Join the ServerThe next time Chloe saw Anjie and Constantine, both were battered and bruised.
From a distance, Anjie sat on a large rock, one hand winding bandages around her arm while the other toyed with a cardboard-like object.
Constantine was silent, focused solely on wiping her bloodstained sword. Neither of them noticed Chloe and the others approaching.
“What a living hell…”
Una stared wide-eyed, unable to believe the carnage before her. The ground was littered with corpses, the air thick with the stench of blood, and broken pillars testified to a fierce battle.
Even Una, who killed without blinking, made such a comment—a testament to the brutality of the fight.
Anna had already started vomiting, unable to stomach the scene.
Chloe closed her eyes, as if she could hear the tearing of flesh and the cries of agony.
Scattered black flames still flickered on the ground, consuming the pitiful corpses.
She didn’t want to kill, but if she didn’t fight back, this dark world would swallow her whole, just like these early-departed souls. That was the lesson Cliff taught her.
But Chloe didn’t want to leave so soon. She wanted to live—at least until she could reunite with her sister.
Chloe didn’t know why her sister died, only one thing: she had to find the silver dragon named Augustus, who could revive all living things, including her sister.
To that end, she just had to fulfill her duty as the Chosen One.
She would conquer the world and bring it back to unity. Anything in her path would be crushed.
Yes… as long as Anjie and Constantine were loyal to her, she would be invincible.
Whether it was Cliff or Carl, Saint Fros or Eredies, they would all be destroyed under Chloe’s conquest.
Chloe’s body trembled. This inexplicable surge of emotion pierced her chest, stimulating her nerves like fragrant poison.
Perhaps the sea of blood stirred her bloodlust. She felt what Genghis Khan and Napoleon must have felt—the wonderful sensation of decisive slaughter.
Just as Chloe was reveling in her desire for conquest, Alice gently placed a hand on her shoulder.
“What’s wrong?”
Alice’s emerald-clear eyes brought Chloe back to reality.
“I… I don’t know what’s happening to me.”
Chloe opened her eyes. Her mind felt like a ball of paste, soaked in sticky blood.
She was becoming more and more like a vampire.
“I’m so scared…”
Alice sighed, reached out, and buried Chloe in her arms.
“I will stand with you till the end. Rest assured.”
Chloe’s body trembled slightly, and she pushed Alice away.
“Elysia once said the same to Caesar.”
“But she unhesitatingly drove a dagger into Caesar’s heart.”
“I am different from her,” Alice said firmly.
“Alice X Chloe? Sounds good.”
Anna had recovered and was watching Chloe with great interest.
“Lady Aloy is mine!”
Una suddenly hugged Chloe’s arm like a sloth, refusing to let go.
The pain jolted Chloe awake, and she cried out in pain.
Hearing the scream, Anjie looked up and spotted Chloe, so she waved generously.
“Master, it’s all settled.”
“I told you not to call me master.”
Chloe slowly walked toward Anjie with the other three, while Anjie eagerly ran to Chloe. Constantine sheathed her sword and stood watching the approaching group from afar.
“Looks like no survivors.”
Alice’s face was grim, not exactly happy.
“Don’t look at me. She killed these people.”
Anjie pointed at Constantine, feigning innocence.
She wasn’t lying. Chloe bent down and saw that the bodies on the ground were relatively intact, not the work of a blade.
“I only wanted to negotiate peacefully, but they tried to cut me down,” Anjie said, lifting her injured arm with an aggrieved tone.
‘So it was self-defense…’
Chloe’s guilt eased slightly. If the other side had attacked first, then Anjie and Constantine’s actions were justifiable.
“What about the cardinal? You killed so many people and didn’t even see the cardinal?” Alice asked incredulously.
Constantine walked to Anjie’s side and said flatly, “Didn’t see him. Maybe he caught wind of something and fled early.”
“So we came all this way for nothing? And killed a lot of people?”
Alice’s tone was already angry, her voice rising. Anjie narrowed her eyes, displeased.
Chloe quickly stepped between them and apologized sincerely, “Stop arguing. It’s my fault.”
It was all Chloe’s plan. If anyone was to blame, it should be her.
She had naively thought she could force them to submit with mere strength, but that was clearly impossible.
“We’ve punished so many heretics. That’s quite a harvest!”
Una looked quite happy.
“Forget it. I didn’t come here for them anyway.”
Anjie flashed a smile and raised her hand, showing the cardboard-like object to everyone.
The object looked somewhat like a scale, but it was silver all over and had a strong metallic sheen.
“This is…”
“Augustus’s scale,” Anjie said.
Chloe almost choked. This was Augustus’s scale?
Constantine shook her head and said helplessly, “I didn’t expect it to actually exist.”
“Is this thing rare?”
Una touched the scale, frowning slightly.
“There are only seven in the world. The Senate has three, the Original Order has two, and the other two are scattered in the human world,” Anna explained.
“How do you know that?” Alice looked at Anna, puzzled.
“Every noble family in Saint Fros knows this. It’s a legend left by Lord William Sirena,” Anna said with certainty.
“William Sirena was the first Transmigrator. He used one of the scales to forge the Sirena Ring.”
Chloe raised her arm, and the Sirena Ring gleamed.
“And the last one is right here,” Alice said, looking at the scale.
“Those guys actually left behind something so important?”
“I snatched it. They were about to move this thing outside, but they ran into us.”
Anjie’s smile grew brighter, proud of her glorious deed.
“What use is this scale?”
‘Could it be that collecting seven scales can summon Augustus? But Augustus is indeed a dragon, so maybe it’s like summoning a divine dragon.’
Chloe shook her head, driving out the chaotic thoughts.
“From what I know, it’s useless.”
Alice stated bluntly.
“No, to be precise, it’s useless to the Senate, but the scale can nullify Senate magic. That’s its peculiarity,” Anjie explained.
“Oh, so that’s why the Original Order can reject Senate magic?” Chloe asked.
“Hey! How come I don’t know about this?”
Alice’s face showed indignation.
“Because I briefly served as an Original Order member.”
Anjie held the scale to her brow, and it shimmered silver under the light.
“And rather than reject, the scale can ‘restore’—it returns things that don’t belong to this world to their original state, whether it’s Senate magic or anything else.”
Anjie turned her gaze to Chloe and smiled slightly.
