Chapter 46: A Hero’s Legacy and Guild Exchanges

Elara showed keen interest. “Could you elaborate on that part?”

Sevia’s lips curved slightly. “Are you also an admirer of Aivyn?” she countered.

‘Also?’

“Are you, President?”

A hint of pride flickered in Sevia’s eyes. “Indeed.”

As a Hero, Aivyn was both powerful and beautiful. Even though many had never seen her, admirers and even followers were scattered across the globe.

In this light, Elara and Sevia could be considered kindred spirits.

Only Hilvyn was left bewildered on the side.

‘Why did the atmosphere between these two suddenly become so congenial?’ she wondered.

Sevia’s demeanor softened considerably as she began to recount the tale.

“I was only nineteen at the time, living in an elven village on the edge of the forest. Though we called ourselves elves, most were actually half-elves with diluted bloodlines.”

She chuckled self-deprecatingly before continuing.

“When the corruption event erupted, everyone in the village fled to Wind-Chime City for refuge. The forest was entirely gray back then—the grass, the trees, the ground, even the soil itself, all a deathly gray.”

“I had never witnessed such a sight. I even thought it was the end of the world.”

As Sevia recounted her memories, a faint sense of dread seemed to cling to her.

“We were among the last to enter the city. Just as I reached the city gates, a green-haired elf brushed past me.”

“I remember wondering, ‘Isn’t she going to take shelter?’ Then, a minute or two passed—I hadn’t even finished filling out my entry report when the sky suddenly went dark.”

Her brown eyes, brimming with admiration, seemed to relive the scene as if it were unfolding before her.

“I looked up to see the once bright blue sky transform into the blackness before a storm. Immediately after, the black clouds above the forest were torn open, and a wind spear descended with a beam of sunlight. It plunged into the forest with an explosion louder than thunder, followed by a massive gale. It was so powerful it nearly knocked me off my feet.”

As Sevia spoke, her tone grew increasingly relaxed, and she resumed handling her paperwork.

“Then the sky returned to its brilliant blue. I continued to fill out my entry report, and a few minutes later, someone suddenly arrived to announce that the corruption had been resolved. Everyone around us began to cheer, the villagers cheered, and I cheered along with them.”

“It wasn’t until I became an adventurer later that I slowly learned the full details of what had happened that day.”

Once the story concluded, the admiration in Elara’s eyes was no less intense than Sevia’s. She silently processed every detail.

Hilvyn was utterly awestruck by the magnificent description. The sky changing color, the wind spear summoned from above—it sounded incredibly cool!

“President, what was the name of that magic?”

“I wouldn’t know. I never even spoke to Aivyn. But it was undoubtedly an epic spell.”

Even as a rare S-rank powerhouse, Sevia found it difficult to encounter legends like Aivyn.

“Is this current corruption as severe as the one two hundred years ago?”

Elara had made up her mind; she, too, would go and help deal with the corruption event.

“No, based on the observed dispersal of corrupt magic, it’s far less potent than the one two hundred years ago, though it’s stronger than the last minor incident.”

“Thank you, President,” Elara expressed her gratitude to Sevia for taking the time to tell her and Hilvyn the story. “We won’t disturb you any longer.”

“Go on,” Sevia waved them off.

Back in the main hall, Elara approached the reception window.

“What can I exchange contribution points for?”

Serene checked Elara’s merit points. “Do you have anything in mind? Magic scrolls or magic tools?”

“Let’s start with magic scrolls.”

Elara’s primary goal had always been high-tier magic.

“Alright.”

Serene pushed out the exchange catalog reserved for merit points.

Elara quickly made her selection.

“I’ll take this one.”

It was a high-tier spatial magic: ‘Spatial Displacement’.

The reason for choosing it was simple.

Given her current range of selectable options and her affinity, this was the only spell she could afford.

“Understood. The Spatial Displacement spell costs 70 merit points, and the price is 200 gold. May I ask if…”

“It’s not free?” Elara’s expression froze.

Had she misheard?

“It never has been. Merit points grant you the qualification to purchase, or provide discounts on certain items, but they are not a currency for direct exchange.”

Serene subtly glanced left and right, lowering her voice. “Spatial magic is both rare and expensive.”

The actual truth was that no one used it, and it was still pricey.

Resigned, Elara paid the amount. She then asked Hilvyn if there was any magic she desired.

Meanwhile, Elara went to browse the quest board.

She scanned the board, noticing that a significant portion of the tasks involved dealing with corrupted monsters.

The rewards were slightly higher than those for ordinary quests of the same rank.

However, she decided to put them off for the next two days. She wasn’t a donkey at the village entrance; she needed rest too.

Returning to Hilvyn’s side, she leaned her head in.

“Have you chosen?”

Hilvyn shook her head.

“Nothing I really want. Why aren’t there any outstanding magic spells here?”

The guild only sold magic up to high-tier.

Serene promptly explained, “The guild’s outstanding magic spells require contributions to acquire. For instance, completing a certain number of ordinary quests, or special quests, or through special contributions, among other means.”

“Alright then.” Hilvyn closed the magic grimoire.

She wanted to choose a healing spell that would be suitable for her and Elara’s current combat situations.

‘Indomitable Wind’ was already excellent; as long as they didn’t lose consciousness during battle, they wouldn’t fall.

So, all they needed was a spell that could treat injuries after combat.

However, these high-tier spells didn’t have particularly outstanding effects. Aside from minor characteristics, such as alleviating poison spread or pain relief, their healing capabilities were inferior to high-grade life recovery potions and didn’t offer much improvement over ‘Healing Wind’.

Thus, Hilvyn found none that caught her eye.

“Sister, shall we head back?”

“Alright.”

The two left the guild, but only Elara returned home. Hilvyn mentioned missing Aunt Martha and went to say hello.

Although Elara was somewhat reluctant for her to interact with Martha.

But Hilvyn wanted to go, and besides.

Elara pondered for a moment. It seemed that Martha, aside from her wild stories and her grand clothing creations, shouldn’t negatively influence Hilvyn, who remained as lively and innocent as ever.

Having convinced herself, she felt much more at ease.

She lay down on her comfortable bed, ready to catch up on sleep.

Soon, she drifted into a deep slumber.

Elara slept profoundly, entering a dream. She dreamt she was on a grassland, bathed in sunlight and the scent of grass, surrounded by a herd of leisurely bell-cows. These bell-cows were remarkably friendly, approaching her and licking her face.

When Elara awoke, dusk had already settled.

She glanced to her side; Hilvyn was still sound asleep.

So, she went out to buy some food. Upon her return, she found Hilvyn already awake.

“Perfect! I bought your favorite roasted bread. Come eat.”

“That’s wonderful!”

As they ate, Hilvyn began chatting again.

“That was the soundest sleep I’ve ever had.”

“Me too.” Elara was about to take a bite of her biscuit when something suddenly occurred to her. She casually mentioned, “I also had a dream. I dreamt that bell-cows were licking me. It felt so real, that’s the only part I remember.”

Hilvyn let out an awkward laugh. “That’s quite a strange dream, haha.”
