Chapter 6: Cultivating Internal Energy — Mission Complete

Lin Yang slowly sat upright and began adjusting his breathing rhythm.

Three short breaths, one long.

Three long breaths, one short.

Two short, two long.

The pattern shifted continuously.

As he adjusted his breathing, he used his inner vision to observe the movements of his internal organs.

More often than not, a slight mistake in his breathing would throw everything off, leaving him short of breath and forcing him to start all over again.

Three days later…

He gradually discovered the underlying pattern.

He could now maintain the changing breathing rhythm without losing his breath, allowing the entire cycle to continue uninterrupted.

As his breathing stabilized…

His lungs also began changing.

Subtle contractions appeared, synchronizing with each inhalation and exhalation.

By the seventh day…

Maintaining the breathing rhythm had become much smoother.

The movement of his lungs gradually synchronized with his breathing.

The lungs then influenced the kidneys.

The kidneys influenced the liver.

The liver influenced the heart.

One after another, four of his five internal organs gradually matched the rhythm established by his lungs.

Those four organs, in turn, affected the spleen and stomach at the center.

By the fifteenth day…

His lungs and breathing had become perfectly synchronized.

The remaining four organs steadily approached the same rhythm.

Even the spleen and stomach gradually joined the cycle.

Together they formed a complete circuit.

The six bowels followed.

Then the circulation of blood throughout his entire body followed as well.

By the thirtieth day…

The movement of all five internal organs and six bowels had finally reached the standard required by the Wudang Foundational Internal Cultivation Manual.

The rhythmic resonance began stimulating his qi and blood.

It was finally able to shake the dantian.

At the same time, Lin Yang carefully guided the circulating qi and blood within his meridians into his lower dantian.

To his surprise…

There was almost no resistance.

Still…

He didn’t dare continue for long.

If he accidentally entered the true cultivation stage without Daoist Lin standing guard…

He had no confidence that everything would end safely.

That same day…

After Daoist Lin finished supervising the morning lessons and Eight Brocades practice, Lin Yang approached him.

“I’m ready.”

Daoist Lin nodded.

“You spent an entire month familiarizing yourself with the cultivation process.”

“You’re much steadier than I expected.”

“I honestly thought you’d come looking for me after only seven days.”

Lin Yang curled his lips.

Of course he had been patient.

He might joke around all day and act carefree…

But that didn’t mean he wasn’t afraid of dying.

He had finally transmigrated into a genuine martial arts world.

He hadn’t even experienced the life of a wandering hero yet.

How could he possibly accept dying before his journey had even begun?

Naturally…

Daoist Lin had no idea what he was thinking.

He continued,

“Tomorrow morning.”

“I’ll ask another Daoist to supervise the other novices.”

“I’ll personally guide your first attempt at cultivating internal energy.”

Lin Yang nodded.

“Alright.”

Early the next morning…

Before dawn had fully broken…

The Daoist priests had already left their quarters and dispersed throughout Wudang Mountain to begin their daily routines.

Daoist Lin led Lin Yang away from the novice quarters halfway up the mountain.

They continued climbing toward a secluded spot near the summit.

After walking for some time…

They arrived at a disorderly pile of large rocks.

Among them stood a relatively flat boulder.

Daoist Lin pointed toward it.

“Here.”

“Face the rising sun.”

“Begin cultivating according to the breathing rhythm you’ve practiced over the past month.”

“I’ll remain beside you.”

“If anything goes wrong…”

“I’ll stop it before it becomes dangerous.”

He stepped back several paces, leaving the space entirely to Lin Yang.

Lin Yang crossed his legs and sat down.

Facing the rising sun…

He slowly closed his eyes.

The morning sunlight bathed his body in a faint golden glow.

Using his inner vision, he examined himself.

The breathing rhythm he had practiced countless times over the past month naturally unfolded.

His five internal organs resembled an engine slowly coming to life.

One after another…

They synchronized with his breathing.

An invisible ripple spread throughout his body.

It connected the six bowels.

It linked the circulation of blood.

