Chapter 61: The Dazzling Entrance and Unrivaled Display

The gaze of most people converged upon the entrance to the arena.

After a few breaths, a figure emerged from it.

Their black hair was tied into a ponytail. They had long ears, blue eyes, and delicate features.

They wore a simple, dark brown short jacket over a long-sleeved shirt, dark, fitted trousers, and beige ankle boots. In their hand, they held a dark brown wooden wand.

Their entire demeanor exuded efficiency and poise.

A cacophony of discussions erupted from all directions.

“That young lady is truly beautiful.”

“Young lady? She’s clearly a half-elf. She’s probably lived longer than two of you combined.”

“She’s gorgeous. Was her name Bai Zhi, as I heard earlier?”

“Beautiful and powerful. It’s enough to make one sick with envy…”

The intense discussions swirled among the onlookers. Talented individuals were rare, but those who were both beautiful and powerful were rarer still.

“Your senior’s companion is truly stunning,” a female team member remarked from the side, her praise genuine.

Elara’s lips curved upward upon hearing this.

“Good heavens… That Bai Zhi is incredibly beautiful.” The short man beside the armored man stared wide-eyed.

Elara rolled her eyes in response.

Hilvyn walked with light steps, completely unfazed by the multitude of onlookers.

She reached the center of the arena, scanned the crowd, and quickly spotted her target. Tiptoeing, she waved at Elara.

Elara smiled and waved back.

“Who is that adventurer?”

“Is Bai Zhi waving at her?”

“She’s waving back, so they might be teammates?”

“I know her! She’s the A-rank adventurer, Black Rose.”

Another wave of murmurs rippled through the crowd, making Elara’s scalp tingle and her entire body feel uncomfortable.

To be stared at by so many people, all while they spoke words she could clearly hear…

‘Forget it,’ she thought. ‘I’ll just pretend not to hear them.’

Hilvyn stood firm in the center of the arena, her wand raised.

High-tier spell: ‘Wind Lance’.

She didn’t just demonstrate one.

Instead, within two breaths, she conjured six, then ten lances around her.

The surging gales condensed into shimmering green long spears, and she controlled all ten simultaneously.

Knowledgeable adventurers in the vicinity were struck dumb with awe. Conjuring so many at once required remarkable proficiency and affinity.

The chief examiner today was Aedric, the blond, buzz-cut S-rank adventurer. He sat on a section of the viewing platform that jutted out.

When he saw Hilvyn conjure ten Wind Lances, he wasn’t surprised; in fact, he found it perfectly normal.

“Quite impressive, little sister,” he said in a calm voice, audible to the surrounding examiners.

“Is there even a need for further assessment after that single move?”

The deputy examiner, wearing a hat, casually tossed Hilvyn’s submitted magic registration form onto the table.

It listed a long string of spell names, including fusion spells, and even one highlighted in red with effect annotations below it.

“How has she remained at B-rank for so long?”

The process of the Wind Lances coiling only lasted about ten seconds. Hilvyn aimed her wand, controlling the lances to shoot into the air. The ten lances burst forth, creating a powerful gust of wind.

Having just demonstrated her simultaneous limit, Hilvyn twirled her wand and aimed it skyward. One after another, Wind Lances instantly condensed and were immediately cast.

The frequency was astonishing; over ten lances were cast in only about ten seconds.

The crowd gasped once more.

“My goodness, is that still a high-tier spell? It’s as if she’s not using any magic at all.”

“It’s not bad, I think it’s quite simple.”

“Then why aren’t you A-rank?”

“I meant that I can cast low-tier spells as rapidly as she does.”

Elara’s lips pressed together, unable to stop her smile from widening.

‘Be amazed, be amazed,’ she thought. ‘There’s even more impressive stuff coming up.’

Another dark-skinned副examiner also tossed his form aside, leaning back in his chair.

“So, she’s just here to show off,” he stated, cutting straight to the truth.

He and the other hat-wearing examiner, both long-established A-rank adventurers, now felt inferior to this ‘truly’ young woman, who had registered her age as twenty.

Hilvyn showed no sign of fatigue after unleashing her spells. She then released ‘Ice Spike Cage’.

With a lift of her wand, two cages erupted from the ground, extending icy spikes outwards at her will, resembling two massive sea urchins.

“This spell is Ice Spike Cage! You can hide inside it to stab enemies, or trap enemies within it…”

The adventurer explained to himself.

However, most people weren’t focused on the spell itself, but rather on its elemental attribute.

“She’s dual-elemental!”

“Why is there such a huge gap between people?”

The bald, burly man’s team was also speechless, looking at Elara, then back at Hilvyn.

They had initially thought Elara was leading her teammate, but now they re-evaluated their view: both possessed formidable strength.

“Your senior’s partner is actually dual-elemental.”

“She’s alright.”

‘Actually, I’m dual-elemental too,’ Elara thought to herself. While saying it aloud would be satisfying, she needed to maintain a low profile. Such a dazzling display of power was best left to Hilvyn.

The cages dispersed into shattered ice. Next, Hilvyn chose a fusion spell: ‘Ice Tornado’.

The tornado gradually took shape, with fine ice crystals condensing within its core, constantly colliding and howling, creating an immense presence.

“As expected, a fusion spell.”

“The privilege of dual-elemental users—ah!”

“Isn’t she tired?”

Discussions arose at opportune moments, but the tone had slowly shifted from surprise to envy.

Hilvyn, however, was not content. She raised her left hand, unleashing gusts of frosty white mist: ‘Freezing Wind’.

“Controlling two fusion spells simultaneously?!”

“Why is someone still showing off during an assessment!”

“No, what does it mean for such a master to stay at B-rank?”

“Maybe she just wants to rub it in our faces.”

Meanwhile, the audience on the viewing platform to her left collectively shrank their necks.

“Don’t accidentally hurt ordinary people! It’s freezing!”

A loud voice from that section of the platform shouted.

The others in the arena immediately burst into joyous laughter.

Hilvyn dispelled both fusion spells, clasped her hands together, and bowed towards that section.

She continued the assessment.

Finally, she demonstrated her most prized spell, a self-created fusion spell: ‘Ice Firework’.

“How about we just let her pass?” The dark-skinned examiner glanced at his wristwatch—it had already exceeded the average time significantly.

“Let her pass after seeing the Ice Firework. We won’t make her demonstrate the mid-tier spells.”

Aedric spoke, and the other two examiners readily agreed with his opinion.

Back on the field.

Hilvyn channeled her magic, condensing three ice spheres, each about the size of a head.

“What kind of magic is this now?”

“I don’t know.”

She tossed them high into the air and pointed her wand at one of the ice spheres.

Bang!

The targeted ice sphere instantly exploded, emitting a tremendous sound wave in the air. The ice sphere shattered into countless tiny, pristine white ice crystals, spreading out mid-air. Sunlight caught them, making them sparkle like a sky full of falling stars.

Immediately, her wand shifted its target. The second and third ice spheres consecutively exploded.

However, the other two ice spheres burst into fine ice needles and thicker ice spikes, respectively.

She could clearly control the explosions at will, yet she deliberately pointed at each one, adding to the performance.

Elara understood the principle behind this spell, and thus comprehended Hilvyn’s intention.

The viewing platform erupted in another uproar.
