Chapter 6: The Unexpected Defense

In her previous life, Gu Qianqian was an unremarkable and unambitious person. Her biggest wish was to live a carefree life, well-fed and safe until death.

But now, all that had changed.

This world was infested with monsters. Humanity struggled to survive in the end times, and danger lurked everywhere.

She had been reborn as a random roadside villain, one who could be kicked to death by the female lead at any moment on a whim.

She had never been the kind to show off. Even when Yu Ni and Quan Anrong had bullied her, she wouldn’t have dreamed of pouring hot soup over their heads.

But just now, her mind had gone blank, and she’d been inspired by some news story from her previous life…

She regretted it the moment she did it.

‘Will those two be disfigured?’

‘Will they come after me for compensation?’

‘Will they get someone to hurt me?’

‘If I don’t die at Lin Feiyu’s hands but instead get revenge from those two tarts, that would be miserable.’

Gu Qianqian didn’t know why. She just wanted to vent.

And it had escalated to this.

“Security! Security!!”

“Murder! Someone’s killing someone!!”

Some sheltered female classmate was shrieking in the background, and in that instant, Gu Qianqian felt like she was about to become a murderer.

But when she saw the shock and confusion in the female lead Lin Feiyu’s eyes, and then looked at the two still rolling on the ground, she suddenly thought, maybe being impulsive wasn’t so bad?

She even threw up a peace sign.

***

Half an hour later, in the faculty office of Wind City Academy.

“Heh, Gu Qianqian, you really know how to cause me trouble.”

The sharp-tongued, spiteful homeroom teacher Wang Feng stared coldly at Gu Qianqian, who wore a look of dejection. “You don’t study at all on usual days. I don’t expect you to pull yourself together, but did you mistake my indifference for leniency?”

Wang Feng slammed the table, making Gu Qianqian flinch.

Back in her previous life, she’d been terrified of scoldings from teachers. To her surprise, she was still scared of teachers even in this other world. Gu Qianqian felt she was regressing.

After all, she was a graduate; she shouldn’t be afraid of homeroom teachers anymore.

Apparently, she’d been overthinking.

“I’m talking to you, Gu Qianqian! Say something!”

Wang Feng’s voice was so loud it could be heard clearly down the corridor.

Fortunately, it was lunchtime, so no one was around.

Although Gu Qianqian was afraid of her teacher, she’d learned from experience. This was not the time to speak.

Because anything she said would be talking back.

And talking back would bring an even stormier backlash.

“It wasn’t my fault. They kicked me, insulted me nonstop, and treated me like a servant. I showed mercy by not dumping just-boiled water on their heads.”

Standing nearby, Lin Feiyu glanced at Gu Qianqian with the look one would give a warrior. In her previous life, she wouldn’t have dared speak to Wang Feng like that.

Though that damn teacher was also on her list of future revenge targets, right now she had no power to deal with Wang Feng, so she had to keep playing the innocent.

But how did Gu Qianqian have the guts?!

She remembered Qianqian hadn’t been this bold last life. Even when bullied, she wouldn’t have challenged Wang Feng openly.

What was going on?

Gu Qianqian’s increasingly baffling behavior made Lin Feiyu narrow her eyes, more doubts piling up.

But Wang Feng wasn’t a reincarnator or a transmigrator, so she couldn’t understand the change in Gu Qianqian’s personality.

Seeing that Qianqian actually dared to talk back, showed no remorse, and even seemed proud, Wang Feng’s eyes widened and a formidable aura erupted.

She might just look like a woman, but in this apocalyptic world, supernatural powers existed. To teach at Wind City Academy, even the worst teacher had to have some skill.

Even Wang Feng.

“GU! QIAN! QIAN!”

A thundering roar echoed through the entire building.

Gu Qianqian was pushed back by an invisible force and slammed into the wall. The impact wasn’t hard, but she let out a muffled grunt.

Fear crept into her heart.

Though she inherited the original Gu Qianqian’s memories and knew this world had supernatural powers to fight the monsters outside, it wasn’t the ridiculous heaven-defying stuff from novels, nor was it an ordinary world.

Wang Feng’s roar was like a firecracker, grating on the ears.

“You dare talk back?! The f*ck? Who gave you the nerve?”

“You’re a worse student, trash, the excrement of Wind City Academy. You belong in a sewer! Believe me, I could have you expelled right now!”

Gu Qianqian looked up, her eyes brightening. Could there be such a good thing?

“Bullying your classmates is one thing, but being stubbornly unrepentant?”

“What, you dislike that I didn’t approve your leave, so you’re trying to rebel?”

“Let me tell you, dream on! This off-campus practice, you’re not just going, you’re doing the logistics. After we return, three days of confinement, a ten-thousand-word self-criticism, one month of cleaning the bathroom, and I’ll have your parents come in. I’ll ruin you, you little shit.”

“A student like you, besides picking on classmates, what else can you do? In a month, I’ll submit your expulsion to the school!”

Listening to Wang Feng, one thought crossed Gu Qianqian’s mind: ‘I might not be the real Gu Qianqian, but you’re f*cking ruthless.’

Punishing her and then expelling her was like killing someone and stabbing their heart.

But… why was she a little excited?

Not for the punishment, of course, but for the expulsion.

Honestly, though, this was already a harsh punishment.

Lin Feiyu frowned. When Yu Ni and Quan Anrong were taken to the infirmary, she’d checked. Their burns were minor. A bit of herbs and medicine, and they wouldn’t even blister.

They’d screamed loudly, but it was nothing serious.

What mattered was that those two were no angels. If anything, they deserved worse than Gu Qianqian.

And Gu Qianqian’s unusual behavior today made Lin Feiyu wary.

Before killing her, she had to understand what was behind this change.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t sleep easy.

If she couldn’t figure it out during the off-campus practice, she’d need to keep Gu Qianqian within arm’s reach until she uncovered her secret.

Because she herself had been reborn. If Qianqian’s change was also due to reincarnation, she had to know who else had come back.

Considering the worst case, if she couldn’t learn the secret soon, and Qianqian got expelled, she herself couldn’t leave the school yet. That would mean extra effort to watch over that little runt.

She didn’t have that much energy to keep an eye on her constantly, unless she broke her limbs to lock her up.

But Lin Feiyu lacked the strength for that, and she didn’t want to draw attention.

So…

“Teacher Wang, Gu Qianqian was actually framed.”

Lin Feiyu, silent until now, suddenly spoke, drawing everyone’s attention.

Wang Feng didn’t find it odd, but Gu Qianqian flinched violently.

She quickly asked in her mind:

‘Damn system, did I mishear?’

‘You heard right, damn host.’

‘Is Lin Feiyu possessed? She’s been reborn, so why would she speak up for me like in her past life? Now she should be eager to see me suffer and get punished, right?’

‘Maybe she’s keeping up her pure act, not wanting anyone to notice.’

‘You believe that?’

‘No.’

Reality snapped back. Wang Feng looked at Lin Feiyu, who appeared demure and innocent. The girl’s beautiful face and feigned purity were quite convincing.

Wang Feng was also one of Lin Feiyu’s revenge targets, but a rebirth had taught Lin Feiyu one thing: patience. And intermediate acting skills!

Gu Qianqian knew the act, but Wang Feng didn’t.

Wang Feng just changed her expression and spoke to Lin Feiyu with a mix of surprise and bewilderment: “Feiyu, dear, what did you say?”

Lin Feiyu calmly repeated, “I said, Gu Qianqian was falsely accused. She did that because they were bullying me, and she was sticking up for me.”

Those words stunned both of them.
