Chapter 28: The Amusement Park Alliance

“What the hell!”

Mo Liang’s brain short-circuited.

Why did Shen Zhiyi know this person? The world couldn’t be that small.

Only now did she realize she knew nothing about the woman who had kidnapped her except her name, Zheng Xianyun. She had no idea what the person beside her was called.

“So it’s you, Qianqian.”

Shen Zhiyi smiled at Lin Qianqian. When her gaze moved to Zheng Xianyun, it paused for a moment before returning to Lin Qianqian.

“And this is?”

She had noticed the strange woman smiling at Mo Liang ever since they arrived, while Mo Liang pressed close to her, as if trying to hide entirely behind her.

“Oh, her name is Zheng…”

Lin Qianqian had just started when Zheng Xianyun cut her off.

“I’m Zheng Xianyun. What’s your name?”

She asked Mo Liang directly, casual, the smile still on her lips, like she was greeting a stranger she had never met.

“Huh?” Mo Liang shrank back and said nothing.

Shen Zhiyi stood up and met Zheng Xianyun’s eyes. Her tone was not friendly. “Her name is Mo Liang. Why do you keep staring at her?”

She had noticed the woman smiling at Mo Liang this whole time. The assessing look in her eyes made her uncomfortable, so she instinctively stepped forward half a step and blocked Mo Liang behind her.

Zheng Xianyun narrowed her eyes slightly.

In her last life, she had never seen anyone like this beside Shen Zhiyi. She remembered that after Su Xiaoyou died, Shen Zhiyi stayed alone until the end.

Back then she had been an ordinary person. She had no way of knowing most of what was really going on. She and Shen Zhiyi had gotten along well enough, and Shen Zhiyi had saved her a few times, but that was all many years later.

It didn’t matter. Since they had met now, there was no harm in getting involved. She pulled her thoughts back, smiled, and apologized in a sincere tone.

“Sorry, she just looked familiar.”

After all, Shen Zhiyi had been her old friend and savior in her last life, so of course she treated her warmly. It was worlds apart from how she treated Lin Qianqian.

“Hm?” Shen Zhiyi looked confused.

Did those two really know each other?

Otherwise, why would Mo Liang act like a mouse facing a cat the moment she saw Zheng Xianyun, shrinking almost entirely behind her?

She looked at Lin Qianqian again and saw the girl’s hand held by Zheng Xianyun, an expression on her face like she wanted to speak but didn’t dare. Shen Zhiyi studied her a little longer.

Zheng Xianyun seemed to notice her gaze and explained naturally, “Qianqian is my girlfriend. You know her too, so why don’t we spend the day together?”

“Yes, yes, Sister Zhiyi.” Lin Qianqian quickly agreed, her smile a little forced.

She hadn’t wanted to speak, but Zheng Xianyun suddenly squeezed her hand hard enough to hurt, leaving her no choice.

Shen Zhiyi looked back at Mo Liang and asked with her eyes whether she wanted to come along.

Mo Liang froze for a moment, then nodded. Shen Zhiyi was a little surprised, but she didn’t say anything.

She had no idea that Mo Liang’s nod had nothing to do with wanting to go.

It was because Zheng Xianyun’s gaze kept drifting to her, light and threatening all at once.

If Mo Liang refused in front of everyone, the woman might bring up what happened yesterday, then show those photos to Shen Zhiyi.

She had to prevent that.

Still, how did Zheng Xianyun know Shen Zhiyi?

Mo Liang glanced at Lin Qianqian, who was trotting along beside Zheng Xianyun, and decided she would ask once they got back.

So the four of them became a group.

Mo Liang stayed close to Shen Zhiyi the whole time, while Zheng Xianyun and Lin Qianqian walked side by side.

The amusement park had plenty of rides. Roller coasters, drop towers, pirate ships…

Lin Qianqian threw herself into the fun, but Mo Liang had no heart for it.

What worried her more was Shen Zhiyi and Zheng Xianyun.

Those two barely played. They stood in the shade outside the rides and talked the entire time.

Every time Mo Liang came off a ride, she saw them chatting like old friends.

The more she saw, the more uneasy she felt.

Later, Zheng Xianyun and Shen Zhiyi went to look at nearby places to eat, leaving Mo Liang and Lin Qianqian on a bench.

Lin Qianqian held a puff of pink cotton candy and bit into it with little “ah wu” sounds, smiling so wide her eyes curved shut. Mo Liang watched from the side, her mouth twitching. This girl really was an idiot.

Then again.

This was perfect. No one else was around. She might as well fish for information.

“Hey, what’s your name? How do you know Shen Zhiyi?” Mo Liang spoke first.

Lin Qianqian paused mid-bite and answered quietly, “Lin Qianqian.”

Then she turned her face away, clearly not wanting to deal with her. In her eyes, this Little Yellow Hair was hardly a good person.

Mo Liang leaned closer, refusing to let it go.

“Lin Qianqian, how do you know Shen Zhiyi?”

“Who is Zheng Xianyun? What’s your relationship with her? Don’t tell me you two are really a couple.”

“You’re being forced, right? Does she have something on you?”

Lin Qianqian’s eyes flickered and her body stiffened slightly.

Seeing that, Mo Liang felt her chance had come. She put on a look of shared suffering.

“You can tell me. I can help you.”

“If we work together, can’t we deal with her?”

The bench went quiet for a while.

After a long moment, Lin Qianqian asked softly, “What’s your name?”

“Mo Liang.”

Mo Liang’s heart lifted. It looked like there was a chance.

But then Lin Qianqian said nothing else and took another small bite of cotton candy. Mo Liang waited quietly beside her. She knew that pushing too hard at a time like this would only scare the other person away.

Still, Lin Qianqian and Zheng Xianyun really weren’t a couple. Maybe someone really did have a hold over her.

If she could pull this person over as an ally, even as cannon fodder, maybe she could turn things around on Zheng Xianyun later.

Meanwhile, Lin Qianqian was thinking too.

She looked Mo Liang over again, and the hope that had just sparked in her wavered. Was this person really reliable?

Before she transmigrated into the book, she had been an orphan. No money, no connections. She had barely gotten by on scholarships and several part-time jobs.

She had finally become the Lin family’s second young miss. She hadn’t even enjoyed her good fortune yet.

She did not want Zheng Xianyun to settle accounts with her.

But she couldn’t beat Zheng Xianyun alone.

The Little Yellow Hair in front of her looked unreliable, but she was close to Shen Zhiyi.

And in the later part of the novel, Shen Zhiyi was Zheng Xianyun’s friend. If Lin Qianqian could build that connection, maybe Zheng Xianyun would let her go.

Except… she had searched through every memory of the original novel in her head, and she still couldn’t remember a character named Mo Liang.

The plot seemed to have gone off track ever since she transmigrated and came to apologize to Zheng Xianyun.

“Cough, cough.”

Mo Liang saw Lin Qianqian’s gaze growing more complicated and quickly cleared her throat. She put on a serious little face and acted like it was time for business.

“How about it?”

“Can you answer the questions I asked earlier now?”

“Mm.” Lin Qianqian nodded lightly, her voice still soft and a little hesitant.

Mo Liang almost lost her composure. This girl really looked like she was about to talk.
