Chapter 7: The World of Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber

Hearing the Scholar System’s notification, Lin Yang’s heart stirred slightly as he focused his attention on the tiny sesame-seed-sized drop of internal energy within his dantian.

To his surprise, as his thoughts shifted, the drop of internal energy reacted as well. Though it lagged behind by a brief moment, it slowly began to rotate in accordance with his will.

It was as if he were gently nudging the droplet with his own hand.

As the tiny drop revolved, the surrounding qi and blood began flowing into it at an increasing rate. The speed at which the internal energy grew also gradually accelerated.

When all the qi and blood he had previously guided into his dantian had been completely absorbed, the tiny droplet had expanded into a crystal-clear mass of gaseous energy about the size of a soybean.

Only then did Lin Yang slowly open his eyes.

Daoist Lin watched him finish cultivating and shook his head with a sigh.

“I really envy your talent. If I’d possessed even half of your aptitude back then, I wouldn’t still be stuck guarding the novice courtyard after all these years. I’ve applied several times to be assigned elsewhere, but every request has been rejected.”

Faced with the praise, Lin Yang could only smile awkwardly.

He had never considered himself a genius. After all, even with the Scholar System, it had taken him such a long time just to learn a basic internal cultivation technique.

Still, hearing Daoist Lin praise him left him feeling just a little pleased with himself.

Daoist Lin walked over, laughing as he scolded him.

“Enough pretending. Do you think I don’t know you? If you want to grin, then grin.”

Lin Yang’s smile widened.

“No, no. I’m just an ordinary genius. Nothing like those real prodigies.”

Daoist Lin snorted.

“An ordinary genius? I complimented you once, and your tail’s already sticking up into the sky.”

He pointed a finger at Lin Yang and shook his head helplessly.

His expression soon turned serious.

“Now that you’ve cultivated internal energy, it’s no longer appropriate for you to remain here.

According to Wudang’s rules, you’re now qualified to find a master within the mountain who can formally accept you as a disciple and guide you onto the path of martial arts.

Have you given any thought to it? Is there anyone you’d like to apprentice under?”

Lin Yang frowned slightly before replying,

“Sir, you know my background. I grew up in Lin Village and only came up the mountain when I was six. Since then I’ve stayed in this novice courtyard and have barely been anywhere else.

I hardly know anything about Wudang Mountain.

Why don’t I simply become your disciple? We already know each other, and you’re the one who first introduced me to martial arts. I’d feel perfectly comfortable learning under you.”

Daoist Lin smiled and shook his head.

“You’re no unparalleled prodigy, but you’re still quite gifted.

Someone like me, who has never truly ventured into the martial world, isn’t qualified to teach you. I’d only hold you back.

You should find someone stronger to be your master.”

Lin Yang scratched his head.

Truthfully, he knew almost nothing about Wudang Mountain.

He hadn’t even bothered finding out what era he had been reborn into.

How was he supposed to choose a master when he didn’t even know where to start?

Still, judging by Daoist Lin’s calm expression, Lin Yang knew the old man already had someone in mind.

“Sir, since you’ve clearly thought about this already, why not give me a recommendation?”

Daoist Lin nodded.

“As expected of you.

Since you know so little about Wudang, let me give you a brief introduction.

The founder of Wudang is Grandmaster Zhang Sanfeng. He is the supreme pillar of today’s martial world—the undisputed number one expert alive.

He has roamed the jianghu for decades without ever meeting an equal.

His seven disciples are known throughout the martial world as the Seven Heroes of Wudang, and every one of them is an unfathomably powerful martial artist.”

Before Daoist Lin could continue, Lin Yang’s mind exploded.

“The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber? This is actually that world?”

He should have realized it sooner.

Since there was Wudang Mountain and internal cultivation techniques existed, there was a high probability that he had transmigrated into a martial arts world.

He simply hadn’t had the time to think about it or gather information.

He had never imagined it would actually be the world of The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber.

Unable to stop himself, he muttered,

“Heaven Sword…”

Daoist Lin paused and asked curiously,

“Are you talking about the Heaven Sword?”

Lin Yang immediately came back to his senses and nodded repeatedly.

