Chapter 11: Drifting Between Heat and Distance

“Mm.”

He smiled and turned back, responding lightly.

Gu Qiuhang had already stood up and was walking toward him. Li Yue looked surprised as well.

“Tang Xi? What are you doing here?”

He smiled casually and explained, “You didn’t know? I grew up here.”

Then he pointed at Gu Qiuhang. “This is my young master.”

Gu Qiuhang had already reached him and placed a hand on his shoulder.

“Come downstairs and eat with us?”

His hand was warm.

Ever since childhood, whenever Gu Qiuhang touched him, his head, his shoulder, or his back, it had always made him feel safe.

But today…

It reminded him of that dream.

And that cold, cutting sentence…

You’re disgusting.

As if burned, He Ting instinctively avoided his hand.

A little too quickly.

Before he even realized what he was saying, the lie had already slipped out.

“No… I can’t. My senior invited me to their celebration party. I… just came to grab something and leave.”

He was still smiling, is lips curved.

But the smile in his eyes was faint.

Gu Qiuhang paused slightly, then calmly withdrew the hand that had been left hanging in the air.

He nodded.

After speaking, He Ting turned to Li Yue and smiled again.

“You guys have fun. I’ll get going.”

Li Yue’s smile was bright. “Alright, have fun.”

He Ting responded, didn’t look at Gu Qiuhang again, and turned back to his room.

He changed his clothes and left aimlessly.

As he stepped out, he faintly heard Li Yue say,

“He and Su Bei seem really close. It’s kind of enviable.”

His footsteps paused.

He wanted to hear what Gu Qiuhang would say.

But there was no response.

He walked along the small path for a long time.

Night had fully fallen. A faint fragrance lingered in the air, it was the best season of the year.

Yet he suddenly didn’t know where to go.

Or who to look for.

For so many years, his world had revolved around Gu Qiuhang.

Without him, everything felt empty, pale and hollow.

He took out his phone and called Du An.

Unfortunately, Du An had gone to the countryside to visit his grandparents for the weekend.

So he called Su Bei instead.

Su Bei and the others had just finished dinner and were about to head somewhere else.

He Ting leaned against a lamppost and waited for a few minutes.

Soon, Su Bei’s driver arrived and took him straight to a bar.

The bar was packed.

People stood shoulder to shoulder.

Under the hazy lights, every face openly displayed the desires and wildness buried deep inside.

All kinds of emotions filled the space.

Except for “well-behaved.”

He Ting looked very well-behaved.

The moment he stepped inside, he drew quite a few glances.

He kept his head down, following behind Su Bei.

Some gazes were so blatant that he felt like prey.

A few of Su Bei’s teammates were seated near the bar.

The table was already a mess, clearly they had been drinking for a while.

They were all tall, handsome, and radiated youthful energy.

Sitting together, they were impossible to ignore.

When He Ting walked over, it sparked a round of teasing and cheering…

Mainly because he looked completely out of place among them.

Su Bei shielded him a little, but he still got forced to drink.

A bartender with a bright smile leaned over, asking eagerly,

“Brother Bei, need a hand?”

Su Bei waved him off. “No need.”

He Ting’s vision was starting to blur slightly.

He narrowed his eyes at Su Bei. “Do you come to bars often?”

The boys at the table burst out laughing.

“This is Su Bei’s bar.”

He Ting smiled in realization.

He felt like he had drunk too much.

Everything looked slightly doubled, his mind sluggish.

Before he knew it, someone had pulled him into the dance floor.
