“Actually, my combat style isn’t really suited for you.”
At the start of the special training, Shui Jun opened with this advice to Jiang Cha.
“I’m a witch who specializes in both Mystic and Psychic disciplines. The style I developed is based on that—while it’s comprehensive and has no major flaws, it’s still somewhat different from a fully all-round witch like you.”
“So if Mortel were here, I wouldn’t guide you in terms of combat style. Understand?”
The blue-haired Sage’s voice was gentle, like a kindergarten teacher speaking to a young child, showing endless patience for Jiang Cha.
Before Jiang Cha could respond, Shui Jun continued:
“Actually, Jiang Cha, I also don’t think you should simply copy Mortel’s style.”
“Generally speaking, even a witch studying all disciplines will have a natural bias early on. Mortel herself was gifted in dueling, so her style was originally based on Manipulation and Psychic disciplines. The other disciplines were gradually added later, patched in as she progressed.”
“Even though it’s said to be a fusion of all disciplines, there’s still a focus.”
“But you, Jiang Cha, are different.”
Shui Jun smiled softly.
“Do you know why I’m so interested in you? The Grand Saint is one reason, but your talent… in over two hundred years, I’ve never seen anything like it. Not in a terrifying way, but in your comprehensiveness.”
“You see, witches also have natural affinities for certain disciplines. Some are born suited for Manipulation, some naturally prefer Mysticism. These tendencies are influenced by innate traits, but more often by personality.”
Jiang Cha seemed to understand.
She’s an awakened witch, but in terms of innate talent, she’s essentially a blank slate.
Like a blank sheet of paper ready to be painted on, as a witch with strong mental and magical aptitude, her personality doesn’t favor any particular discipline.
In terms of weaknesses—or rather, the lack thereof—she is the most versatile “blank slate” in the witch world. Any school’s traits could be painted onto her.
This meant that Jiang Cha’s potential for development was unmatched.
“Mortel was smart. She genuinely cared about you. When she noticed your natural tendency toward Necromancy, she immediately supplemented your training with Creation magic.”
“That was for your benefit.”
“Balanced and neutral… it sounds simple, but who can really do that?”
“Even better, you have an innate magic that allows you to absorb countless spells, easily correcting minor imbalances.”
“But if your path relies solely on Necromancy and Creation as pillars… ah, I’ve said too much. You see, when I get old, I just like to talk.”
Though Shui Jun said this lightly, her expression showed no apology—only a gentle smile. Her gaze made Jiang Cha feel slightly uneasy, as if…
She were a researcher examining a lab mouse.
“The Psychic and Mystic disciplines are the two most balanced of the six main disciplines. Their magic naturally harmonizes the opposing Life and Death energies in your body. So starting with these two disciplines is the best path for now.”
“After the Camilla Cup, you can seek her guidance on her specialized Manipulation techniques, and you can also learn the Grand Saint’s close-combat methods. You don’t need to master them perfectly; imitating seventy to eighty percent is enough for your use.”
“Once all this is done, Mortel’s Sage promotion will be complete, and you can study from her directly then.”
Shui Jun’s advice opened up a path Jiang Cha had never considered before.
This special training wasn’t just a simple drill. Shui Jun’s expectations for Jiang Cha went beyond creating a competent battle witch.
This training, and the resources invested, aimed to develop Jiang Cha into a professional dueling witch—essentially a career witch who competes in various cups and tournaments.
Professional dueling witches require exceptional combat talent and must perform well to earn a living.
Since these are spectator events, major tournaments are broadcast to the entire witch society. Competitors’ appearances matter too—the more attractive, the more audience engagement, the more income.
This is an unchanging truth in the witch world. Beauty sells, whether in the magical society or human society.
In short, it’s like human sports—basketball or soccer—but in the witch world, the only major sport is magical dueling. Thus, professional dueling witches face even more competition and earn more than ordinary athletes.
Helen herself is one of this year’s rising stars, already achieving solid results in lightweight tournaments.
With Jiang Cha’s talent, this is a promising career path—but still slightly distant for the girl.
For now, she focuses on special training and learning. There are countless spells to study, and Shui Jun’s combat style isn’t easy to learn.
Rationally, Shui Jun’s style is the most sophisticated Jiang Cha has ever encountered—without exception.
Every move she makes seems non-aggressive; each spell cast is for defense—but not simple defense.
“Water is interconnected.”
“It doesn’t just gather into oceans to create massive waves that engulf opponents, or streams that entangle them—it’s interconnected.”
The blue-haired witch cast spells with a light laugh. Specialized mid-level magic flowed from her hands seamlessly, intercepting Jiang Cha’s repeated attacks. Faint blue traces of magic lingered in the air.
“Every planet with life has an interconnected water network.”
Shui Jun manipulated her magic. Hundreds of faint blue magic spheres stirred and resonated with each other, forming a completely new spell in front of Jiang Cha.
“Rivers converge into oceans. Evaporated water falls as rain, seeps underground as hidden currents, or collects in lowlands as ponds and rivers.”
The magic, which seemed ready to dissipate, became visible, forming spiritual strands that bound Jiang Cha tightly.
“Ultimately returning to the ocean.”
The remaining magic converged in Shui Jun’s hands.
“It flows endlessly, forever, yet every part is interconnected and exchanged.”
“Ultimately… to destroy the world.”
The high-level Psychic spell “Torrential Shock”
The magic Shui Jun controlled transformed into a massive psychic attack, as if a colossal wave hundreds of meters high crashed down on Jiang Cha, thoroughly overwhelming her.
This is Shui Jun’s combat style.
It is also the culmination of her research—the study and analysis of magical interconnectivity.