“Yes, that’s right. The Heaven Sword. I’ve heard of its reputation before. Please continue.”

Daoist Lin gave him a puzzled look, unable to understand why mentioning Wudang had made Lin Yang think of the Heaven Sword.

Still, he didn’t dwell on it.

“Besides Grandmaster Zhang Sanfeng and the Seven Heroes, Wudang also has several hundred martial artists who have successfully cultivated internal energy.

Among them, nearly a hundred have already broken through into the Houtian Realm.

Given your aptitude, you could certainly become the disciple of one of the stronger Houtian experts among them.

I doubt any of them would refuse someone with your talent.”

He stopped speaking for a moment, secretly observing Lin Yang’s reaction.

But Lin Yang’s thoughts were already in turmoil.

The moment he realized he was in the world of The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber, countless famous experts and powerful factions flooded his mind.

Most of all…

The four great beauties.

Zhou Zhiruo.

Zhao Min.

Xiao Zhao.

Yin Li.

“Zhang Wuji… if you don’t want them, then I won’t be polite.”

His imagination ran wild as he pictured himself dominating the jianghu while surrounded by beautiful women.

Just then—

Smack!

Daoist Lin’s palm landed heavily on the back of his head.

Feeling the satisfying impact, the old daoist suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of relief.

“Finally found an excuse to hit this brat. Turns out disciplining him feels this good.”

He even raised his hand, intending to smack him again.

Fortunately, Lin Yang had already snapped back to reality.

Clutching his head, he glared angrily.

“Why did you hit me?”

Daoist Lin answered with a perfectly straight face.

“I was reminding you that you shouldn’t daydream while I’m explaining something so important.

This concerns the path you’ll walk for the rest of your life.”

After clearing his throat, he asked,

“Now then… where was I?”

Lin Yang couldn’t shake the feeling that Daoist Lin had simply wanted revenge.

Unfortunately, the excuse was flawless.

And he really had been daydreaming.

Feeling somewhat guilty, he decided not to argue.

After thinking for a moment, he replied,

“You were saying Wudang has around a hundred Houtian experts, and that I could choose one of the higher-ranked ones as my master.”

Daoist Lin nodded.

“Correct.

But I don’t recommend choosing any of those Houtian experts.”

Seeing Lin Yang’s puzzled expression, he raised his chin proudly.

“As it happens, I know one of the Seven Heroes of Wudang personally.

If you can become his disciple, your future will be limitless.

One day, you might even become someone comparable to the Seven Heroes themselves.”

Lin Yang’s eyes lit up.

Being personally taught by one of the Seven Heroes certainly sounded far more appealing.

He asked eagerly,

“Which one?”

Daoist Lin answered,

“Yu Daiyan—the Third Hero of Wudang.”

Lin Yang’s expression changed slightly.

“Isn’t that the Yu Daiyan whose limbs were shattered by the Vajra Sect, leaving him permanently crippled?”

He wondered how far the story had progressed.

If Yu Daiyan hadn’t yet been attacked, perhaps he could warn him in advance.

Daoist Lin let out a quiet sigh.

“Ordinarily, someone of your status would never be qualified to become Third Hero Yu’s disciple.

However, he suffered an accident a year ago.

All four of his limbs were broken, leaving him bedridden.

Because of that—and because I happen to share some history with him—I managed to secure you an opportunity to become his daoist attendant.

Although Third Hero Yu can no longer move, his understanding of martial arts remains unmatched.

Teaching you will be no problem at all.

In fact, because he’s confined to bed, he’ll have far more time to instruct you personally.

As for the other six…

Leaving aside Fifth Hero Zhang, who has already disappeared, the remaining five spend very little time on the mountain.

Even if you somehow became one of their disciples, receiving regular guidance would be extremely difficult.”

Lin Yang opened his mouth slightly.

So Yu Daiyan had already suffered his crippling injuries…

What a pity.

He kept those thoughts to himself and merely sighed along with Daoist Lin.

“Since you recommend him so highly, Sir, then I have no objections.”

He agreed without hesitation.

Just as Daoist Lin had said, being personally taught by someone at the level of one of Wudang’s Seven Heroes was an opportunity he had absolutely no reason to refuse.
