“…Very well, you may go.”
“Yes.”
Song Seol frowned slightly, but Moon Hae-min had already turned away and did not see it. He left the study with a light heart.
‘When ships carrying trade goods set sail, several escort vessels will be deployed.’
Repeating Song Seol’s words in his mind, Hae-min felt a surge of joy. He had a good feeling, this time, it seemed like no accident would occur.
And if that feeling proved true, it meant the future was changing because of him.
If he could alter what would happen at Yesong Port, then perhaps he could also change what awaited in the coming winter. Confidence grew steadily within him that this time, he would be able to escape Song Seol safely.

6. Mistake
Moon Hae-min headed toward the market with a spring in his step.
On the day he received the pouch of coins from Song Seol, he had immediately rushed to a fabric shop to have a quilted coat made. Today was the day to pick it up.
“Welcome.”
As he entered, the elderly shopkeeper greeted him warmly and brought out the finished coat, helping him put it on.
“It fits well, very well.”
“Yes, I like it very much.”
The coat fit him perfectly and felt as warm as being wrapped in a blanket. Hae-min tied the ribbons with satisfaction.
It wasn’t just about getting winter clothing. It felt as though he had recovered something he had once lost, his chest warmed with a quiet sense of fulfillment.
“I’ll wear it well. By the way, ma’am, do you happen to know a good apothecary nearby?”
“An apothecary… If you walk straight this way and turn the corner, there are about five or six clustered together. Any of them should be fine.”
“I see. Thank you for telling me.”
After politely thanking her, Hae-min left the shop.
The coat wasn’t his only reason for coming to the market today. He had more important business, he was nearly out of the suppressant pills Song Seol had given him.
He could ask Song Seol again, but he preferred not to rely on him if possible. The pills weren’t particularly hard to obtain, so he intended to buy them himself.
‘I should stock up while I’m here.’
They were essential to him now.
Following the shopkeeper’s directions, he soon found a cluster of apothecaries. One, with various herbs hanging from the eaves, looked especially trustworthy, so he stepped inside.
“Hello.”
“Yes, what brings you here?”
The apothecary, a young woman about his age with neatly styled hair, greeted him while working on some herbs.
‘She’s not the same gender…’
Hae-min hesitated. It was already awkward to ask for suppressant pills, and even more so with a woman. Though she likely thought nothing of it, he found it difficult to speak due to his conservative upbringing.
“Customer?”
“Yes, um…”
His words wouldn’t come out properly. He fidgeted with his hands when suddenly the door burst open.
“Sister!”
“We’re here!”
Two women entered, greeting the apothecary enthusiastically. They seemed familiar with her and began chatting cheerfully.
“That medicine worked so well! I haven’t seen my husband like that since our wedding night!”
“Oh my, what are you saying? He was always good, wasn’t he?”
“No, not really! Otherwise, why would I have asked you for that?”
The three women chatted openly, even discussing intimate marital matters without hesitation. Hae-min grew increasingly embarrassed.
“Ah, customer! What did you come for again?”
Just as he was about to slip out quietly, the apothecary called him back. The other two women also turned to look at him.
Being the center of attention like this for the first time, Hae-min was flustered. His face turned bright red.
“I-I came to buy… medicine…”
“Pardon? I couldn’t hear you.”
“I-It’s difficult… sleeping…”
He nearly wanted to cry as he forced the words out. Why was it so hard to simply say, “Please give me suppressant pills”? Instead, he ended up blurting out unnecessary details.
“Oh, if that’s the case, you should’ve said so sooner.”
Though she likely hadn’t heard him clearly, the apothecary seemed to understand and smiled knowingly. The two women beside her exchanged mischievous glances, which Hae-min failed to notice.
“Are you an omega?”
“Yes.”
“I see. I have just the right medicine for someone like you.”
As she searched through the drawers, Hae-min relaxed slightly. Despite the awkwardness, it seemed he would get the pills.
“Would you like a strong one? If it’s your first time, something milder might be better.”
“I’d prefer something strong. I’d like to buy plenty.”
“Plenty? Well… I understand the urgency, but it’s better to start with a small amount. You need to see if it suits your body.”
That made sense. Even the physician had said something similar before.
“Then I’ll do that.”
“Alright, just a moment.”
She wrapped a few pills in paper and handed them over. It was less than he expected, but he didn’t argue, he was too tired from the ordeal and just wanted to go home.
“Would you like instructions on how to take it?”
“No, I already know.”
“Oh.”
She seemed slightly impressed, though he didn’t understand why.
“I’ll be going now.”
“Come again if it works well.”
Hae-min bowed politely and hurried out.
“How pathetic…”
He scolded himself. He had behaved like a complete fool.
Still, it wasn’t entirely his fault. He had little experience speaking with women, let alone about such matters.
“At least I won’t have to worry about the pills for a while.”
He muttered as he touched them inside his robe, feeling reassured.

By late afternoon, it was time.
As promised, Hae-min left the estate with Song Seol, riding the horse provided to him.
“Phew…”
Handling a horse was still difficult. As he focused ahead, gripping the reins tightly, Song Seol rode up beside him.
“That’s a new outfit.”
“Ah, this coat?”
“Yes.”
“I had it made today.”
Hae-min added more than usual, buoyed by his good mood. But Song Seol’s next words dampened it.
“It doesn’t suit you.”
“…What?”
“Black doesn’t suit you.”
“…”
He recalled how Song Seol had once given him a white coat. Perhaps it wasn’t meaningless after all.
“But black is best for outerwear. White gets dirty too easily.”
“Why should that concern you?”
“Well…”
Hae-min paused. Song Seol wasn’t wrong, someone of his position didn’t need to worry about such things.
“So do you,” he countered. “You wear black often.”
“We are different.”
“…I don’t see how.”
Song Seol ignored him.
“And that fabric lacks any refinement.”
“It’s just a coat, does it need refinement? As long as it’s warm, that’s enough.”
Song Seol didn’t reply, but his dissatisfaction was clear.
Hae-min decided to change the subject.
“I heard that in private, you treat Yoon Seung-hyeok like a friend.”
“Did I say that?”
“…He told me so.”
Hae-min froze.
He realized too late, he must have heard that from Song Seol in the past, not the present.
Another mistake.
