Join the ServerWatching the children nearby laughing and chasing each other, Lin Yang suddenly felt that perhaps the system wasn’t entirely wrong.
“So I really am attending a kindergarten…”
“At least everyone around me is certainly a bunch of little kids.”
He took out the Wudang Foundational Internal Cultivation Manual and slowly opened it.
The moment he flipped to the first page, he calmed his mind and prepared to study it carefully.
Then…
His face gradually became blank.
Leaning back against the tree trunk, he let the manual fall over his face.
A miserable groan escaped his mouth.
“I’m doomed…”
When he’d been learning to read through the Daoist scriptures, he hadn’t noticed anything unusual.
But now that he actually had to understand the meaning conveyed by those characters…
He realized things weren’t nearly so simple.
He recognized every single character in the book.
Yet once they were combined into sentences…
They became unbelievably obscure.
Far more difficult than the Classical Chinese he’d studied in his previous life.
“Seriously!”
“Who wrote this thing?”
“Are you sure this is meant for someone my age?”
“Anyone reading this would practically suffer qi deviation even without cultivating!”
After complaining about the author…
Lin Yang couldn’t help turning his frustration toward the Academic Genius System.
“System!”
“Can’t you install a super brain into my head or something?”
“Or at least help me understand this manual!”
“I can’t even comprehend Classical Chinese at this level.”
“I feel too stupid to deserve the words ‘Academic Genius.'”
Unfortunately…
His complaints received no response whatsoever.
After venting for a while…
He could only grit his teeth and begin reading the manual from beginning to end.
Then he read it again.
And again.
Unable to understand it, he resorted to brute-force memorization until he could recite every word by heart.
…
Early the next morning…
With Daoist Lin’s special permission, Lin Yang no longer had to attend the ordinary novices’ morning lessons.
Instead, he was allowed to spend that time nurturing the qi and blood within his body.
Finding a quiet corner, he slowly practiced the customized version of the Daoist Eight Brocades he had created for himself.
Guided by the movement of qi and blood throughout his body…
He modified the routine once again.
Tiny adjustment after tiny adjustment.
The newly strengthened qi and blood flowed at high speed under the guidance of each movement.
His internal organs operated more efficiently while constantly nourished by the circulating vitality.
His entire body felt as though it were soaking in warm water.
Comfortable.
Gentle.
Relaxing.
When the morning lesson and Eight Brocades practice ended…
Daoist Lin led the other children down the mountain for their daily farm work as usual.
Lin Yang quietly walked over beside him.
“Master…”
Daoist Lin stood with his hands behind his back, watching the novices working in the fields.
Without looking away, he asked,
“What is it?”
“Found something you don’t understand?”
Lin Yang let out a deep sigh.
“I don’t understand any of it.”
“What?”
Daoist Lin’s voice suddenly rose.
“I said…”
“I don’t understand any of it!”
Lin Yang shouted back just as loudly.
The nearby novices all turned to look.
Realizing the attention they were attracting, Daoist Lin immediately lowered his voice.
“I remember you’ve already finished studying all five thousand characters of the Dao De Jing.”
“So…”
“Which characters in the manual can’t you recognize?”
Lin Yang rolled his eyes.
“I know every single character.”
“I just have absolutely no idea what they mean once they’re put together.”
As he spoke…
He silently cursed the author of the manual again.
…
At that very moment…
Deep within Wudang Mountain’s rear peaks…
An elderly man with snow-white hair and beard suddenly sneezed.
He rubbed his nose.
“Who the hell is cursing me?”
After pondering for a moment, he carefully reviewed every enemy he had made throughout his life.
Unfortunately…
Nearly all of them had either been killed by him…
Or had already died of old age.
“So who’s talking behind my back?”
Unable to think of anyone, the old man eventually shook his head and immersed himself once more in contemplating the Dao.
His attention returned to researching the new cultivation method he was creating.
…
“So…”
“You can’t understand it.”
Daoist Lin slowly smiled.
