Join the ServerWhen they arrived at Helou Hotel, Du An went straight to the manager.
The manager looked troubled and said it wasn’t convenient to disclose guest information.
Du An thought about contacting his cousin for help, but his cousin was abroad negotiating a project. If he bothered him over something like this, he’d definitely get scolded when he came back.
Du An instinctively shrank his neck. Between catching someone cheating and getting scolded, he found himself more afraid of the latter.
Sighing, he dragged He Ting to sit behind a large decorative plant in the lobby.
From there, they could see most of the lobby and elevator area, while remaining hidden themselves.
He Ting rubbed his temples helplessly. Judging by Du An’s determined expression, this was going to be an all-night stakeout.
He took out his phone, about to message Gu Qiuhang, when suddenly Du An grabbed his thigh and pinched it excitedly. “Damn! Look, look!”
He Ting thought Wang Yuanyuan had really appeared and jolted upright, ready to stop Du An from doing anything rash.
But when he looked, there was no one.
Confused, he glanced at Du An and whispered, “What?”
Du An lowered his voice. “Right corner, right corner…”
He Ting shifted slightly and squinted in that direction. Sure enough, there was a man and a woman.
The man had his back to them. From his build, he looked tall and broad, completely blocking the woman, leaving only a glimpse of red fabric visible.
He Ting felt the silhouette looked familiar but couldn’t place it.
Still, as long as it wasn’t Wang Yuanyuan, it didn’t matter. If it really were her, and Du An lost control, He Ting wasn’t sure he could handle it.
Du An was still pinching his thigh. He slapped his hand away. “You know them?”
“Damn!” Du An looked at him in disbelief. “That’s your house’s Fatty Wang and Gu Donghang’s mom, you seriously can’t tell?”
He Ting’s mouth fell open in surprise. No wonder the figure looked familiar.
The driver surnamed Wang had come with Tong Yuemei when she married into the Gu family. For years, he had been by her and Gu Donghang’s side.
He Ting had seen him occasionally but never really spoken to him, just brief nods in passing.
He looked at Du An. “Why are you so worked up? Maybe they’re just here for business.”
“Tch!” Du An scoffed. “You’re so innocent. I’ve got experience in this kind of thing.”
He leaned in and whispered smugly, “Look at their faces, full of that post-affair glow. Definitely not simple. They just finished something.”
He Ting’s face flushed. He glared at him. “Behave yourself.”
“Hey!” Du An grumbled. “What’s not proper about what I said?”
Fatty Wang and Tong Yuemei were heading out, walking one step apart.
He Ting studied them carefully but couldn’t see any of the “afterglow” Du An described.
He nudged Du An. “Don’t go spreading rumors. There’s no proof.”
Du An grinned. “Just wait and see. I’m never wrong about this.”
The frustration Du An had been holding onto finally found an outlet. Before long, he had mostly calmed down.
He tugged at He Ting. “Let’s go, I’m hungry.”
He Ting laughed in exasperation. “What about catching them cheating?”
Du An shrugged. “Boring.”
He Ting rolled his eyes and poked his forehead. “You’re the one who insisted! Fine, I want a feast. For a whole week!”
Du An humored him. “Alright, alright, my young master. Feast, gold, silver, whatever you want.”
Only then did He Ting feel satisfied. After this whole ordeal, Du An’s issue with Wang Yuanyuan was probably truly over.
He Ting rarely interacted with Tong Yuemei. When he did see her, he usually avoided her, she had never treated him kindly, and he saw no reason to invite trouble.
Gu Qiuhang was the same. He rarely even looked at her, not out of anything else, but simply because he didn’t care.
Although he didn’t fully believe it, He Ting still found himself paying a bit more attention to Tong Yuemei afterward.
Back when she first entered the Gu family, she had her moment of glory in the company. But for some reason, Gu Heng suddenly stripped her of power.
When Gu Donghang grew older, she pushed again to enter the company. Gu Heng eventually relented, but not long after, under Gu Qiuhang’s manipulation, she mishandled several major clients, causing significant losses.
Gu Heng once again removed her from headquarters and assigned her a few subsidiary companies.
These companies were independent but highly profitable. Though Gu Heng never said it outright, everyone knew it was compensation.
Gu Heng stayed abroad most of the time—partly to recover from injuries, partly to expand international business.
Gu Qiuhang rarely interfered with matters on the west side. As long as Tong Yuemei didn’t meddle in Gu Corporation’s core business, he couldn’t be bothered with her.
On the surface, the household looked united, but in reality, it was fragmented.
Everyone operated independently. Only Gu Donghang moved between both sides, preparing for his future role in the company.
After all, he was the second young master of the Gu family, no matter how much he lagged behind Gu Qiuhang, he still believed he deserved a share.
Tong Yuemei lived in the west wing, and Driver Wang lived there too, so He Ting rarely crossed paths with them.
In the few “coincidental encounters” that followed, He Ting didn’t notice anything unusual.
Except once, Tong Yuemei was drunk, and Wang helped her out of the car.
He Ting noticed a faint lipstick mark on Wang’s shirt collar, the same shade as Tong Yuemei’s.
He frowned, unsure whether he should tell Gu Qiuhang.
But soon, he no longer had the energy to dwell on it.
Because Meng Ling had gotten involved with Gu Donghang again.
