The Great Sage had left, and Jiang Cha’s campus life finally returned to normal.
“Long time no see~ Senior Kyoko, did you cause another accident?”
Early in the morning at the Alchemy Club, Jiang Cha almost laughed out loud when she saw that familiar socially anxious witch standing behind the bar. She waddled over and waved her little paws.
Kyoko jumped back half a step, tensing her body in surprise.
“Senior, that half-step back of yours has caused immense damage to my delicate heart.”
The girl pouted, looking adorably cross.
“It’s… not…”
Kyoko mumbled nervously, unable to overcome her fear to form a complete sentence. Tearful, she looked at Shilan for help.
“Alright, Jiang Cha, stop teasing her.”
Shilan sighed, unable to bear it, and stepped forward to help Kyoko out.
For a socially anxious witch, someone like Jiang Cha was probably the hardest type to handle. She approached warmly and acted friendly, but it was clear that she did this with everyone — you weren’t special.
You admired her, felt a flutter because of her beauty, imagined yourself speaking with her, and prepared in secret — but when reality struck, you couldn’t even form a proper sentence.
“Eh— but Senior Kyoko really is fun, though.”
“Sometimes your personality is subtly… cruel.”
Shilan muttered under her breath.
She then turned to the white-haired, elegant lady quietly sipping tea in the lounge.
“Senior Mephisto, could you maybe manage her?”
“Manage her? How?”
Mephisto tilted her face curiously, setting down her teacup.
No need to actively intervene — as soon as Jiang Cha saw her, her eyes lit up, red irises sparkling with patterns like a star chart, and she waddled right over.
Yes, all she needed to do was distract Jiang Cha for a moment.
“Long time no see, Junior Jiang Cha. You’ve improved a lot. I’m glad. You haven’t been spoiled by your mom.”
“Eh-heh~ it’s not that great.”
“Nope, this little brat definitely won’t be spoiled. She’s already a handful by nature.”
Watching them interact so harmoniously, Shilan muttered quietly to herself.
Being the only sane one is exhausting, so she chose to pretend she didn’t know anything.
After all, Jiang Cha wasn’t really doing anything harmful — just a mischievous little thing, harmless enough for amusement.
“Ah! Senior Shilan, what did you want me to do today?”
After a few words with Mephisto, seeing the conversation about to run out of steam, Jiang Cha skillfully shifted attention back to Shilan.
The timing was perfect — not awkward, and it didn’t feel like anyone was being ignored.
“Can’t I call you by name?”
“If Senior Shilan wants to go on a date with me, I wouldn’t mind… but I already have a boss, so she might mind a little.”
“Boss?”
Shilan was momentarily stunned. After just one holiday, when did this little Jiang Cha gain a boss?
Coming from the Huaxia region, she knew a little about unspoken rules. A young, beautiful demon witch suddenly having a boss? Not exactly good news.
“At Annie’s Maid Café. I’m working there now.”
“Ah, I see.”
For some reason, Shilan felt slightly disappointed at such an ordinary answer — the fire of curiosity instantly fizzled out, and she coughed lightly to change the topic.
“Actually, I called you here because of [ ]… well, first, let’s talk profits.”
Once she switched into business mode, Shilan became serious. She seemed to be the successor in commercial affairs for the Alchemy Club, quite capable.
“We did a trial sale at ten pilot locations on the academy island. Results were very good. The next goal is to develop more styles and cooperate with more shops to expand sales — so your profit last month wasn’t as high as you might’ve thought.”
“Oh~”
Jiang Cha nodded, understanding but not overly concerned. She seemed more interested in the cat Mephisto had brought.
It was a normal Ragdoll cat — elegant and noble, but not the kind that would wriggle into her lap and nearly tip over her tea while causing chaos.
“Alright, alright… everyone’s so careless. I shouldn’t have agreed to take on this task.”
Shilan sighed and reluctantly handed over a bank card.
“There’s 50,000 Witch Gold in it. Your job for the next two months is to design more eyeglass styles — you know, the current focused eyewear looks aren’t high-end enough. That’s how you make real money in witch society.”
Eyewear, if designed well, could command sky-high prices. Its value was more as an accessory or luxury item than practical use, especially among witches.
Jiang Cha’s first design was just a silly, plain black frame — cheap-looking and low-selling. Many young witches would rather buy a prettier ordinary pair than wear that plain black frame.
That’s why her first month’s share was only 50,000.
“Got it~ Eh-heh, thanks, Senior!”
Of course, Jiang Cha understood Shilan’s reasoning for explaining the business: to prevent potential profit disputes and to groom her as the next Alchemy Club business lead.
Jiang Cha had the talent, and among new students, she was the most suitable.
However, the girl clearly didn’t want to take on this troublesome task — even though the salary was quite high. Yes, in academy clubs, jobs came with pay, usually given as material shares.
Shilan got 30,000 in material credits monthly — a high-paying job for a young witch. Jiang Cha’s other work — accompanying people on dates for 5,000 a day — didn’t count as formal employment. That kind of job was a pure youth job, rewarding freshness and youth.
Young witches’ salaries were about 20% lower than older witches, due to both skill and experience, but mostly networking. Older witches knew more people, naturally benefiting their work.
Young witches’ social circles were limited, so their work-related benefits were fewer.
Shilan wasn’t really part of that limitation — she would almost certainly become a Great Witch. Her current job was merely gaining experience and building connections, like a rich intern doing menial tasks for paperwork, not money.