Looking at Lin Yang with amusement, he teased,
“So even you have things you don’t understand?”
“I thought you were some extraordinary genius.”
Lin Yang glanced sideways at him.
“What was that, dear nephew?”
Daoist Lin’s mouth twitched.
His face darkened.
“Lin San!”
“I’ve told you before!”
“Stop bringing up family seniority!”
“Then teach me properly.”
“Quit fooling around.”
“Otherwise…”
Lin Yang grinned mischievously.
“Hmph.”
Daoist Lin ground his teeth.
“You little brat…”
Unfortunately…
There was little he could do.
He couldn’t hit him.
He couldn’t out-argue him.
With a helpless sigh, he snatched the cultivation manual from Lin Yang’s hands.
Dragging him over to a large stone nearby, they both sat down.
Patiently…
Sentence by sentence…
He explained the meaning hidden within every line of the manual.
Although Daoist Lin still felt somewhat annoyed…
His explanations were meticulous.
One lesson became two.
Two became several.
After seven or eight days of intermittent instruction…
Lin Yang finally understood every mystery contained within the foundational cultivation method.
According to his own interpretation…
The manual consisted of two essential parts.
The first involved mental guidance.
One had to consciously guide one’s qi and blood toward the lower dantian.
This process was called…
Sinking the Qi into the Dantian.
Once successful, a gentle warmth would naturally arise there.
The second part involved breathing techniques.
The purpose of controlled breathing wasn’t merely to inhale the fresh and exhale the stale.
Instead…
The lungs acted as the primary driver.
Through a specific breathing rhythm, they stimulated all five internal organs and six bowels.
That movement influenced the circulation of qi and blood.
Which, in turn…
Activated the dantian.
Together…
They generated a unique internal resonance.
When these two processes were perfectly synchronized…
The qi and blood gathered within the dantian underwent a mysterious transformation.
They were compressed.
Refined.
And ultimately…
Converted into internal energy.
That…
Was the basic process of cultivating internal energy.
Of course…
This was merely Lin Yang’s modern interpretation.
The actual wording inside the cultivation manual was vastly more profound and complicated.
Otherwise…
It wouldn’t have taken Daoist Lin more than a week of careful explanation before Lin Yang finally grasped its true principles.
…
“That’s everything.”
“I’ve explained all there is to explain.”
“Is there anything you still don’t understand?”
Inside Daoist Lin’s room, he handed the cultivation manual back to Lin Yang before letting out a long sigh.
Teaching continuously for seven or eight days had been exhausting even for him.
Now that it was finally over…
He felt considerably relieved.
“No.”
“Thank you, Master.”
Lin Yang answered sincerely.
Daoist Lin smiled.
“You only call me ‘Master’ at times like this.”
“Normally you never behave so politely.”
Lin Yang laughed.
“That’s because we’re close.”
“I wouldn’t joke around like this with just anyone.”
“No.”
Daoist Lin immediately waved both hands.
“I can do without this kind of closeness.”
“Hehe.”
“Still grinning?”
Daoist Lin pointed at him helplessly.
“Go back and thoroughly familiarize yourself with the cultivation process.”
“When I have time, I’ll personally oversee your first attempt.”
“Whatever you do…”
“Do not cultivate on your own.”
He emphasized every word.
Then he practically pushed Lin Yang out of the room.
Carrying the cultivation manual…
Lin Yang deliberately avoided the noisy group of young novices.
Instead, he found a secluded place.
Leaning lazily against a large rock…
He silently organized everything he’d learned.
With his ability of inner vision…
Guiding his qi and blood into the dantian wasn’t particularly difficult.
The real challenge…
Was mastering the precise breathing rhythm.
He needed to ensure that every breath caused his internal organs to enter the required state of movement.
Only then could that state guide both his qi and blood and his dantian into the unique resonance described by the manual.
On paper…
It sounded simple.
In practice…
It was anything but.
Even with his extraordinary ability to observe the inside of his own body…
It would still take Lin Yang a long time to fully master it.
