Chapter 102: The School Of Wisdom: The Ambition To Replace Gods

The Original Intention Behind Developing a New School of Magic

Once, when Jiang Cha was apprenticed to Mortel, she had heard her speak of the idea.

Actually, it was very simple.

After visiting many great sages and receiving their guidance, Mortel noticed a problem.

That is—do the current six major schools really constitute a true multiverse of knowledge?

If they do, then why does every great sage hesitate before the threshold of omniscience and omnipotence, with only the First Sage barely surpassing the first barrier?

In studies of witch society, the general consensus was that this is because witches’ civilization is still young; it’s normal for the path to omniscience and omnipotence to be a bit long. Most great sages are practically immortal, so a few hundred years—or even the oldest great sage’s mere 280 years—is still short. In a thousand or ten thousand years, surely more great sages will cross the second or even the third barrier.

But Mortel didn’t think so.

She believed that as long as one found the right method, even the most difficult things could have simpler shortcuts.

Thus, her original intention for developing wisdom-based magic was simply to make it faster and easier for herself to surpass the barriers in the future.

Jiang Cha, however, thought differently.

She believed that wisdom-based magic could become another pillar on the road to full omniscience and omnipotence. By then, the six major barriers would become seven, and further subdivision would make goals clearer and breakthroughs simpler.

Perhaps now it was only the fancy of a young witch, a valuable experiment—but the future… who could say?

Shrugging, under the dim night, Jiang Cha again sank into the intense studies of the magical schools.

With her current knowledge, concepts like the essence of rules were still far beyond her—things that only sages would consider.

And before she ascends to sage…

“Master, when do you plan to ascend to sage?”

Standing in front of her, this casually taken-in disciple looked lively, hands behind her back, lightly on tiptoe, face slightly flushed—a shy little girl trying to confess.

Mortel, who was in the middle of washing up, literally sprayed out her mouthwash.

“What did you just say!?”

“I’m asking when you plan to ascend to sage.”

The girl’s expression remained shy, her two index fingers lightly touching, forming a very cute gesture: “The basic framework of the School of Wisdom is already complete. I need more data to perfect its magic… Master, you’re not telling me you haven’t developed any wisdom-based magic yourself, right?”

“So you just want me to scout the way for you, huh?”

Mortel finally understood, eyes squinting, half-joking.

As a master of magic development, of course she had developed a lot of wisdom-based magic; she hadn’t given it to Jiang Cha before simply because she didn’t want her thinking to influence this genius disciple.

But she never expected that just a few months of guidance would yield returns—far beyond her expectations.

Sage-level, huh…

Mortel’s gaze grew somewhat dazed.

This mature, beautiful, full-bodied white-haired woman was dressed only in a thin white shirt, buttons partly undone, revealing a generous amount of springtime… Her long, voluptuous legs were bare, silver-white curls glimpsed beneath the shirt.

How long had it been?

Although she had always been confident in her own eventual sage ascension, it had indeed been a very, very long time. She had lingered at the Grand Witch level for ages.

“Master, even if you seduce Cha Cha like this, Cha Cha won’t do anything improper, right?”

The black-haired, red-eyed girl lightly tapped her lips, teasing, deliberately using such “outrageous” words to remind the flustered Mortel.

“I’m not interested in your filthy little rabbit heart.”

The indulgent older sister rolled her eyes, instantly shaking off the daze.

She put on her clothes, transforming back into the determined yet lazy First Grand Witch.

“Now, tell me—what new things have you developed in the past two months?”

Mortel sat on a chair, one leg crossed, eyebrows raised, looking at Jiang Cha.

She was sure the reading list she had prepared was insufficient for Jiang Cha to construct the full framework of wisdom-based magic. That magic, “Thought Overlap”, was ingenious, yes, but one spell alone couldn’t support an entire school.

A magic system and a school of magic are not the same.

A magic system is basically a skill tree—you can study it all the way through, and if fully mastered, you become a combat Grand Witch of that school.

A school of magic, however, refers to all theoretical knowledge in that line of magic. The most important part, the basic foundation, is the development process of magic in that school.

It distinguishes combat witches from research witches.

Combat witches can master spells to perfection, combining thousands of tactics to dominate the battlefield.

Research witches—elite ones—can create an entire skill tree from scratch. The key difference lies in whether they can learn the school’s magic development theory.

This is crucial because without it, the school has no mature theoretical foundation.

Thus, the difference between combat and academic witches exists mostly because pre-sage witches don’t have enough study time. By sage level, witches excel at both paths.

“You already know about magic development theory, Master—you’re ahead of me there.”

At this point, Jiang Cha toned down her playful attitude, formally lecturing her master. Surprisingly fun.

In reality, she and Mortel were more like partners, walking the same path, kindred explorers.

“And on my side… the root of everything is my innate magic.”

Mystery Magic: “Information Gathering”.

A low-tier, second-level Mystery Magic, its principle is to create a temporary god of wisdom, offering mana as a sacrifice to steal belief in wisdom from the multiverse, thus strengthening the caster’s intelligence.

By itself, nothing extraordinary.

In the Mystery Magic school—the largest in terms of number of spells—this magic was not remarkable.

Until Jiang Cha appeared.

Her innate magic was not simply “Information Gathering,” but a stronger, more comprehensive, higher-potential version.

And the most important thing…

“I can sense the presence of the god of wisdom through this magic.”

“It hasn’t even built an unconscious god-power server like the Lord of Death—at most, it’s barely established a throne.”

“This is the basic logic I envision for the School of Wisdom—to replace the God of Wisdom myself!”
