Chapter 20: A New Cultivation Method Takes Shape

A series of notifications rang out from the Top Scholar System.

As Lin Yang absorbed the information, his eyes lit up with delight.

He hadn’t expected that, before he even had the chance to worry about this newly discovered problem, the Top Scholar System would already provide a solution.

The moment the system finished speaking, no visible change occurred.

Yet Lin Yang immediately felt that the meridians throughout his body had become noticeably sturdier.

It was an incredibly strange sensation.

Nothing appeared different from his Inner Vision, yet his meridians simply felt thicker and more resilient than before.

Even the acupoints along them seemed steadier and more stable.

After receiving the system’s reward, Lin Yang immediately resumed refining his new internal cultivation method.

This time, he successfully brought every meridian and every acupoint in his body into the same vibrational frequency.

His qi and blood were rapidly transformed into internal energy.

The internal energy stored within his dantian swelled at an unprecedented rate.

One morning, after completing his cultivation, Lin Yang slowly exhaled.

Feeling the slight fullness within his dantian, a faint smile appeared on his lips.

His dantian was finally filled to capacity.

The next step would be breaking through to the Postnatal Realm.

However, when he examined his body through Inner Vision, he noticed something else.

Over the past month since perfecting his new cultivation method, the speed at which he refined qi and blood had increased dramatically.

With the foundation of qi and blood he had established previously, his body’s production could no longer keep up with the conversion into internal energy.

Although he shared Yu Daiyan’s meals every day—and those meals contained abundant qi and blood nourishment—it still wasn’t enough to sustain the demands of his new cultivation method.

As a result, Lin Yang had gradually begun feeling a persistent weakness throughout his body.

The sensation immediately put him on alert.

It meant that if he continued cultivating this way, his new technique would eventually damage his body’s very foundation.

Qi and blood existed for far more than simply being converted into internal energy.

Their primary role was to nourish every organ in the body.

Once qi and blood became insufficient, the body’s organs would no longer receive the energy they required.

If that happened, the consequences could range from severely damaging one’s vitality to costing one’s life.

Naturally, Lin Yang had no intention of sacrificing his future potential simply to cultivate faster.

That would be an extremely foolish trade.

The solution was simple in theory.

Either reduce consumption…

Or increase supply.

Reducing consumption meant slowing the cultivation speed of his internal cultivation method, decreasing the rate at which internal energy was generated until it matched the body’s natural production of qi and blood.

Doing so would immediately solve the shortage.

But Lin Yang couldn’t accept that solution.

Once he broke through to the Postnatal Realm, his need for internal energy would only continue to grow.

That meant his demand for qi and blood would also increase.

There was no way he would allow his cultivation speed to become slower and slower.

That left only one option.

Increase the source.

He needed to find another way to replenish his qi and blood.

Only then could he continue refining internal energy at his current pace.

And the only person who could help him…

Was his master, Yu Daiyan.

Lin Yang stood up and looked toward Yu Daiyan, who was reclining beneath the eaves.

He silently considered how best to bring up the matter.

His hesitation didn’t escape Yu Daiyan’s notice.

The elder looked at him curiously.

“What is it?”

“Have you encountered some problem with your internal cultivation?”

Yu Daiyan placed great importance on his genius disciple.

Lin Yang nodded before walking over.

“Master, my dantian has begun to feel full.”

“I believe I’ve already reached the maximum amount of internal energy it can hold at my current level.”

Yu Daiyan’s eyes brightened with satisfaction.

“Excellent.”

“Once your dantian feels full, it means you’re ready to begin breaking through to the Postnatal Realm.”

“To reach the Postnatal Realm at only nine years old…”

“That would be an unprecedented record even within Wudang.”

“Looking across the entire martial world, there probably aren’t many who achieved it faster than you.”

“If my master were still here to see such a genius appear within our lineage, he would certainly be delighted.”

Yu Daiyan chuckled softly.

“Go to my study.”

“Underneath my desk, you’ll find the manual describing Wudang’s breakthrough techniques for the Postnatal Realm.”

“Take it and familiarize yourself with it.”

“Once you’ve fully understood it, I’ll arrange for someone to stand guard while you make your breakthrough.”

“Yes, Master.”

Lin Yang nodded and entered the study.

Before long, he found a thin booklet beneath the desk.

Without opening it, he returned to Yu Daiyan.

“Yes, that’s the one.”

Yu Daiyan nodded.

“Go back and study it carefully.”

Then he noticed the hesitant expression still lingering on Lin Yang’s face.

His brows furrowed.

“What is it?”

“Is there something else you haven’t told me?”

“You’re standing here acting all hesitant in front of your own master, like a bashful young girl. There’s no need for that.”

“If you have something to say, then say it.”

“If you have something to ask, then ask.”

“As long as I know the answer, I’ll tell you.”

Since Yu Daiyan had said as much, Lin Yang finally stopped hesitating.

“Master…”

“I’ve been cultivating rather intensely lately, and my qi and blood have been depleted quite severely.”

“Could you help me apply for some medicinal pills that replenish qi and blood?”

“Insufficient qi and blood?”

Yu Daiyan carefully examined him from head to toe.

Sure enough, Lin Yang’s complexion was noticeably paler than before.

The healthy, rosy glow he once had was gone.

Yu Daiyan frowned.

“Although cultivating your internal cultivation method is important, qi and blood are the body’s innate foundation.”

“You must never damage your qi and blood for the sake of cultivation.”

“Once your qi and blood becomes deficient, the harm done to your body can be quite severe.”

“I understand, Master.”

“I simply overdid it these past few days.”

Lin Yang lowered his head as he answered.

Yu Daiyan nodded.

“Very well.”

“I’ll submit a request for some qi-and-blood replenishing pills so you can recover as quickly as possible.”

“But after you break through to the Postnatal Realm, you absolutely cannot cultivate with such impatience again.”

“You’re still growing.”

“If your qi and blood remains deficient, you’ll stunt your own development.”

“When that happens, don’t blame your master for not warning you.”

Yu Daiyan readily agreed to Lin Yang’s request, though he didn’t forget to give him a stern warning.

Lin Yang simply lowered his head without replying.

If all he wanted was a single batch of qi-and-blood replenishing pills, there would’ve been no reason to hesitate.

What he had truly wanted…

Was to request a permanent additional allocation of such pills to support his daily cultivation.

But that would place Yu Daiyan in an awkward position.

After all, Wudang’s supply of medicinal pills was limited.

If Lin Yang continuously received an extra share, there would naturally be fewer pills available for everyone else.

That involved the entire sect’s resource allocation system.

As someone who had yet to contribute any merit to Wudang, such a request simply wasn’t justified.
