Join the ServerChloe Raina gazed at Alice Fabian Caligula, her eyes slightly dazed.
Could she trust Alice enough to pour out everything on her mind?
“I want to go to the bathroom, Una, come with me.”
Anna, understanding tacitly, raised her hand and led the reluctant Una away, leaving only the two of them.
Their fingers interlaced tightly, the sensation between them sweet as cream.
What exactly did Alice feel for Chloe?
Chloe felt as if she had returned to her school days, like a lovesick boy hoping the girl she adored would single her out, making her the one and only.
But Chloe’s pitiful romantic experience from her student years was far from enough to understand Alice’s thoughts.
What was Alice thinking?
No—what was Chloe herself thinking?
She snapped back to reality, shoving all the messy fantasies out of her mind.
She and Alice were both women; such things were impossible. The budding feelings were merely residue from Xia Ni’s male persona.
But who was Chloe? Xia Ni? Or someone else entirely?
As time passed, the impression of the male persona gradually faded from her mind.
It had only been a few months, yet her memories, emotions, and everything about her original world had grown faint. In another year, she would likely forget the existence of Xia Ni entirely.
She didn’t want that. In her original world, there were still people she needed to protect.
She wanted to go home, but that mission had been shaken by her sister’s transmigration. Her sister… as Julius Caesar, was she already dead?
Chloe dared not imagine that outcome. She preferred to believe her sister had been sent back to the original world.
But what if her sister really was dead… having died to answer Augustus’s call and cure her illness?
Chloe’s eyes involuntarily moistened, two streams of hot tears tracing lines down her cheeks.
This wasn’t like her. As Xia Ni, he had never cried over such things, because he had to comfort his sister.
In the original world, the weight of life left him no room for tears. But here, she was a silver-haired beauty, a vampire lord, and the chosen of the gods.
With a mature senior colleague like Alice, an energetic girl like Xina—maybe spending the rest of her life in this world wouldn’t be so bad.
Alice’s luscious golden hair shimmered as she turned back, startled to see Chloe crying.
She gently caressed Chloe’s cheek and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Besides, in this world, there was someone who could wipe away her tears.
She had been on the verge of death in her original world. If she could just forget everything about Xia Ni and start a new life with everyone here, how wonderful that would be.
“Alice.”
“Hmm?”
Alice replied in a gentle tone, making Chloe feel that she would accept anything she said at this moment.
Someone called out to Chloe. She looked up through tear-blurred eyes, and behind Alice, she saw a figure that should not have been there.
Julius Caesar—her sister—was smiling at her.
Ever since their parents died in a car accident, Chloe had rarely seen her sister smile. She usually wore a stern face, only offering a genuine smile when she saw Xia Ni’s condition improve.
Choose her sister or Alice?
She already had an answer in her heart: she wanted to go home, go home with her sister. To do that, she had to uncover the truth about Caesar.
Chloe stopped her tears and voiced the question that had been buried in her heart since the wedding.
“Do you know Julius Caesar?”
Upon hearing that name, Alice’s expression turned serious.
“What is it?”
Alice knew Caesar—Chloe had learned that from Alysia’s memories, and they were close friends. So she pressed on, “You know her, don’t you?”
Alice’s face turned ashen. She let go of Chloe’s hand, turned away, and asked flatly, “Why are you asking about this?”
This was the first time Alice showed hostility toward Chloe, making her heart ache. She clenched her teeth and continued, “She’s my sister.”
“I know,” Alice replied in an icy tone.
Now it was Chloe’s turn to be shocked. She listened in disbelief to Alice’s words.
“She always talked about you—Chloe—saying you were terminally ill and needed Augustus’s power to save you.”
So it was true. Chloe’s heart ached faintly.
Her sister had indeed transmigrated into this world. After all, his computer screen had still been on, the message “Please save us” still displayed.
But why had she arrived three hundred years before Chloe? And why had she been assassinated as Caesar by Alysia?
“She… is dead?”
“Mm… assassinated by the Original Order.”
Alice’s eyes darted away, her voice as faint as a mosquito’s buzz.
“She’s a transmigrator, right? What happens when she dies?”
Soul returns to the original body? That would be wonderful.
“Unlike you, she is a reincarnator. Reincarnators cannot be revived after death.”
“Reincarnator? What does that mean?”
“She reincarnated into this world after death. In that case, she only has one life.”
Impossible. Absolutely impossible.
An indescribable fear rose in Chloe’s heart.
Her sister had been alive and well before Xia Ni’s transmigration—she had even made him a birthday cake.
She could still vividly remember the cake’s name—“Chloe.”
Chloe grabbed Alice by the collar, tears streaming from her eyes.
When she had seen Alysia kill Caesar back then, Chloe had felt no real impact, because she believed her sister’s soul would return to her body.
But now, she had to face the fact: her sister was dead.
“Why? Why? You… you were always by Caesar’s side—why weren’t you with her at the end?”
“I’m sorry.”
Alice shook off Chloe’s grip, her eyes filled with guilt. Her eyes were heavy with exhaustion, clearly unwilling to discuss anything related to Caesar.
“Then why was I summoned only after three hundred years?”
Her sister’s reincarnation time couldn’t have been that different from hers. Damn it—if she and her sister had transmigrated together, she would never have let her die.
“…Your time-space is different from ours. Transmigrators are scattered by turbulence and arrive at different points in time. For example, Alena’s era is different from yours, but she transmigrated to a similar node.”
So that was it. All because of that damned temporal turbulence.
“But you are different. You were appointed by the gods to this time node.”
“Appointed… why would the gods do that?”
Chloe wanted to press further, but Una’s shout interrupted their conversation.
“What are you discussing? I heard the word ‘gods’!”
Una rushed over to Chloe excitedly, rattling off verses from this world’s Bible.
“How unromantic! In such a lovely setting, you’re talking about these things?”
Anna popped out from the grass in the distance, clearly having been eavesdropping with Una.
“Hey, don’t eavesdrop!”
Chloe put on an angry expression.
“I thought you two were about to kiss.”
Anna spread her hands, wearing a look of disappointment.
“K-k-k-k-kiss?”
Una’s face turned red as a persimmon.
“Isn’t that something only men and women do?”
“Girls can do it too.”
Anna reached out both hands toward Una, making her step back repeatedly.
“Stay away, eek!”
Watching Una get caught, Chloe felt a wave of satisfaction.
Never thought Una would have a natural enemy. Heh heh.
This little interlude slightly alleviated Chloe’s sadness. She let out a long breath and glanced at Alice out of the corner of her eye.
Alice remained silent, her eyes hiding countless threads of sorrow.
