Chapter 7: Like Me?

Gu Qianqian blinked her big, adorable eyes. Huh? Stand up for you? Me? Had that actually been my intention?

Okay, sure, if you looked at it from the outside, yes, she was playing the part of winning over the heroine. Gu Qianqian did apologize before, said she shouldn’t pick on her and stuff.

But…

This was obviously an act.

But why? Lin Feiyu wanted me dead more than anyone.

She had no idea Lin Feiyu had already decided to hold off on killing her until she figured out what was behind her sudden change. If Lin Feiyu couldn’t figure it out, she might just break Gu Qianqian’s arms and legs, chain her in a basement, and slowly torment and study her.

Back in the real world, Wang Feng’s eyes were bugging out in disbelief. “Feiyu, I know you’re a good kid. Kind. But are you seriously defending this trash?”

Hey, that’s enough out of you. If you weren’t my homeroom teacher, and the only reason I can’t beat you is because I really can’t beat you, I’d have kicked you stupid ages ago.

Lin Feiyu shook her head and doubled down. “It’s true, Teacher Wang. In the cafeteria just now…”

She then recounted exactly what Yu Ni and Quan Anrong had done, in detail, and emphasized that Gu Qianqian had acted out of disgust for their behavior and to stand up for her.

It was all fact. But if Gu Qianqian had said any of it herself, nobody would believe her. Not Wang Feng. Not even her own deskmate.

Gu Qianqian, standing up for Lin Feiyu? That would be the sun coming up in the west.

Besides, Gu Qianqian trailed after Yu Ni and Quan Anrong like a little sidekick. They said jump, she jumped. She never refused anything. A falling-out between that trio?

No, they’d rather believe Gu Qianqian and Yu Ni had paired up to heap abuse on Lin Feiyu, and the quiet little innocent had finally cracked and doused someone with hot soup, so the school made Gu Qianqian take the fall.

“If you don’t believe me, ask the students who were in the cafeteria. Or check the cameras. I’m not lying to you.”

With Lin Feiyu stating it that firmly, even more convincingly than when she took Gu Qianqian’s side earlier, Wang Feng almost went cross-eyed.

Gu Qianqian sticking up for Lin Feiyu. Had her brain slipped out of her ears?

With a face like she’d just eaten shit, Wang Feng shot Gu Qianqian a slit-eyed look. “Is she telling the truth?”

Of course not! I wanted to slap some sense into those two bitches!

Gu Qianqian was about to say that when she noticed Lin Feiyu’s eyes. Say one wrong word and you’re dead.

She couldn’t be certain that was what the look meant, but that cold, warning glare, plus all the effort Lin Feiyu had put into covering up for her…

Coward that she was, Gu Qianqian nodded. “Yeah. I just can’t stand the way they push her around. Hitting her, cursing her, spending her money. So I stepped in.”

The words burned her own mouth. Gu Qianqian had bullied Lin Feiyu too. So facing Wang Feng’s “don’t I look like I believe you” stare, she felt a bit gutless.

Yet the sincerity in her voice and the righteous indignation on her face gave Lin Feiyu a moment of pause.

‘Two lifetimes of living, and I’ve had people look out for me. Plenty of them. But every one had their own agenda.’

‘Gu Qianqian. What’s your agenda? Beg me to forgive you? Beg me to spare you? No…’

‘Whether Gu Qianqian had reincarnated was still up for debate. If she hadn’t, she had no reason to beg for forgiveness. But if she hadn’t reincarnated, why act this way today? Say these things? Gu Qianqian had looked so real just then, so sincere. She genuinely seemed to want to teach Yu Ni and Quan Anrong a lesson on her behalf?’

At the thought, Lin Feiyu scorned herself for an entire second. ‘Get real, Lin Feiyu. Still clinging to fantasies? These people all deserve to die.’

With Lin Feiyu backing her story, Wang Feng didn’t press further. She waved them off. Whether punishment would follow, she didn’t say. Gu Qianqian figured the witch teacher wouldn’t let her off so easily.

…

After they came out of Wang Feng’s office, walking the corridor beside the main character was more stressful than facing Wang Feng. Gu Qianqian only dared to trail behind. If she walked in front, she’d probably die of fright from those freezing eyes boring into her back.

Until they left the teaching building, Lin Feiyu turned her head to look at her. Silent. The stare made Gu Qianqian’s skin crawl.

Did I reveal something? The main character rebirth basically equals destined protagonist; give her time and nothing can stop her revenge. My arms and legs might as well be twigs. She could snap them with one hand. Fear was unavoidable.

While Gu Qianqian was sweating bullets, Lin Feiyu scrutinized her interestedly.

Totally different from the Gu Qianqian of yesterday. Today’s Gu Qianqian was weak. Too weak. She was always petite and cute-looking, but her previous haughty, foul-mouthed self made few people find her cute.

Now? The girl trembled like a hamster in a cat’s death grip, as if she’d be devoured the next second. As if she already knew. Knew what Lin Feiyu planned for her, the torment, the murder. And couldn’t fight it.

Just as she thought. This girl’s hiding something. Gu Qianqian. You’re done.

A wicked little smile curved at the corner of Lin Feiyu’s mouth. With no one as witness, she finally let out that corrupted smile.

“Gu Qianqian. You really are different today.”

Hearing that again, Gu Qianqian almost knelt. I got no acting skills, only a scrap system; this transmigration didn’t upgrade my brain or powers. So this is how I die?

“Th… there is? Nah… h-haha… really? No… ha…” Her laugh was as transparent as glass, a poor cover.

This time Lin Feiyu didn’t toy. She came right out with it. “Are you Gu Qianqian?”

Gu Qianqian felt like she’d been struck by lightning. But even she, not bright as she was, knew she couldn’t show a single flaw now. Otherwise the heroine really would off her tonight!

“Huh? Not me? Who else would I be?”

The words trembled out, and she got a piercing examination in return.

Maybe Lin Feiyu didn’t dig too deep. She just changed the topic. “You said you were standing up for me in that office. Was that true?”

That was you forcing me to say it! But fine… I did have those thoughts. Yu Ni and Quan Anrong are pieces of crap, not human.

“Of… of course. Yes.”

Lin Feiyu suddenly reached out, clamping Gu Qianqian’s chin and forcing her head up.

The cute oval face was topped by a pair of frightened, watery eyes that looked ready to cry. Yet the light in those eyes flickered, and Lin Feiyu grew irritated.

Gu Qianqian thought Lin Feiyu was going to snap her neck right there, terror flooding her. Then she heard Lin Feiyu’s cold voice. “Look at me. Say it again. True or false?”

Big sister! You’re giving me the “say false and I’ll kill you” look. Do I have a choice?

Shivering, Gu Qianqian gave a tiny nod. “It’s true. Really true!”

Damn, she smells good.

Staring back at the heroine from this close, Gu Qianqian found it hard to breathe. Her heart hammered. Half from fear. Half from…

How is the heroine so unfairly hot? Beautiful and fragrant. Can you target my type any harder? Damn it!

“Really?” Lin Feiyu clearly wasn’t buying it. “Then what happened between us before… it was a misunderstanding?”

“A misunderstanding. Totally!” At this point Gu Qianqian couldn’t exactly say “I just wanted to bully you for fun.”

“I… I was actually…”

“Were what?”

“I… I like you! I did those things to get your attention…”

Even Gu Qianqian didn’t know why her loose lips were saying all this, spouting nonsense in her panic. As regret crashed down, Lin Feiyu’s grip on her chin tightened. Murder flickered in her eyes.

“Like me? Hah. Gu Qianqian, are you mocking me?!”