Finally…

It resonated with the qi and blood flowing through every part of him.

The invisible vibration reached his lower dantian.

The dantian began trembling gently.

The time had come.

With a thought…

Lin Yang carefully guided the qi and blood vibrating at that special frequency into his lower dantian.

A gentle warmth spread upward.

It was quickly followed by a faint tingling sensation.

Just as the cultivation manual had described.

This was the correct feeling.

Maintaining that state…

Lin Yang emptied his mind completely.

Time quietly passed.

He had no idea how long.

The warmth within his dantian gradually compressed inward.

The more it compressed…

The hotter it became.

It felt as though a tiny fire were slowly being lit deep inside his abdomen.

Then…

At a certain instant…

The burning sensation reached its absolute peak.

A subtle tremor followed.

It was as though he had broken through an invisible barrier.

The heat remained.

But it no longer felt unbearable.

Within the sight granted by his inner vision…

He saw the center of his fist-sized lower dantian.

There…

A single transparent droplet of energy had appeared.

No larger than a sesame seed.

It shimmered with a faint crystalline radiance.

Around it…

The transparent qi and blood that had been circulating throughout his body continued flowing peacefully.

A ripple of excitement rose inside Lin Yang.

“So…”

“This is internal energy.”

The instant that thought surfaced…

His emotions fluctuated.

His breathing rhythm changed ever so slightly.

The unique resonance he had maintained for so long instantly faltered.

The synchronized vibrations of his internal organs collapsed.

Everything gradually returned to its natural rhythm.

Naturally…

The qi and blood moving with those vibrations also withdrew from that special state.

Fortunately…

None of this affected the tiny droplet of internal energy that had already formed.

It floated quietly inside his dantian.

Softly pulsing with a faint glow.

Whenever the surrounding transparent qi and blood came into contact with it…

They naturally began transforming into internal energy.

The process, however…

Was painfully slow.

Even while staring at it continuously with his inner vision…

Lin Yang couldn’t detect any noticeable increase.

So…

He adjusted his breathing once again.

He recreated the unique rhythm.

His internal organs synchronized once more.

The dantian began vibrating again.

Fresh qi and blood continuously condensed into new internal energy.

Only then did its growth become slightly faster.

Watching from the side…

Daoist Lin’s eyes flashed with surprise.

He hadn’t expected Lin Yang’s very first attempt to succeed so smoothly.

The month of preparation had clearly not been wasted.

He couldn’t help recalling the other young novices who had recently completed the qi and blood stage.

Quietly…

He made up his mind.

Once those children reached perfection in their qi and blood…

And fully understood the foundational cultivation manual…

He would also require them to spend as much time as possible familiarizing themselves with the cultivation process before attempting their breakthrough.

That way…

Their chances of success would be much higher.

When he noticed Lin Yang once again changing his breathing and resuming the process of refining qi and blood into internal energy…

Daoist Lin finally spoke.

“You’ve already cultivated your first strand of internal energy.”

“There’s no need to continue using the old breathing method.”

“Its efficiency is far too low now.”

“You should instead use your mind to communicate directly with the internal energy inside your dantian.”

“Let it actively refine your qi and blood.”

“It may feel difficult at first.”

“But as your internal energy grows…”

“Its refinement speed will continue increasing.”

“Before long…”

“It will far surpass the breathing method.”

Daoist Lin’s words immediately reminded Lin Yang of something.

The Wudang Foundational Internal Cultivation Manual had indeed mentioned this method.

He simply hadn’t adjusted his thinking yet.

Moreover…

He had been afraid that changing cultivation techniques midway might produce unforeseen consequences.

Now that Daoist Lin had personally confirmed it…

He naturally chose the more efficient approach.

At that very moment…

The Academic Genius System, which had remained completely silent for an entire month, finally spoke once again.

“Congratulations, Host!

You have completed the study of the Wudang Foundational Internal Cultivation Manual.

You have successfully mastered its circulation method and cultivated your first strand of internal energy.

Mission Complete.

Reward has been distributed.

Updating subsequent missions…

Please continue your efforts, Host.”
