Alice blinked her beautiful eyes, staring at Chloe in surprise.
“You clearly have no combat ability at all.”
“Hey, could you let me look cool for once?” Chloe puffed out her cheeks, speaking irritably.
“If you want to show off, this isn’t the time or place!”
The enemies had surrounded them, but the looks they gave Chloe and the others weren’t hostile—they were contemptuous.
“Four beautiful girls? Did they walk right into our trap?”
“Hehe, why not have a little fun with them before handing them over to Bishop Andrew?”
Alice casually grabbed one guard by the hair, then kicked him hard in the ***, sending him flying several meters.
The guards didn’t retreat; instead, they assumed offensive stances. They had numbers, weapons, and in their eyes, Chloe and the others were just ordinary weak women.
“These young ladies have quite the temper. They need a proper taming.”
A tall, imposing guard bared his teeth and charged at Alice with his sword.
Chloe glanced worriedly at Alice, only to see a smile curl at the corner of her mouth.
The moment the sword tip was about to touch Alice’s body, she sidestepped left, grabbed the guard’s wrist, and twisted it behind his back. The large man cried out in pain, his sword clattering to the ground.
“Not done yet!”
Alice wrapped her other arm around the guard’s waist, and in full view of everyone, spun him ninety degrees. He crashed heavily to the ground, knocked out cold.
Despite the huge size difference, she completed the maneuver as lightly as a swallow.
Chloe’s jaw nearly dropped. She hadn’t expected the Elder’s close-quarters combat skills to be so formidable.
“No way… is this guy even human?”
Fear gripped the guards. They took several steps back.
“See? I don’t need your protection.”
Alice clapped her hands and turned her gaze to the other guards.
“Who’s next?”
Chloe let out a sigh of relief, but a cry from behind unsettled her again.
“Don’t touch me!”
Chloe turned around. Una and Anna had both been subdued. Una was thrashing in a guard’s arms, biting viciously at his forearm.
Unfortunately, his arm was covered by an iron vambrace, so Una’s bite was completely ineffective.
“Surrender now. No funny business, or else…”
The guard grinned maliciously, pressing his longsword against their throats.
“Not good!”
Alice’s face paled. She wanted to snap her fingers, but she could only hypnotize one person, and the other guards might panic and harm the hostages.
Chloe lifted her head. The sky was gray and sunless; the thick clouds blocked all light, and the flowers and grass on the ground drooped listlessly. Yet she could stand tall.
Vampires feared sunlight. Only in darkness could she fully use her vampire powers.
Chloe took a deep breath, feeling power surge within her. She rapidly rehearsed the secret technique in her mind.
“Still not surrendering? Then your friends are done for!”
The dagger pressed closer to their necks. Just then, Chloe raised her hand, pointed at the guard, and parted her crimson lips.
“ Night Shadow Cloak. ”
As the words fell, Chloe’s body dissolved into a transparent red mist. Thousands of bats danced wildly in the air, their shrill cries piercing the sky.
This was a super-enhanced version of the bat transformation spell, increasing the number of summoned bats. But it wasn’t very useful—only good for intimidation. The name “Night Shadow Cloak” was just one of Chloe’s chuunibyou creations.
Still, it was more than enough to deal with these inexperienced guards.
“What is this?!”
The bats dove at an imperceptible speed onto the guard restraining Una. He immediately let go and tried frantically to swat them away.
The swarm swept over each guard like locusts, leaving nothing untouched. They squeezed into the gaps between armor and skin, savagely biting the clueless fools.
“Aaaaaah!”
Screams echoed through the manor. The guards abandoned their pursuit and fled in the opposite direction.
“Wow, Lady Chloe can use magic too?”
Una fell to the ground, then pushed herself up, gazing at the sky full of bats with admiration.
“Are you okay?”
Anna reached out a hand to Una. Una stood up reluctantly, but her eyes were evasive. She shook off Anna’s hand.
“Hmph, I’m not going to thank you for that.”
“Hey, that’s pretty rude!”
“And who was it that kept yelling about saving Anna just now?”
Alice walked over to them, forcing a smile onto her face.
Una’s face flushed bright red. She stammered, “That’s because… Lady Chloe… wanted to save this one.”
“Alright, alright. Let’s hurry back and regroup with Anjie and the others before they call for reinforcements.”
Alice stretched lazily, looked up at the bats in the sky, and called out loudly, “Chloe, that’s enough, right?”
The swarm dispersed, leaving only one small bat landing on Alice’s shoulder. But Chloe didn’t transform back.
Alice’s face darkened. She said, “Hey… don’t tell me… you can’t change back?”
The bat flapped its wings in confirmation.
Chloe wanted to cry. Normally, she could revert to human form about a minute after transforming into a bat, but it had been nearly five minutes now, and she still couldn’t change back.
Una poked the bat’s wing with her finger, tickling Chloe. She grinned and said, “Lady Chloe is so cute.”
Anna also leaned in, bending down to scrutinize the bat. “Hmm, but I’ve never heard of a spell that turns someone into a bat.”
Her identity as a vampire was about to be exposed! Chloe panicked inside.
If the fact that she was a vampire got spread around, she wouldn’t just lose her chance to be a lord—vampire hunters might show up at Sirena Castle to kill her.
“There are plenty of things you haven’t seen. Some spells can even change a person’s gender.”
Alice quickly covered for Chloe, skillfully changing the subject.
“Wow? Really? If there is one, I’d kind of like to become a guy,” Anna said.
Become a guy? Why? Guys have to work hard to support a family—it’s exhausting. Sure, beautiful girls also have to earn money, but at least they’re pleasant to look at in the mirror.
Oh no, Chloe’s thoughts were becoming more and more feminine. That wouldn’t do. She was Xia Ni, a real man, and forever her sister’s big brother.
“Why do you want to become a guy? Even though guys do have it easier in the world,” Una said.
“I want to openly flirt with girls!”
Anna seemed to have blurted out something major.
Una stepped back a few paces, distancing herself from Anna.
“Let me tell you a secret: all the members of the Elder Council are beautiful girls,” Alice said, raising a finger.
“I must join the Elder Council!”
Anna’s eyes lit up, while Una looked at her with disgust.
Hey, are you all forgetting someone?
Chloe flapped her wings, circling helplessly in the sky.
