it away.

Storage bags could only hold inanimate objects. Placing a living creature inside would result in it being dead upon retrieval.

Since this egg harbored a nascent demon, it naturally couldn’t be casually stored in a spatial artifact.

Thus, Wang Li had to carry it with him, taking care not to bump or drop it.

Watching Wang Li’s meticulous attentiveness, Ye Cha knew that a few mere words wouldn’t be enough to persuade him to change his mind.

At this juncture, he couldn’t simply drive Wang Li away, especially with Ke Qian still recovering.

Ye Cha could only sigh silently, wondering if his decision to venture out this time had been a mistake.

First, there was the peculiar Zi Linglong, and now, a dark demon egg.

He had an unsettling feeling that even greater troubles awaited him.

Ye Cha had never doubted his sixth sense. Even before his transmigration, when his ex-girlfriend had stabbed him in the heart, he’d had a premonition, but tragically, he hadn’t heeded it. That oversight had led to the catastrophe.

Given this, Ye Cha felt he had to prepare for the worst, to be ready for any sudden dangers that might arise.

“Are demons egg-laying creatures?” Ye Cha asked, a flicker of curiosity in his eyes, as he looked at the egg in Wang Li’s arms, having failed to dissuade him.

Normally, even if Ye Cha had asked, Wang Li would have been indifferent.

However, Wang Li’s excitement hadn’t faded; he was still in a boastful mood. Hearing Ye Cha’s question, a smug expression immediately appeared in his eyes before he finally answered.

“Not necessarily. Egg-laying demons are typically of the serpent or scorpion variety. Others give birth like humans, though their gestation periods are incredibly long. I’ve heard some demons need to be pregnant for ten years.”

“In that case, wouldn’t the demon population be sparse, giving human cultivators the upper hand?”

“How could that be? While their gestation is long, they make up for it by having many offspring! Take this egg I found, for instance; it must have at least ten siblings or more.”

Listening to Wang Li’s explanation, Ye Cha gained new knowledge.

Demons…

While he was curious if demons truly resembled Titan Gorillas, Ye Cha sincerely hoped they wouldn’t encounter any on this journey.

Safety first, curiosity second.

“My King, one of the Luodu Black Scorpion eggs is missing. Your subordinate detected the scent of a human near where the scorpion eggs were hidden.”

Perched atop a cliff, a powerfully built woman spoke, her voice booming like a bell, startling the small birds resting in the surrounding shrubs, which quickly scattered to find new refuge.

The individual addressed as ‘My King’ sat on the cliff’s edge, moonlight dappling her form, softening her otherwise neutral and heroic features. Several fireflies rested on the red horns protruding from her head, creating a beautiful, captivating sight against the night sky.

Yet, her crimson eyes reflected the darkness, gleaming with the fierce intensity of a predator poised to strike.

“Find that human, and show no mercy!”
